UP horror: Woman kills son for 'repeated sexual assault'; arrested
BIJNOR: A 56-year-old woman in Bijnor was arrested for allegedly killing her 32-year-old son by slitting his throat, police said on Sunday. Police said that the woman claimed she was 'sexually assaulted' repeatedly by her addict son.
During interrogation, the woman confessed that on Aug 7, 2025, her son returned home around 11 pm in an inebriated state while her husband was asleep in the courtyard and sexually assaulted her, said police. In a fit of rage, she stabbed him several times, resulting in his death on the spot.
After the attack, the woman tried to put the blame on an unknown person. She told her family an hour later that someone had killed her son, and his body was subsequently found in a cot.
However, there were inconsistencies in the woman's murder. During sustained questioning, she confessed to have committed the crime, and was arrested subsequently, said police.
The deceased's father initially lodged a complaint on Aug 8 at Mandawali police station, reporting that an unknown individual had murdered his son with a sharp weapon.
An FIR under BNS section 103(1) (murder) was filed against unidentified persons. SP (city) Sanjeev Vajpayee said, "During interrogation, the woman said she hid the assaults from her family out of fear of humiliation."

Visakhapatnam: The govt has taken a significant step towards curbing drug abuse in the state by identifying 850 hotspots across the region. The Eagle teams, tasked with tackling drug-related issues, have conducted a thorough analysis to pinpoint locations where narcotics and alcohol are being sold and consumed. The identified hotspots are spread across various cities and towns in the state, including Vizag and Vijayawada. According to Eagle chief Ake Ravi Krishna, youngsters are often using isolated areas, dilapidated buildings, and small establishments to sell and consume drugs. The Eagle teams are working to identify weed users and new hotspots to curtail the consumption of the weed among youth," he added. The state govt has emphasized the need for stringent measures to tackle drug-related issues. Under the NDPS Act, cultivation, selling, buying, and consumption of cannabis are illegal and punishable. The govt is determined to curb drug abuse among youth and is taking all necessary steps to achieve this goa, said a senior officer. HC upholds life imprisonment of 6 men convicted of double murder
Cuttack: The Orissa high court on Monday upheld the life imprisonment of six men convicted for the killings of Sankarsan Sethy and his brother-in-law Babuli Sethy in 1996 over a loan dispute of Rs 1,000 in Kendrapara district. A division bench of Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo and Justice Chittaranjan Dash dismissed the criminal appeals filed by the convicts against the 1998 trial court verdict, observing that the prosecution had successfully proved its case through credible witness accounts and corroborating medical evidence. The incident took place on June 19, 1996, at Indupur village under Kendrapada police station limits. According to the prosecution, the victims were attacked in broad daylight on a village road using deadly weapons — including a crowbar, spear and bhujali (a type of dagger) — following a quarrel over non-repayment of a loan of Rs 1,000 allegedly given by Sankarsan. Both men succumbed to their injuries at the district headquarters hospital in Kendrapara. The additional sessions judge, Kendrapada, had on Sept 22, 1998, convicted nine persons and sentenced them to life imprisonment. The convicts had challenged the verdict in the high court the same year. However, during the pendency of the appeals, three of them died and the proceedings against them were abated last year. "We are of the humble view that the learned trial court has rightly found the appellants guilty," the bench said, confirming the convictions and life sentences of Chandi Sethy, Karunakar Sethy, Bulu Sethy, Basanta Sethy, Premananda Sethy and Suratha Sethy under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. All six convicts were out on bail since March 18, 2010. The high court has now cancelled their bail and surety bonds and directed them to surrender before the trial court within 15 days. "In case of failure to surrender, the learned trial court shall take appropriate steps for their arrest and send them to judicial custody," the HC ordered. Court fines man for allowing minor son to ride two-wheeler
Mysuru: A court in Periyapatna fined a man for allowing his minor son to ride a two-wheeler on a public road. An officer of Bylakuppe police station confirmed that Piriyapatna senior civil judge and JMFC court fined a man Rs 25,000 for giving his two-wheeler to his 17-year-old son to ride on a public road. Police booked a case four months earlier after the minor boy was allegedly found riding the vehicle by a police team during a vehicle inspection in the town. A case was filed against the boy's parents for the traffic violation. After a hearing, the judge imposed a fine on Monday. Underage driving is a violation and offence under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Amendment Act-2019 which attracts a fine of Rs 25,000.
