NRI woman, father booked in cheating case
Ludhiana: Model Town Police have filed a case of cheating against a woman based in the UK and her father. The woman allegedly got a case of assault and rape filed against her husband in UK.
Later, her father took Rs 18 lakh from the man's family on the pretext of working out a settlement. However, the accused failed to withdraw the case, as promised.
The accused have been identified as London resident Harpreet Kaur and her father, Paramjit Singh of Bajra Colony. The FIR was lodged on the complaint of Dhanjeet Singh, a resident of Model Town, whose brother Satnam Singh married Harpreet Kaur.
In his police complaint dated October 29, 2024, Dhanjeet said that his brother Satnam Singh met Harpreet and married her with the approval of their respective families on July 17, 2021.
About a year after their wedding, Harpreet insisted that Satnam move to London.
Dhanjeet added that his family bore the cost of their migration. While Harpreet went to the UK on study visa, Satnam accompanied her on spouse visa. However, after a few months, Harpreet allegedly got into an extramarital affair with a man she met at her university. In an attempt to end her marriage, she allegedly filed false accusations of assault and rape against Satnam, who was arrested by UK Police.

The complainant said, "When we came to know about the case against Satnam, we approached Harpreet's father, Paramjit Singh, who demanded Rs 18 lakh in front of the village panchayat to withdraw the case. However, the accused did not withdraw the case even after receiving Rs 18 lakh. Thereafter, we lodged a police complaint."
Sub-inspector Sita Ram from Model Town police station said that the police conducted an inquiry after receiving a complaint, following which a case was filed against the duo under Section 318(4) (Cheating) of BNS.

RPF nabs six-member criminal gang in Puri planning to rob a night train
Bhubaneswar, June 29 (UNI) In a major breakthrough under 'Operation Passenger Security,' the Detective Wing of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has arrested a six-member criminal gang from the Coaching Complex in Puri. According to East Coast Railway (ECoR) sources, the gang was apprehended while allegedly planning to rob a night train operating between Puri and Khordha Road. During the search operation, the RPF recovered 23 stolen mobile phones, cash amounting to Rs 24,450, and other incriminating materials. The total value of the recovered property is estimated at Rs 7,13,450. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the accused were involved in multiple cases of mobile phone theft from passengers at railway stations and crowded passenger areas. They were also actively plotting robberies onboard trains. The arrested individuals, along with the recovered items, were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) in Puri. Inter-state criminal arrested, arms and ammunition recovered
States » East Bhubaneswar, June 29 (UNI) The Special Task Force (STF) of the Odisha Police on Sunday arrested an interstate criminal involved in the illegal firearms trade and recovered arms, ammunition, and cash from his possession. According to STF sources, based on intelligence input, a team of STF officers intercepted one Dillip Sah from Samastipur district in Bihar near the PWD Inspection Bungalow at Saradeipur, under the jurisdiction of Balianta Police Station in Bhubaneswar Urban Police District. During the search operation, STF officials recovered three country-made 7 mm automatic pistols with magazines, one 9 mm pistol with magazine, seven live rounds of country-made ammunition, a mobile phone, and some cash from Sah's possession. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) read with Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act. 658 dumping spots under watch as cleanliness drive begins tomorrow
1 2 Patna: Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to launch an intensive 15-day sanitation campaign, Swachhata Pakhwada (Cleanliness Fortnight), from July 1. The initiative is aimed at promoting hygiene, raising public awareness and improving Patna's ranking in the Centre's Swachh Survekshan 2025-26. As part of the campaign, sanitation workers will clean all 658 garbage vulnerable points (GVPs) that were successfully cleared. In addition, special teams will monitor high-traffic areas to prevent littering and illegal dumping while awareness sessions will be held in residential localities to educate citizens on proper waste disposal. Municipal commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar said the drive would cover all 75 wards. "During this period, various activities will be conducted by sanitation workers at the freed GVP sites. Civic body officials will administer a cleanliness pledge to residents. Names of 'Sadak Shatru' — people caught littering or dumping waste — will be recorded and blacklisted. Offenders will be fined between Rs 500 and Rs 5,000," he said.
