Police confirm body recovered in Llandudno is that of missing 16 year old boy

North Wales Police has confirmed that the body recovered during searches near Llandudno is that of a 16-year-old who has been missing for nearly a week. Athrun, aged 16, from South Gloucestershire, was on holiday in the Welsh town. Athrun's family have been informed and are being supported by officers. Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan said: 'Our thoughts are very much with Athrun's family, who wish to thank all agencies and members of the public for their overwhelming support with the search, and for not giving up on his recovery. 'This is not the outcome anyone hoped for, but we hope it can now provide some answers for Athrun's family. 'I continue to ask for their privacy to be respected at this incredibly difficult time.' He was last seen at around 2pm on Saturday, 10 May, on West Shore Beach in Llandudno. Multi-agency searches had been ongoing following the sighting of a body on the evening of 13 May. Searches conducted by the police underwater search team, NPAS and coastguard resulted in a body being recovered.

The body of a "vulnerable" 16-year-old boy who went missing at the weekend has been identified. Athrun, who was autistic, and believed to be wearing only blue and white patterned swim shorts and no footwear, was reported missing from West Shore Beach in Llandudno, Conwy county at about 14:00 BST on 10 an extensive sea search, North Wales Police recovered a body and it was identified as Athrun, from South Gloucestershire on Insp Trystan Bevan said: "Our thoughts are very much with Athrun's family, who wish to thank all agencies and members of the public for their overwhelming support with the search, and for not giving up on his recovery." He added: "This is not the outcome anyone hoped for, but we hope it can now provide some answers for Athrun's family."

A body has been recovered in the search for a 16-year-old boy who vanished while on holiday and visiting a beach in North Wales. The teenager, named Athrun, disappeared on Saturday afternoon during a visit to West Shore Beach in Llandudno, Conwy. Originally from South Gloucestershire, he had been last seen at around 2pm wearing only swimming shorts, reports the Mirror. ‌ A sighting of a body in the same area was reported on Tuesday evening, triggering a major multi-agency search which concluded tonight when a body was recovered around 6.20pm. ‌ North Wales Police said formal identification is yet to take place, but confirmed Athrun's family have been informed and are receiving support from officers. The large-scale search effort included police helicopters, coastguard crews, divers from the police underwater search unit, and volunteers from the local community. Villagers rallied to help, and a nearby Baptist church opened its doors to provide refreshments for emergency workers who searched "through the night" after the initial sighting earlier in the week. Search intensifies as police issue update in search for missing teen who disappeared on Welsh beach A tragic development in the search for missing 16-year-old Athrun has been announced Athrun had been missing since Saturday Police say there has been a "potential sighting" of a body in the search for 16-year-old Athrun, the young boy from Gloucestershire who went missing on a family holiday to Llandudno last weekend. After four days of extensive searches by emergency services in North Wales, police have confirmed that a body has been spotted from the air, just off the coast. No formal identification has taken place, but Athrun's family have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. ‌ A spokesperson for North Wales Police said: "Further searches have been launched this evening following a potential sighting of a body in the sea near Llandudno shortly after 7pm. ‌ "The sighting came during air searches for 16-year-old Athrun, who has been missing since Saturday May 10th. "There will continue to be an increased emergency service presence in the area throughout the evening. "Whilst work is ongoing to try and locate and recover the body, Athrun's family have been informed and are being supported by officers." Article continues below Chief Inspector Trystan Bevan said: 'Whilst I am grateful for the ongoing support and concern by the community, I would remind members of the public that this is an extremely distressing situation for the family. 'Speculation on social media is not helpful to our investigation and is not respectful towards the family members during this incredibly difficult time. 'Multi-agency searches will continue into the night following this evening's sighting and I would ask for members of the public not to gather on the beach.' ‌ The last known sighting of Athrun was on the coast of Llandudno on Saturday, May 10 at around 2pm. The teen, from Gloucestershire, was last seen wearing blue and white swimming shorts. Following his disappearance, a large-scale search operation was launched by North Wales Police, who worked alongside the RNLI, NPAS, HM Coastguard and the Llandudno community. This saw PCSOs walking the coastline speaking to any potential witnesses, to specialist divers searching the sea and helicopters searching from above.
