The premier for Brad Pitt's F1 racing film is coming to Abu Dhabi (can you spot the capital's locations?)

It's lights out and away we go – Brad Pitt's high-octane F1 The Movie is officially making its regional premiere in Abu Dhabi on June 25, and it's a full-throttle moment for the capital.
Why? Because not only will the city be rolling out the red carpet for Hollywood royalty, it's also the place where key scenes of the movie were filmed – from high-speed drama at Yas Marina Circuit to high-stakes moments at Zayed International Airport and twofour54 Studios.
So yes, Abu Dhabi stars just as much as Pitt himself.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the film follows fictional driver Sonny Hayes – a '90s racing prodigy dubbed 'the greatest that never was' – as he attempts an adrenaline-fuelled comeback after a career-halting crash.
The production spent 29 days shooting across Abu Dhabi in December 2024, during the real-life Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, and brought together 284 local crew members and 15 interns, turbocharging the city's creative economy in the process. It also made use of Abu Dhabi Film Commission's rebate programme, which has helped draw more than 180 major productions to the region since 2013.
'This premiere marks a full-circle celebration of a major international collaboration,' said Mohamed Dobay, Acting Director General of the Creative Media Authority. 'The economic and creative impact has been incredible.'
The premiere takes place a day before the film's official Middle East release – so expect flashing cameras, fast cars, and maybe even a glimpse of Brad himself.

Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt's daughter Shiloh now goes by a new name

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's daughter, Shiloh, seems to have acquired a new moniker after dropping "Pitt" from her surname. The 19-year-old made an appearance at a fashion dinner in Los Angeles on May 29, according to People magazine. The event was hosted to celebrate a new fashion line by Isabel Marant and Net-A-Porter. Shiloh served as the choreographer for singer Luella's performance of her new single, Naive, at the event. A press release for the event referred to her by her new name, Shi Joli, marking a new chapter in her public and artistic life, the outlet reported. This comes after a legal decision in 2023 allowed Shiloh to drop "Pitt" from her last name. She filed to make the change on her 18th birthday in May 2024. Shiloh has been passionate about dance and performance for several years. Last year, choreographer Kolanie Marks shared a video of her dancing, praising her dedication. He also joked on Instagram, calling himself her "adopted uncle." Jolie and Pitt reached a divorce settlement in December 2024 after an eight-year legal battle. The former spouses share six children: Maddox Chivan, 23; Pax Thien, 21; Zahara Marley, 20; Shiloh Nouvel, 18; and twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline, 16, reported People.

Your guide to the best things to do in Abu Dhabi this June

June in Abu Dhabi is many things: hot, humid and the perfect excuse to fill your calendar with seriously cool things to do indoors (and the odd al fresco soirée if you're brave). Whether you're craving world-class concerts, A-list premieres, indie film vibes, or a festive Christmas-in-June brunch (yes, really), the capital is rolling out a lineup of unforgettable happenings this month. We're talking Hans Zimmer live at Etihad Arena, Brad Pitt's F1 film premiering where it was actually filmed and ABBA bangers booming from Mamma Mia! the musical. There's also a sleek jazz-and-chess night at the Louvre, a themed brunch with a Greek island buzz and Pete Davidson cracking jokes in his UAE debut. Oh and in case you missed it, Eid Al Adha brings a four-day holiday – perfect for a staycation, fireworks, or feasting your way around Yas Bay.
