Police cripple Klang Valley drug network in Sungai Buloh and Hulu Selangor
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismantled a drug distribution network involving cannabis in Sungai Buloh and Hulu Selangor with the arrest of three local men aged between 28 and 42. Sungai Buloh district police chief Superintendent Mohd Hafiz Muhammad Nor said a total of 1,006.5g of cannabis was seized during the operation on June 19. "In addition to the cannabis, an estimated 40.93g of heroin, 57.56g of Yaba pills, 3.32g of ecstasy pills, and 0.82g of methamphetamine were also seized during the operation conducted by the Sungai Buloh Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division. "Intelligence gathered and interrogation conducted on one of the suspects provided additional information, which was shared with other district police departments across Selangor. This led to more arrests and significantly disrupted the cannabis distribution network," he said in a statement. Hafiz said preliminary investigations revealed the network's modus operandi was to order cannabis from a neighbouring country, with the drugs then delivered via local courier services before being distributed in the Klang Valley. The estimated market value of the seized drugs is between RM30,000 and RM40,000. All three suspects have been remanded for between five and seven days from June 20 to 26 under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment with whipping upon conviction. Hafiz urged members of the public with information on criminal activities, particularly involving drugs, to come forward and assist police efforts to eradicate drug distribution and abuse within the jurisdiction of the Sungai Buloh District Police Headquarters.
