Former MSU golfer Ryan Brehm has rollercoaster first round at Rocket Classic
With the PGA Tour returning for their annual trip to Detroit, the seventh edition of the Rocket Classic began on Thursday at the Detroit Golf Club. Former Spartan Ryan Brehm, a 2008 Michigan State graduate, has been a mainstay on the PGA Tour, and he made another start in Detroit. The Mt. Pleasant (MI) native, Brehm is looking to get his 2025 summer off of the ground, and is looking towards his hometown PGA Tour event to do so. On Thursday, it was an up and down affair for Brehm, who ultimately finished at a 71 (-1). At one point, late in the first round, Brehm was sitting at a very comfortable -3, but back to back bogeys to finish his round left a sour taste in his mouth. While he is a few shoots off of the number to make the weekend, he is still very much in the mix for making his first cut of 2025, but is in need for a big day on Friday. He will tee off at 7:07 a.m. on the first tee, looking for a big day to make the weekend. Former Spartan James Piot fires a two-under 70 in the opening round of the Rocket Classic
On Thursday, the Rocket Classic commenced for it seventh edition at the Detroit Golf Club, bringing the PGA Tour back to Detroit. A late addition to the field, former Spartan and United States Amateur champion James Piot was added thanks to a sponsors exemption. The former Spartan and Canton (MI) native, who started his professional career with the LIV Golf Tour, returned to the PGA Tour. On Thursday, Piot had a late afternoon tee time at the Detroit Golf Club, getting his tournament underway. Despite a slow, and ultimately boring start, Piot broke through with a very exciting back nine. It all led to a final score of 70 (-2), with the former Spartan shooting 35-35 on the two nines. He finished with four birdies and two bogeys. Sitting at T87 on the standings, but is only one shot off of the placing that would be inside of the cutline, Piot is firmly in the mix to be able to make the weekend at his hometown PGA Tour event. Musk reportedly fires Tesla head of operations Omead Afshar
(KRON) — Elon Musk has reportedly fired one of his most longstanding top lieutenants at Tesla. According to a report in Forbes, Musk has ousted Omead Afshar, Tesla's head of operations in North American and Europe amid ongoing declining sales for the EV maker. Afshar, who first joined Tesla in 2011, began overseeing sales and manufacturing for Europe and North America in October of last year. Sales and demand across those two regions have seen a significant drop, in part due to the backlash against Tesla CEO Musk's political activities. AI willing to blackmail, let people die to avoid being shut down: report In a 2024 profile, the Wall Street Journal referred to Afshar as 'Musk's Fixer.' His departure from Tesla represents the biggest indication so far that a shakeup is underway at the EV maker. Tesla sales have declined in the aftermath of Musk's financial backing of the Trump campaign and his close association with the administration through the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). While Musk has since departed Washington, Tesla sales in the U.S., Europe and China are still down. Demand for the Tesla Cybertruck has apparently slowed to such a degree that Tesla reportedly plans to pause production of the vehicle over the week of July 4. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
