Two youths fall into lake in Pavagadh, one drowns
Four friends from Katkuva village in Bodeli taluka of Chhota Udepur district went to the Mahakali temple on Pavagadh hill. After offering prayers, they decided to visit Vadatalav, a popular spot near the hill, while returning to their village.
One of the four, Vipul Rathwa, decided to enter the pond for a dip. However, he started drowning, and upon seeing him, his friend Jignesh Rathwa entered to save him. Jignesh was unable to rescue Vipul and began to drown.
Jignesh, however, managed to reach a mound in the pond and save himself. Bystanders called the fire brigade from Halol and the police. Personnel from the fire brigade brought out Jignesh safely. After an extensive search, Vipul's body was also fished out.
The relatives of the deceased were informed about the incident and reached Pavagadh. An autopsy was performed on the body at the Halol referral hospital.

The robbers, numbering 5-6, stormed the bank around 9:15 am, making off with approximately 10 kg of gold and Rs 6 lakh in cash. They escaped with gold and cash after holding employees at gunpoint. The robbers, who arrived on motorcycles, stormed into the bank around 9:15 am—just as it opened—and fled within 20–25 minutes. According to sources, they decamped with nearly 10 kg of gold and around Rs 6 lakh in cash, though police have not confirmed the exact figures. CSP Sihora, Aditya Singhania, told TOI: 'A probe is being carried out, and CCTV cameras are being scanned. The exact amount of gold or cash that was robbed is not clear yet.' The gang allegedly forced bank staff to hand over valuables while brandishing firearms. No injuries were reported. Police have launched a manhunt and alerted neighbouring districts. Investigators are also examining whether the robbers had prior knowledge of the bank's operations and security arrangements. UP horror: Woman kills son for 'repeated sexual assault'; arrested
Representative Image BIJNOR: A 56-year-old woman in Bijnor was arrested for allegedly killing her 32-year-old son by slitting his throat, police said on Sunday. Police said that the woman claimed she was 'sexually assaulted' repeatedly by her addict son. During interrogation, the woman confessed that on Aug 7, 2025, her son returned home around 11 pm in an inebriated state while her husband was asleep in the courtyard and sexually assaulted her, said police. In a fit of rage, she stabbed him several times, resulting in his death on the spot. After the attack, the woman tried to put the blame on an unknown person. She told her family an hour later that someone had killed her son, and his body was subsequently found in a cot. However, there were inconsistencies in the woman's murder. During sustained questioning, she confessed to have committed the crime, and was arrested subsequently, said police. The deceased's father initially lodged a complaint on Aug 8 at Mandawali police station, reporting that an unknown individual had murdered his son with a sharp weapon. An FIR under BNS section 103(1) (murder) was filed against unidentified persons. SP (city) Sanjeev Vajpayee said, "During interrogation, the woman said she hid the assaults from her family out of fear of humiliation." Tirumala police step up vigil to check chain snatchers
1 2 Tirupati : Tirumala police have stepped up vigil on the movement of suspects and interstate gangs following the recent arrest of a gang of chain snatchers from Maharashtra operating in the guise of devotees in the hill town. The sacred abode of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala, which attracts approximately 60,000-70,000 devotees during weekdays and close to 1 lakh pilgrims from across the globe during the weekends and festive occasions, is one of the major pilgrimage hotspots in the country. With the temple open almost round the clock and jostling with pilgrims day-in and day-out, local petty criminals and gangs occasionally turn up on the hill town to try their luck and decamp with the valuables of the visiting devotees. While the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams in coordination with the Tirumala police have been effectively dealing with the petty thefts, pickpockets and other similar offences with the help of 24/7 surveillance through the centralised command control centre, the manner in which a six member chain snatchers gang from Maharashtra operated at Tirumala in the disguise of devotees, has come as a surprise for the Tirumala police. According to Tirumala I town CI Vijay Kumar, Arjun Lakshman Masalkar (24), Bhagwan Bapurao Gaikwad (42), Vikas Vijay Yadav (27), Ganesh Sunil Gaikwad (30), Akash Baban Gaikwad (31) and Ravi Janardhan Jadhav (38), belonging to different parts of Maharashtra, were found to be frequently travelling to Tirumala in the disguise as devotees and resorting to acts of chain snatching at high pilgrim congregation points on the hill town. "This gang targeted a lonely woman devotee from Hyderabad near Pilgrim amenities complex-3 at Tirumala in June this year and decamped with her gold chain. A month later on July 26th, the same gang used a cutter to cut the chain from the neck of a woman devotee from Krishnagiri near the silver gate entrance inside the Tirumala temple," the CI stated. After receiving complaints from the two woman devotees, the Tirumala police meticulously analysed all available CCTV footage and apprehended all the six accused near the Outer Ring Road at Tirumala in the first week of August. Police recovered approximately 87 grams of gold chains worth approximately Rs.8 lakh from the possession of the accused. The SUV used by the gang to frequent to Tirumala from Maharashtra was also seized by the police. According to Tirumala I town CI, the Maharashtrian gang had a prolonged criminal history and were involved in multiple chain snatching and rioting incidents back in Maharashtra and in other states. With the Maharashtrian gang now behind the bars, the Tirumala police who have stepped up vigil on the hill town, have appealed to the devotees visiting the hill town for a pilgrimage to be extremely cautious especially when they are at high pilgrim congregation points at Tirumala.
