Body found in search for missing teen who disappeared on holiday
A body has been recovered in the search for a 16-year-old boy who vanished while on holiday and visiting a beach in North Wales.
The teenager, named Athrun, disappeared on Saturday afternoon during a visit to West Shore Beach in Llandudno, Conwy. Originally from South Gloucestershire, he had been last seen at around 2pm wearing only swimming shorts, reports the Mirror.
A sighting of a body in the same area was reported on Tuesday evening, triggering a major multi-agency search which concluded tonight when a body was recovered around 6.20pm.
North Wales Police said formal identification is yet to take place, but confirmed Athrun's family have been informed and are receiving support from officers.
The large-scale search effort included police helicopters, coastguard crews, divers from the police underwater search unit, and volunteers from the local community.
Villagers rallied to help, and a nearby Baptist church opened its doors to provide refreshments for emergency workers who searched "through the night" after the initial sighting earlier in the week.

In a statement released on Wednesday night, North Wales Police said: "A body has been recovered this evening during searches for missing 16-year-old Athrun.
"Multi-agency searches resumed this evening, Wednesday May 14th, in the West Shore area of Llandudno following sighting of a body on Tuesday evening.
"Searches conducted by the police underwater search team, NPAS and coastguard resulted in a body being recovered today at 6.20pm.
"Formal identification is yet to take place, but Athrun's family have been informed and are being supported by officers. The death is not being treated as suspicious, and the coroner has been informed."
Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan added: 'My deepest condolences remain with Athrun's family, and I would ask for their privacy to be respected at this incredibly sad and difficult time.
'This is not the outcome anyone hoped for, and I would once again like to thank partner agencies and members of the public for their overwhelming support and tireless assistance with the searches over the last five days.'

It also follows a huge crackdown on fentanyl trafficking launched by President Claudia Sheinbaum's administration. Unlike states ravaged by cartel violence, Puebla and Tlaxcala, just over 100km from Mexico City, are seen as relatively peaceful. Tlaxcala accounts for just 0.5% of the 14,769 intentional homicides recorded nationwide between January and July, while Puebla makes up 3.4%. But both states have problems with gangs moving drugs, people and stolen fuel due to their central location. In 2022, Puebla authorities found 116 migrants crammed inside a truck. Elsewhere, in June this year, 20 men were found dead with gunshot wounds in cartel-ravaged Sinaloa, five of them decapitated. And in May, a gun attack at a Catholic festival in Guanajuato left seven young people dead. Meanwhile, in May, a shooting at a Catholic Church festival in the central state of Guanajuato resulted in the deaths of seven Mexican youths. Scots pensioner dies on cruise ship docked in Italian city
The 83-year-old was allegedly discovered lifeless in the water on Tuesday afternoon. A Scots OAP has died on board a cruise ship after being found unresponsive in a swimming pool while it was docked in Naples. The 83-year-old, who has not yet been named, was discovered in the pool of the Marella Voyager yesterday afternoon. Holidaymakers and crew desperately tried to save him but he could not be revived. Italian police boarded the vessel, placing it under temporary seizure as they carried out inquiries. The ship - which is operatured by TUI - was due to leave port at 5pm local time but was held back for several hours. Officers later ruled out any foul play, confirming the pensioner had taken ill in the water. The liner was eventually cleared to resume its journey around the Med. The Marella Voyager had set sail from Majorca on August 16 and had already visited Sardinia before arriving in Naples. It is now continuing on to Rome, Corsica, Spain and back to Majorca. Man accused of killing Irish journalist Lyra McKee took part in Republican parade in Glasgow

A man accused of the terrorist killing of Irish journalist Lyra McKee took part in a Republican parade in Scotland. Jordan Devine played a large bass drum at the march in Glasgow earlier this month. The 24-year-old was pictured taking part in a paramilitary-style parade through the city centre, with the Roberts/Mellon flute band. Devine has denied in court any involvement in the murder of Lyra, who was struck by a bullet fired at police during a riot in the Creggan area of Derry on the evening of April 18, 2019. The recent Glasgow event was held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of the internment in Ireland of IRA members. It was organised by the Irish Republican Prisoner Welfare Association (IRPWA). This is alleged to be an offshoot of Saoradh, the political wing of banned terror group the New IRA. One source said: 'The marchers don't hide in any way the fact they are supporting Republican prisoners and they have a bedrock of support in Glasgow. 'There has been a lot of activity around Celtic Park, which the club is uncomfortable with, and the recent event had a fundraising shindig at a bar near the Barras in the east end. 'It is highly unusual that a person accused of such a serious crime would be seen in such a public demonstration and this raised a few eyebrows, even with Republican supporters.' At the head of the march, a banner stating the group's support for political prisoners said: 'No change – from H block to Maghaberry' - referring to the conditions such prisoners are held in. Devine's drum bore a slogan that stated: 'We must see our present fight through to the bitter end.' Another stated: 'Onward to the Republic and the liberation of our people.' Dressed in black shirt and trousers, Devine walked among others who wore military-style black berets. Reports in Northern Ireland claim Saoradh is collecting thousands of pounds through fundraisers in Scotland, at which dissident republicans are feted as heroes. The Lyra McKee murder trial has been delayed by several adjournments. Nine men from Derry are currently on trial at Belfast Crown Court on charges arising from the riot that culminated in her murder. They all deny the charges. Three of the accused have been charged with murdering Lyra, possessing a firearm and ammunition and other linked offences, including rioting and possessing and throwing petrol bombs. The trio are Paul McIntyre, 57, Peter Cavanagh, 36, and Jordan Devine. The prosecution case is that while none of the three defendants were the gunman who fired the fatal shot, their actions at the scene 'are demonstrative of their involvement in the joint enterprise to possess and fire the weapon with the requisite intent for murder'. The court previously heard 29-year-old Lyra died from a single gunshot wound to the head. She suffered a cardiac arrest at the scene and died despite attempts at resuscitation. The trial is being heard without a jury.
