New Delhi [India], July 7 (ANI): Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Chandigarh Zonal Office has carried out search operations at the premises of three suspected shell companies located in Uttar Pradesh's Noida and Lucknow, the central agency said on Monday.
ED stated that raids were carried out under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.
'Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Chandigarh Zonal Office has carried out search operations on 04.07.2025 at the premises of three suspected shell companies - Kindent Business Solutions Pvt. Ltd., Rainet Technology Pvt. Ltd. and Mool Business Solutions Pvt. Ltd. located in Noida and Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. ED further stated that the management of these companies could not substantiate that the activities carried out by them are within the framework regulated by the RBI.
'It was then found that these companies were actually fronts for laundering Proceeds of Crime (POC) generated through the multi-crore QFX/YFX online forex and MLM (Multi Level Marketing) scam, which duped thousands of investors across India,' the agency added.
ED stated that based on the evidence recovered, the agency has frozen 116 accounts in several banks associated with these entities, and as per confirmation received so far from 16 bank accounts, more than Rs 103 Crore of POC has been frozen.
'Numerous digital devices, financial documents and electronic records were also seized from the premises and are currently under forensic examination to establish the complete trail of POC and persons involved in the scam. ED also conducted searches in February 2025 and had frozen several bank accounts associated with QFX, YorkerFX and botbro etc. securing 187 Crore of POC. The main masterminds Navab alias Luvish Chaudhary, Rajender Sood, Vineet Kumar and Santosh Kumar absconded to Dubai after defrauding thousands of innocent investors,' the ED said.
The agency further said that the ongoing investigation is likely to expose more such shell companies, benami assets and complex layering networks used to disguise the origin of funds defrauded from innocent investors.
It is also likely to uncover additional individuals, masterminds, operators, beneficiaries and front-end facilitators involved in orchestrating and facilitating the laundering of POC from the QFX scam, the release said. (ANI)

India's EV ambitions face rare earth supply shock amid China curbs

As India pushes to become a global electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing powerhouse, a new report by management consulting firm Primus Partners warns of a looming crisis: the country's EV success is dangerously dependent on rare-earth materials almost entirely controlled by China, ANI reports. Following Beijing's tighter export rules on rare earths, announced on April 4, magnet shipments to India are already facing delays. The report flags this as a key vulnerability that could derail India's clean mobility momentum. Titled "India's EV Surge Needs a Home-Grown Magnet Fix", the report underlines that while India holds the world's fifth-largest reserves of rare earths, it lacks critical infrastructure for oxide separation, metal refining, and sintered magnet production — areas where China holds near-total dominance. To mitigate this risk, Primus Partners recommends three urgent interventions: Scale Up Domestic Capacity India must target an annual production of 4,000 tonnes of rare-earth magnets by 2030, up from its current limited capacity. Fast-track project approvals, financial incentives, and production-linked schemes can help meet at least 25 per cent of the country's projected demand domestically. Diversify External Supply The report urges India to secure long-term supply agreements with countries such as Australia, the US, and select African nations. These partnerships could reduce dependence on Chinese imports. Additionally, India should leverage ongoing free trade negotiations to lock in favourable terms for rare-earth imports. Accelerate Recycling Infrastructure A robust Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) framework for motors and electronics, along with subsidies for recycling plants using hydrometallurgy and magnetic separation, could help recover valuable materials from end-of-life products. India's rare-earth magnet consumption stood at 1,700 tonnes in 2022 and is expected to surge nearly tenfold to 15,400 tonnes by 2032 — with market value rising from ₹1,245 crore to an estimated ₹15,700 crore. The report concludes that while diplomatic and sourcing efforts may offer short-term relief, India must develop a resilient, end-to-end domestic value chain for rare-earth magnets to truly future-proof its EV ambitions.

Indian banks' systemic deposit growth gain momentum but NIM likely to dip 30bps (YoY): Report

New Delhi [India], July 10 (ANI): The Indian banking sector is witnessing a steady pickup in deposit growth, but banks are likely to report a decline in their net interest margins (NIM) in the first quarter of FY26, according to a report by Phillip Capital. The report noted that systemic deposit growth is gaining momentum, helping improve the credit-to-deposit ratio. Based on business updates released so far, the overall credit growth stands at 0.4 per cent on a sequential basis. It stated 'banking universe will see 1 per cent yoy (-1.5 per cent qoq) growth in NII. Sector NIM will decline 10bps qoq /30bps yoy as cost of funds remains stable' The report highlighted muted growth in Net Interest Income (NII) across the banking sector due to weak credit expansion. Overall NII is projected to grow just 1 per cent year-on-year (YoY) and decline by 1.5 per cent QoQ. Sector-wide NIM is expected to decline by 10 basis points (bps) QoQ and 30bps YoY as the cost of funds stays largely stable and returns from repo-linked loans decline. However, it also noted that the private sector banks have shown stronger performance with loan growth of 0.5 per cent quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) and deposit growth of 1.3 per cent QoQ. As a result, their credit-to-deposit ratio stands at 92 per cent, reflecting a decline of 0.8 per cent QoQ. In contrast, public sector banks (PSBs) posted a modest 0.2 per cent QoQ loan growth, while their deposit levels remained flat. The credit-to-deposit ratio for PSBs remained stable sequentially at 78%. Private banks are likely to record a 1.9 per cent YoY decline and a 0.8 per cent QoQ drop in NII. Meanwhile, PSBs may witness a 0.3 per cent YoY decline and a sharper 2.4 per cent QoQ fall in NII. On the profitability front, banks are expected to report modest growth in profit after tax (PAT), supported by lower credit costs. Overall PAT is forecast to grow 3.5 per cent YoY and 0.8 per cent QoQ. Among segments, PSBs may post a 7 per cent YoY rise in PAT but a 4.1 per cent QoQ decline, while private banks could register 1.4 per cent YoY and 4.2 per cent QoQ growth. Credit costs are seen normalizing, aided by improving asset quality. The report estimated credit cost at 59bps for Q1FY26, down from 64bps in Q4FY25 but up from 52bps in Q1FY25. The report outlined that while the deposit momentum is positive, the pressure on margins and core earnings will be a key watchpoint for the banking sector in the upcoming quarterly results. (ANI)

Changur Baba, His Girlfriend Nasreen, Sent To UP ATS Custody In Conversion Racket Case

Last Updated: Jamaluddin alias Changur Baba was sent to UP ATS custody for interrogation in the religious conversion racket case. News18 Jamaluddin alias Changur Baba, who is accused of running a major religious conversion racket, was sent to the 7-day ATS police custody, officials said on Thursday. His alleged girlfriend Neetu, also known as Nasreen who allegedly played a key role in the racket, was also sent to police custody by the NIA court. The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad will have the custody of both of them from July 10 to 16, during which the ATS will grill the duo and gather information about their wider gang network operation across the country. The police will also take action against Changur Baba under the Gangster Act, which includes the seizure of his properties. The Balrampur Police are cooperating with agencies in the arrest of named and other accused individuals Earlier, the UP Police intensified their crackdown on the accused and demolished parts of his 70-room mansion in Balrampur. On Tuesday, the authorities brought down 20 rooms and a 40-foot-long hall. The operation resumed the next day. The administration has declared a 40-room section of the mansion illegal. The UP ATS arrested Baba and his alleged girlfriend from a hotel in Lucknow. The duo was staying together in Room No. 102 of Star Rooms Hotel in Vikas Nagar of the city for the last 70 days. The police probe revealed that the room was initially booked on April 16 for four days using their Aadhaar cards; however, it later became a hub for continued conversion activities. The investigation found that Neetu comes from a middle-class Sindhi family in Balrampur and studied only up to Class 7. In 2015, she went to Dubai with her husband, Naveen Ghanshyam Rohra. Reports say that during this trip, both of them converted to Islam — Neetu changed her name to Nasreen, and Naveen became Jamaluddin. Later, in 2021, Naveen's entire family also converted to Islam. They also submitted an affidavit in the Utraula Civil Court in Balrampur, declaring Changur Baba as their spiritual leader. Neetu soon became a close aide of Changur Baba and was reportedly involved in a network that focused on religious conversions. Investigators say she used to befriend poor Hindu families, especially young girls, by offering help and talking about supposed 'miracles' done by Changur Baba. She would often share how her life changed after converting and promised money or medical help to attract people. Once they agreed, she would introduce them to Changur Baba and help with the conversion process. view comments First Published: July 10, 2025, 07:12 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
