Woman killed by 2nd hubby, aides
Lucknow: Mohanlalganj police cracked the murder of Muskan Bano (30), who was stabbed to death by her second husband and his associates, allegedly because she wanted to have a child with him.
Accused Mohd Asif (35), a tailor, married Muskan last year. She had a daughter from a previous marriage and Asif had children from his earlier relationship. "Asif was unwilling to have a child with Muskan. He also suspected her fidelity, which pushed him to plan her murder," said additional deputy commissioner of police (south) Amit Kumawat. Asif hired his nephew Manna alias Aftab (18), a furniture worker, for Rs 1 lakh to eliminate Muskan.
Manna also roped in a friend (17) to help him execute the murder.
On May 20, Asif lured Muskan into accompanying him to Unnao under pretext of medical treatment. After spending the day there, the trio purchased a knife and waited for nightfall. Around 9:30 pm near Udvat Kheda, when the couple was returning on a motorcycle, the accused duo on a separate bike deliberately caused the bike to topple. All three then stabbed Muskan to death.

"Asif tied the body to himself using a dupatta, mounted the motorcycle pretending she was alive and drove about a kilometre before dumping the body near Mohanlalganj canal," said ACP Mohanlalganj Rajneesh Verma.
Later, Asif and Manna were arrested, while the minor is in police custody. The knife, blood-stained clothes, broken mobiles and two motorcycles used in the crime have been recovered.

Encroachments removed from Sindhi Camp bus stand
Jaipur: Anti-encroachment committee of JMC-Heritage Wednesday conducted a drive to remove encroachments from Sindhi Camp bus stand, the busiest bus terminal in the city. More than two dozen illegal carts were confiscated, and encroachments made on the road outside shops were removed, officials said. Manoj Mudgal, chairperson of the anti-encroachment committee, said, "Many people had encroached upon the bus stand, due to which operation of buses was disturbed and passengers and drivers were facing problems. We first tried to explain to local traders to remove the encroachments, but, despite our efforts, the encroachments were not cleared. Action was finally taken by the civic body today." Mudgal added that main roads and intersections in the Walled City will also be made encroachment-free. "This will not only make the traffic system in Jaipur smooth, but domestic and foreign tourists visiting will be able to see the beauty of the Pink City in a better way," he said. Meanwhile, JMC-Greater removed temporary encroachments from Pankaj Singhvi Marg, Fortis Hospital, JLN Marg, near Jawahar Circle Police Station, Nandpuri Underpass, Sanganer Bazaar, City Bus Stand, Malpura Gate, and surrounding areas on Wednesday. Two canters of goods were seized and sent to the warehouse, and a carrying charge of Rs 10,000 was collected on the spot from the encroachers, officials said.

Court rejects plea to extend Taware's police custody in kidney transplant case
Pune: A court on Wednesday rejected the prosecution's plea to extend by seven days the police remand of Dr Ajay Taware, suspended head of Sassoon General Hospital's forensic science department, in connection with the kidney transplant case. He was arrested in relation to the 10 kidney swap transplants that were cleared by the regional authorisation committee for organ transplant, which he headed in 2022. Assistant public prosecutor Nitin Adagale told the court that the investigating officer, ACP (crime) Ganesh Ingale, in the remand report cited several reasons for Taware's questioning as the investigations had made sufficient progress. Probe found discrepancies in the information provided by the donors and recipients as well as in the video recordings of their interviews conducted before the authorisation committee, Adagale said. Police aimed to determine if Taware received any pecuniary benefits from the crime, he said. Judicial magistrate first class S R Badve, in his order, said, "The grounds mentioned in the remand report are not well-founded and justified with respect to the accused. Custodial interrogation of the accused is not necessary." The court remanded Taware in magisterial custody till June 17. ACP Ingale said, "Even though the court has ordered magisterial custody of Taware and sent him to jail, police, as per new provisions of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, reserve the right to seek his police remand whenever required for the purpose of investigations in the future." Taware's lawyers, Sudhir Shah and Abhishek Bade, said they will decide whether to file a bail application after consulting their client. On May 28, police secured Taware's custody from Yerawada jail, where he had been lodged since his arrest on May 27, 2024, in the blood sample swap case linked to the Porsche Taycan car crash on May 19 last year. Police formally arrested him in the 2022 kidney swap transplant case based on a state health department inquiry panel's report that year, which indicted him of misusing his official position to clear the transplant proposal based on bogus persons and forged documents. Taware headed the regional authorisation committee as well as Sassoon authority committee and was medical superintendent of the hospital at the time when the transplant process took place and was completed at Ruby Hall Clinic.
