Squawking flock of 40 peacocks terrorise locals in Staffordshire village

Noisy peacocks have been keeping locals up in the early hours of the morning in a small Staffordshire village.
The birds have been ruffling some feathers in Tutbury and the problem is so bad that the parish council has told people not to feed them.
Droppings on driveways and vehicles, loud squawking and destroyed gardens are just some of the issues residents are fed up with.
Retired dinner lady Marion West, 71, described the peakcoks as a 'bit of a pain'.
She said: 'They're up half the night squawking and keep you awake.
'I squirt them with a water pistol if they come near me. If you're not careful, they poo everywhere, and it's such a mess.
'They eat your flowers too, they're a pain in the backside. When they walk on your roof, it sounds like you've got burglars.'
Other residents who did not wish to be named described the birds as an 'absolute nuisance' who squawk during the early hours.
But some, like Heather Hunter-Harris, 63, who has been living in the area for more than 16 years, think the peacocks are just part of the village's charm.
She said: 'The peacocks have always been in Tutbury. I feel like if you take those out, you're taking Tutbury away.
'People come here to see the peacocks, and when they put their tails up, it looks lovely.
'You've just got to be tolerant, keep out their way, and let them get on with it.'
According to council chair Francis Crossley, the growing peacock population in the village has created 'serious problems'.
He said there were 26 peacocks during the council's last count but said there could now be up to 40.
The council is asking everybody in the village to stop feeding the birds after residents complained that they are becoming an 'invasion of privacy'. More Trending
Feeding the peacocks encourages them to roost and make loud, early-morning calls near homes, it added.
Francis said: 'Some people love them, but some people can't bear them, it's a Marmite situation.
'They wouldn't attack anyone, but when they see their reflection, they do peck – like if they see a reflection in a car.
'As a Parish Council, we haven't really taken a view as they're not ours.'

Joe Tate (Ned Porteous), meanwhile, learns of Ruby's plight and, feeling indebted to Caleb over the theft of his kidney, he decides to intervene, paying off a contact in Spain to masquerade as Anthony so that the police are able to rule out any foul play. Ruby is therefore very much in the clear and thus returns home to Mill Cottage where she reunited with her loved ones. The happiness will be short-lived, however, as upcoming scenes will see the body identified as Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter). As far as we know, Ruby's dad Anthony is dead, hence why Joe was needed to get his contacts to claim to be the abuser. The character was last seen in January via a flashback sequence, which confirmed that Ruby was the one to murder him. 'Drunk' man kicked off plane for 'vomiting on passenger' before 13-hour flight

Kids kicking the back of your seat the whole way, the person next to you coughing and spluttering everywhere, the person who decides to watch their film without headphones. Spare a thought for the passenger on this EVA Air flight who would have been thanking his lucky stars for dodging all that. That is until the guy sitting behind got up and vomited on him moments before they were due to take off on a 13-hour trip from Taiwan to Austria. Footage taken inside the cabin on May 25 shows the culprit looking worse for wear while still leaning on the seat in front as crew members surround him. One can be see trying to lift him from his seat while colleagues remove his rucksack. Other passengers reported spotting an empty bottle of whisky. One told local media: 'The cabin door was already closed, and then that person started vomiting. 'There was an older man on his right, and when he saw him vomiting, he immediately stood up. 'The flight attendants later helped move that older man's seat, but that whole row was then blocked off and no one could sit there.' Staff made the man disembark so they could clean the seat. The flight was able to depart, but only after a delay of about half an hour, as reported by What's The Jam. Body found in search for British man who went missing on stag do in Portugal

Greg Monks, 38, went missing on the first night of a five-day stay in Albufeira during the early hours of May 28. The Scotsman told friends that he was heading back to the apartments where he was staying, but was not seen again. A major search was launched, while his parents and girlfriend Nicole Ashleigh Kelso flew out to support. A body was found this afternoon in a ravine in Cerro da Aguia, to the west of Albufeira, close to where he was last seen. It was removed from a steep wasteland area by firefighters and has been taken for an autopsy. His sister Jillian Monks paid tribute to her brother and told the Daily Record: 'We are truly heartbroken. Everyone who knows Greg knows how much he will be missed and what an amazing guy he was.' A FCDO Spokesperson told Metro: 'We are supporting the family of a British man reported missing in Portugal and are in contact with the local authorities.' Portugal's Policia Judiciaria police force said in a statement: 'The PJ has located the body of the missing Scottish tourist in Albufeira. 'The disappearance of the 38-year-old UK citizen was reported to the Albufeira GNR at 8pm on May 28 by another man who was accompanying him on holiday in the area. 'After carrying out various enquiries and establishing the presumed route taken in the early hours of that day since the last sighting, the body was located on steep wasteland. 'After the appropriate judicial inspection, the body will be removed and taken to the nearest Institute of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy.' His sisters Jillian and Carlyn appeared on Sky News yesterday before today's police announcement. Carlyn said: 'As a family, we're worried sick. It's just so unlike him, but myself and Jillian are just trying to hold each other up back home.' Jillian said: 'He deserves to be found, he deserves to be looked for, we need him home. 'He's a big part of our family, and it's just unimaginable if he's just lying somewhere and we can't find him.' Jillian described Greg as a 'really hard worker' in his job and a 'quiet guy' whose disappearance immediately 'threw up a red flag'. She added that he has a Thor-type Viking unfinished tattoo at the top of his right arm which would be visible if he was wearing a vest top or had no shirt on. Hospitals have been checked without success, but police are not thought to have yet carried out an exhaustive search of medical centres. A GoFundMe has been set up on behalf of the family to help support the search which has so far raised £24,125.
