Super Micro Computer (SMCI) Teams Up with Ericsson to Power Edge AI with 5G Connectivity

Yahooa day ago

Super Micro Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ:) is one of the 10 AI Stocks on Wall Street's Radar. On Tuesday, June 10th, Super Micro Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ:SMCI) and Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) announced their intent to enter into a strategic collaboration that aims to accelerate Edge AI deployment.
The two parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding to explore the integration of Ericsson Enterprise Wireless Solutions' industry-leading 5G connectivity with Supermicro's industry-leading Edge AI platforms, creating a commercial bundle that will deliver advanced Edge AI capabilities and simplify procurement and deployment.
The need for such a collaboration rose out of demand for Edge AI solutions deploying pre-trained AI models, generative AI, and agentic AI to the network edge, outside the data center, for local processing. Since many of these AI applications require low-latency response times, combining Supermicro's and Ericsson's technology will help businesses deploy an integrated Edge AI infrastructure with wireless connectivity.

'Supermicro delivers cutting-edge solutions that allow enterprises to harness the power of AI at the edge. Our compute platforms combined with Ericsson's 5G technology will allow enterprises and public sector organizations to extend the reach of their AI applications where wired technologies are not a viable option, such as smart intersections, industrial manufacturing, and remote infrastructure.' -Mory Lin, Vice President, IoT/Embedded & Edge Computing, Supermicro.

S&P/TSX composite index closes up as gold rises, U.S. markets also higher

TORONTO - Canada's main stock index pushed to another record close on Thursday, helped by a rise in the price of gold, while U.S. markets also closed higher after mixed trading earlier in the day. The S&P/TSX composite index closed up 91.59 points at 26,615.75 in broad gains that included telecoms, financials and health care, while tech and base metal stocks were down. The market has been on a fairly steady climb since early April when U.S. tariff plans rattled markets globally and helped send gold prices soaring, which in turn has helped the TSX, said John Zechner, chairman and lead equity manager at J. Zechner Associates. 'I think people lose sight of the fact how important the gold stocks are in our index now,' he said, noting the sector makes up about 13 per cent of the index. Other sectors like financials and energy haven't been performing that well but gold stocks have benefited from the price of the metal climbing from around US$2,600 an ounce at the start of the year to over US$3,300 in recent weeks. 'It's really those gold stocks that carry the day.' Gold rose again Thursday, with the August contract up US$58.70 at US$3,402.40 an ounce, a day after lower-than-expected inflation data out of the U.S. pushed down the U.S. dollar because there was less need for the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates. 'It's playing that correlation perfectly,' said Zechner. 'The trade-weighted U.S. dollar is getting hit hard today, and gold just, you know, surged on that again.' The rise helped push Barrick Mining Corp. up nearly three per cent, Lundin Gold Inc. up 6.4 per cent and Kinross Gold Corp. up 1.4 per cent. Equinox Gold was, however, down 5.7 per cent after raising its cost guidance and notifying of slower-than-planned production at its Greenstone gold mine in Ontario. New York markets had been mixed earlier in the day but closed higher. The Dow Jones industrial average closed up 101.85 points at 42,967.62. The S&P 500 index was up 23.02 points at 6,045.26, while the Nasdaq composite was up 46.61 points at 19,662.48. Updates on trade talks, which have helped drive market sentiment in recent weeks, were more scant Thursday. Investors will be looking to the G7 meeting in Alberta early next week for any signs of progress, said Zechner. 'They're not doing a communique or anything like that, it's just, you know, how much will Trump stir up relative to the other guys, and what will come out of that.' The Canadian dollar also benefited from a weakening U.S. currency, trading for 73.46 cents US compared with 73.18 cents US on Wednesday. The July crude oil contract was down 11 cents US at US$68.04 per barrel and the July natural gas contract was down two cents US at US$3.49 per mmBTU. The July copper contract was up three cents US at US$4.84 a pound. This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 12, 2025. Companies in this story: (TSX:GSPTSE, TSX:CADUSD)

Are Robots The Answer To China's Aged Care Crisis? Beijing Launches Massive Trial To Test If Machines Can Cook, Clean And Console The Elderly

Are robots the solution to China's growing aged care problem? The Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has announced a large-scale trial program to test whether intelligent machines can provide not just physical assistance, but also emotional support for its expanding senior population. What Happened: The ministry has invited private companies with proven track records in elder care to apply for the initiative. Firms must have robust environmental, credit, and safety records to qualify. Selected participants must develop at least 200 robots and deploy them across 20 test sites within two years of approval. Trending: Maker of the $60,000 foldable home has 3 factory buildings, 600+ houses built, and big plans to solve housing — The robots will be evaluated on a wide range of abilities, including cooking, cleaning, and fall prevention, to feeding, lifting, and assisting with going to the toilet, and outdoor mobility. In addition to physical support, the Ministry has also called for building machines capable of "anti-wandering and anti-falling" features for dementia patients and tools that can identify early symptoms of cognitive decline. They are also looking for robots that can hold conversations in various dialects, read books and newspapers, and even place video calls to family members. Described as "intelligent communication companion service robots," these machines are expected to counter loneliness and act as possible substitutes for pets. Why It Matters: While the ministry does not explicitly call for humanoid design, the features described are most closely associated with human caregiving. Tesla Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) CEO Elon Musk, in an article for China's cyberspace authority in 2022, floated an idea somewhat similar to what the ministry is looking for: 'Perhaps in less than a decade, people will be able to buy a robot for their parents as a birthday gift,' he wrote, referring to Tesla's humanoid robots currently in month, Musk shared his belief that humanoid robots will start impacting countries' GDPs in "4-5 years." He weighed in on the massive amounts of power humanoid robots will require to function to the height of their capabilities. Musk has also asserted that Optimus, his company's humanoid robot, is capable of learning tasks simply by watching YouTube videos, much like humans can. Nvidia Corp. (NASDAQ:NVDA) CEO Jensen Huang has suggested that Optimus might be the first humanoid robot to reach both mass production and advanced technical capability. "I think this is likely to be the next multi-trillion-dollar industry," he said. Recently, Nvidia unveiled Isaac GR00T, labeled as "the world's first open, fully customizable foundation model for humanoid robots, enabling generalized reasoning and skill development."
