A 17-year-old youth allegedly became violent towards medical staff and security at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Friday morning.
Police say the youth was transported to the hospital for medical care, but upon arrival began to pull the fire alarm, make threats to harm hospital staff and assaulted nurses providing medical treatment.
The youth allegedly assaulted responding officers and continued uttering threats.
Police have requested a warrant for arrest and charged the youth with:
Three counts assault a peace officer
Two counts of assault
Uttering threats - cause death or bodily harm
False alarm of fire.
A statement from St. Thomas police said, 'This incident highlights the increasing violence faced by emergency service workers, including paramedics, hospital staff, security, firefighters and police when responding to individuals in medical or mental health crisis."
The statement went on to say that protecting those who offer care to others remains a priority for the police service.

In a news release Saturday afternoon, OPP said the crash occurred at approximately 3:20 a.m. Fatalities confirmed as closure clarified By 4:57 a.m., the OPP confirmed the collision had turned fatal. 'Highway 11 is closed in both directions from Driftwood at the intersection of Highway 655 till Clear Lake Road in Kapuskasing due to a fatal multi-vehicle collision,' the update read. Authorities reiterated that OPP and emergency crews were on scene and urged drivers to avoid the area. The closure was later extended as police provided further details at 5:20 a.m., revealing that the crash involved an ATV and a transport truck. The affected stretch now spans from Labelle Street in Hearst to Western Avenue in Cochrane. 'As a result of the incident, four individuals were pronounced deceased at the scene,' police said in the news release. Police urge caution, alternate routes In all updates, the OPP emphasized the need for motorists to plan alternate routes. 'Avoid the area, expect lengthy delays and plan alternate routes,' police said on social media. Two people have been seriously injured after three transport trucks collided on Highway 401 just west of the Morrisburg, Ont., exit, police say. The crash happened in the eastbound lanes at around 10:20 a.m. Friday, according to a news release Saturday from Ontario Provincial Police. Two people in the trucks suffered serious injuries, with one taken to an Ottawa trauma centre, an OPP spokesperson said. Police did not tell CBC the ages or genders of the victims.
