Panaji:
Former civil aviation minister Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, a seasoned TDP leader, was sworn in as the 22nd governor of Goa on Saturday. Raju said that he would work with the people of the state to make India second to none in the world.
Raju was administered the oath of office by the Bombay high court chief justice Alok Aradhe at a ceremony at Raj Bhavan. The ceremony was attended by chief minister Pramod Sawant, leader of opposition Yuri Alemao, Union minister of state Shripad Naik, Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, cabinet ministers, MLAs, and others.
After the swearing-in ceremony, Raju said, 'I am delighted to be in Goa. I am delighted to swear by the Constitution of India to serve the people of the country and Goans in particular.
We all work as a team. I am delighted to be associated with Goans. I don't know the local language, though, but this is my first assignment in the state.'
Raju added, 'In political structure, I was a seven-time legislator of Andhra Pradesh before it was bifurcated into two states. I had a short stint in Parliament and in and out as minister in govt and in opposition.'
He also said, 'I got enriched particularly with this experience, and I hope to get further enriched by the experiences of the lovely people.

I am looking forward to working for you, working with you rather, 'for you' is mind terminology, because if people don't work with govt, our democracy will be in peril, and we don't want that kind of situation. We want everyone to work unitedly. When we unite, we are second to none in the world.
My appeal to people is to let us work and make India second to none in the world.'
Raju replaced P S Sreedharan Pillai, who held the gubernatorial position since July 2021. Raju, 74, belongs to the royal Pusapati family of Vizianagaram. He served as civil aviation minister from May 27, 2014 to March 10, 2018 under PM Narendra Modi.
Sawant congratulated the new governor and said that his vast experience in administration would help him in running the state. 'He will guide us in running the administration,' he said.

State govt. yet to submit proposal for IIMPs, says Union Minister

The Kerala government has not yet submitted the proposal for the Integrated Island Management Plans (IIMPs) as per the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Notification 2019, according to Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh. He was replying to Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden's question in the Lok Sabha on whether the Centre proposed to implement IIMPs to meet the unique environmental and infrastructure needs of island communities in Ernakulam, thus enhancing their quality of life and safeguarding their ecosystem. Mr. Singh said that the Ministry had approved the Coastal Zone Management Plans (CZMPs) for all coastal districts, including Ernakulam, through a letter dated October 16, 2024. IIMPs are prepared as per the CRZ Notification 2019 and are approved based on the proposal received from the State government. The Government of Kerala is yet to submit the IIMP proposal, he said. The MP had asked whether the government had plans to consider reassessing 13 excluded panchayats in Ernakulam for CRZ-II classification, given their urban-like characteristics and the essential development needs of their residents. It included Alangad, Chendamangalam, Chittattukara, Ezhikkara, Kadungalloor, Karumaloor, Kottuvally, Kunnukara, Puthenvelikkara, Udayamperoor, Vadakkekkara, Kuzhuppilly, and Pallippuram. The Minister said that the CZMP of Kerala was approved by the Ministry through a letter dated October 16, 2024, based on the recommendation of the technical scrutiny committee meeting held on March 1, 2024, and the recommendations of the National Coastal Zone Management Authority at its 47th meeting held on September 23, 2024. Thereafter, the Ministry has not received any further proposal to date for the inclusion of remaining panchayats in Category-II of the CRZ classification, he said.

Jagan accuses Andhra govt of vendetta politics, governance failure

Amaravati, July 29 (PTI) YSRCP chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday accused the TDP-led government in Andhra Pradesh of engaging in 'vendetta politics", failure in governance and neglecting public welfare. Addressing the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) meeting of YSRCP, the former CM alleged that the state government is fabricating false cases to instill fear among its opponents, instead of focusing on implementing promised welfare schemes. 'Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu failed to implement poll promises and neglected all sections of society and is showing vindictive attitude towards political opponents," said Jagan Mohan Reddy in a release. Referring to the recent arrests of several senior YSRCP leaders, Jagan asserted that this is proof of 'vindictive politics". The YSRCP supremo further alleged that police have become 'collection agents", facilitating mafia-style operations in liquor, sand, rice and gambling, leading to paralysis of public institutions. The former CM also claimed that several key initiatives, including Nadu-Nedu works and Aarogyasri scheme, have been halted. According to Jagan, Naidu spent 52 per cent of YSRCP's five-year borrowings in just 14 months, despite stagnating state revenue and a mere three per cent growth rate. He announced the launch of a YSRCP app for citizens to report harassment, promising accountability and justice and called for strengthening of booth-level structure. Operation Sindoor debate: 'Why is he scared?' Congress revives Trump charge moments after PM Modi junks it

NEW DELHI: Less than half an hour after Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that "no global leader interfered in Operation Sindoor ," the Congress launched a fresh attack, accusing him of being afraid to confront US President Donald Trump . Congress MP KC Venugopal asked bluntly, 'We are asking very clearly whether Trump's claim is bogus or not, whether he is telling truth or not. No answer... Why is he scared about talking about Trump?' He accused the Prime Minister of hiding behind Pakistan rhetoric instead of addressing serious questions about India's sovereignty and military decision-making. 'When genuine questions are asked by the opposition, he hides behind the Pakistan story,' Venugopal said. Leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi echoed this line, claiming the Prime Minister 'never said it clearly that Trump was lying' and accused him of failing to name China despite its alleged support to Pakistan. 'The whole nation knows that China helped Pakistan in every way, but the Prime Minister and Defence Minister never named China anywhere in their speeches,' Gandhi said. Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera added a poetic jab: 'Trump slapped (him), but he's upset with Nehru. Earlier, Gandhi had demanded a clear rebuttal to Trump's repeated assertion that he mediated a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. 'If Modi ji has even 50 per cent of the courage that Indira Gandhi had, then clearly he must say in Parliament Donald Trump is lying,' Gandhi said. 'That's surrender. Immediate surrender in 30 minutes,' he said, citing Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's own words in the House. PM Modi lashes out at Congress During his address in the Lok Sabha, PM Modi on Tuesday told the Lok Sabha that "no global leader had asked India to halt Operation Sindoor" "India received global support, but the Congress could not support our soldiers' valour," he said, criticising the opposition during the debate on the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor. "No country stopped India from defending itself against terrorism—only three countries backed Pakistan at the UN." PM Modi also dismissed questions raised over US President Donald Trump's announcement of a ceasefire. He clarified that on the night of May 9, 'US Vice President (JD Vance) tried to reach out to me 3–4 times, but I was busy with meetings with the armed forces.' When he finally returned the call, Vance warned of a possible Pakistani attack. 'I told him that if Pakistan attacks India, our response would be much bigger—we will respond to bullets with cannons. ' He declared that Pakistani airbases hit during the operation were "still in ICU" and said the masterminds of the April 22 attack had 'sleepless nights.' Emphasising India's strength, Modi said, 'We destroyed terror sites deep inside Pakistan within 22 minutes… drones and missiles made in India exposed Pakistani arms.' He accused Congress of echoing Pakistani propaganda and giving the enemy a 'clean chit.'
