A new theory has emerged over why a dead woman was found with 26 iPhones glued to her body.
Brazilian investigators were stunned to find the dead woman, 20, with dozens of mobile phones stuck to her body. She died on July 29 after she became ill on a bus which stopped at a restaurant in the city of Guarupuava in the central region of Paraná.
She suffered a cardiac arrest before a resuscitation was attempted for 45 minutes. Following her death, investigators found packages stuck to her body, along with mobile phones and drinks that were hidden in her luggage. It comes after news a nursery teacher drowned her partner's four-year-old daughter in sickening attack.
A new theory has now emerged suggesting the woman had been smuggling items before her death. Investigators said the items found on her body reinforced the hypothesis of illegal trafficking.
The woman's body was sent to the Forensic Medical Institute with the seized items being taken to the headquarters of the federal police, which is now investigating the case. Reports following her death said the woman displayed symptoms that were consistent with a post-seizure and that she had suffered respiratory distress.
Her heart then stopped and she stopped breathing. Sniffer dogs found no drugs on her person and experts for the Civil Police were called to investigate. "The Paraná Civil Police are investigating the case and awaiting the conclusion of forensic reports to clarify the cause of death," police said according to Brazilian news outlet Globo.
"According to preliminary information, the woman, who was alone, was traveling from Foz do Iguaçu to São Paulo. The 26 cell phones that were glued to her body were seized and sent to the Federal Revenue Service," police said according to Brazilian news outlet Globo."
The identity of the woman has not been released by authorities. An investigation remains ongoing.
It comes after Brazilian journalist Clara Nery suffered a shocking incident as she prepared to report live on camera. The TV correspondent for the Band network, Clara was mugged on a pavement in Botafogo, in southern Rio de Janeiro.
In the shocking clip, Clara could be seen typing intently on her phone in the run up to the live broadcast, as a man on a motorbike appears in the background and slowly closes in on the reporter. While driving past Clara, the assailant could be seen reaching out and swiping the journalist's phone from her hand.
The footage then showed Clara screaming in shock and swearing before she lunged to get her phone. She later said: 'I had my back turned when this man rode by on a motorcycle on the sidewalk and tried to take my phone. In the video, you can see the moment he puts his hand on my phone and takes it from me.
'Luckily, and despite his lack of skill, I managed to retrieve the phone. But we already have the security camera footage, the camera that managed to focus on his face.'

The mourners were returning back from a service in the southwest of the country when it overturned and plunged into a ditch on Friday evening. The bus was travelling from the western town of Kakamega to the city of Kisumu, where the accident happened. There have been several people injured as well as the confirmed 25 that have died. The driver lost control of the bus as it approached a roundabout at high speed and plunged into a ditch, according to Peter Maina, a regional traffic enforcement officer for the province of Nyanza, where Kisumu is located. He said there was a girl, aged 10, among the victims as well as 10 men and 10 women but that figure has now risen. Mother who couldn't swim makes ultimate sacrifice for daughter, 9, after she fell into lake
A mother-of-four who could not swim died while trying to save her nine-year-old daughter from drowning, according to her family. Maria Elvia, 44, jumped into a lake after her daughter Clara slipped off a wet rock and fell in during a family hike at Stone Mountain Park in Atlanta, Georgia, on Saturday, police said. '[The girl] took her shoes off and then slipped into the water, and it's certainly deep there,' said John Bankhead with the Stone Mountain Police Department. 'The mother did what mothers would naturally do and jumped in after her.' The girl's brother, Elvis, then also jumped into the water and was able to pull his sister out. She was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive, as reported by Atlanta News First. The brother and Elvia's husband also tried to save her but were not able to pull her above the water. Elvia was not pulled out until a park police officer was called to the scene. She was under water for at least four minutes, per officials. Officers performed CPR before she was taken to the hospital, where she was put in the Intensive Care Unit before she died three days later. 'Maria Elvia was a devoted mother and wife who always put her family first,' a GoFundMe page for Elvia's family said. 'She cared deeply for her children and husband, and her final act was one of selfless love and courage.' The GoFundMe has raised $15,000 of its $20,000 goal as of Friday afternoon. It was created by Elvia's adult daughter Yvonne, who said the donations will be used to cover her mother's ICU costs and send her body back to her home country, as was her wish. Police said the incident remains under investigation. Stone Mountain Park offers visitors various activities including hiking and camping. The mother's drowning comes after police found a man's badly burned remains in the same park back in May. The discovery prompted an investigation and forced the park to shut down for hours. Police said at the time the body was under an overhang and somebody had piled up rocks in front of the overhang to make it very private. Days later, however, the parents of the man provided a note to police that confirmed he died by suicide. 'The note was very specific about the method and location of the planned suicide which was consistent with the death scene,' said the Stone Mountain Park Department of Public Safety.
