Two men accused of robbing Chinese national of RM2.1mil
Mohd Syaqir Mohd Ami, 30, and Nur Mohamed Mahsar Mohamed Nor, 34, were jointly charged with two other individuals who are still at large with committing gang robbery against property belonging to Chen Kexue, 31.
The assets include a branded wristwatch worth RM1.2mil, three gold bars weighing 300g, RM100,000 in cash and five mobile phones of various brands, with an estimated loss of RM2,146,000, at a villa in Bukit Damansara here, at 10.10pm on July 21.
The charge was brought under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 20 years and whipping, if convicted.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nidzuan Abdul Latif did not offer bail because the offence is non-bailable, and also requested the court to consider the offence serious, involving high losses.
"If the court grants bail, there is a risk of the accused fleeing because during the arrest, one of the accused tried to escape.
"However, if the court grants bail, I request that each accused be granted bail of RM60,000 along with the additional condition that they must report to the nearest police station and surrender their passports to the court," he said.
Lawyer Hazwan Hassan, representing the two men, requested the court to grant his clients bail between RM10,000 and RM15,000 with certain additional conditions, as bail is only to ensure the accused's attendance in court.
Mohd Syaqir works as a salesman and earns RM2,000 per month. He supports his mother, who has stage four cancer, and he just recovered from paralysis after being involved in an accident in August last year.
"Meanwhile, Nur Mohamed Mahsar, who also works as a salesman and earns RM2,000 a month, has to support his wife and two young children," the lawyer said, adding that there was no risk of the two accused fleeing.
Judge Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin, who set the case mention for Sept 30, granted bail of RM15,000 to each accused, along with additional conditions requested by the prosecution. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: Four Bangladeshis were detained at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 for suspected involvement in smuggling gold and smartphones. The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) said the arrests were made in collaboration with the airport's Aviation Security (Avsec) team, following preliminary intelligence and profiling efforts. "Various items, with a total estimated value of RM187,742.10, were seized during the operation. "These included three pieces of jewellery believed to be gold, worth approximately RM160,000; 12 smartphones of various brands valued at RM22,700; cash amounting to RM5,042.10; and five international passports belonging to Bangladeshi nationals," the agency said in a statement today. It added that all four suspects are being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63. Three of them are suspected of violating Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for breaching the conditions of their entry passes, while one is suspected of committing an offence under Section 6(1)(c) of the same Act for entering and remaining in Malaysia without a valid pass or permit. "A police report was lodged following the arrests and seizure of the items. "All four have been handed over to the Selangor Immigration Department for further investigation and legal action under the relevant laws," the agency added.

MCBA nabs 22 foreigners at KLIA
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) foiled an attempt by 22 foreigners to enter the country illegally through operations conducted at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2. MCBA said 21 of them were denied entry to Malaysia, while one was detained for allegedly using forged travel documents. "The first attempt involved six Cambodians, including an individual believed to be acting as a carrier. "All of them did not know each other and claimed to have come to Malaysia to seek asylum. "However, investigations found that they failed to submit any supporting documents for their asylum applications as stipulated," the agency said in a statement today. MCBA said three Indonesians were detected abusing the 90-day single entry visa facility. It said investigations found that they failed to give a strong justification for the purpose of entry, did not have proof of accommodation booking and did not have return flight tickets. "Further investigation found that they were suspected of trying to enter the country to work illegally," he said. The agency said it also arrested a Chinese citizen after he was found to be using a passport with suspicious endorsements. "The suspect is believed to have obtained an entry and exit stamp illegally using the flying method and misused travel documents. "The suspect is now being detained for further investigation for forgery of documents and attempted exit without legal procedures," it said. The agency said it arrested 12 people, consisting of seven Indians and five Pakistanis who tried to pass the immigration check counter without going through valid checks. All were issued with notices of refusal and will be sent back to their country immediately on the earliest flight.

Two Malaysian tourists set on fire in shocking Bangkok attack

BANGKOK (Aug 8): Two Malaysian tourists were critically injured after being set on fire by an unemployed man on Ratchadamri Road here on Thursday night. The incident occurred at around 10pm Thursday when the suspect suddenly poured thinner from behind onto the two Malaysians – a man, Ong, 26, and a woman, Gan, 27 – who were seated on the steps near a shopping centre at the time. The Malaysian Embassy's Chargé d'Affaires ad interim to Thailand, Bong Yik Jui, said he had visited the victims, who remain in critical but stable condition. He said Ong was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Police General Hospital, while Gan is receiving treatment at King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital. 'Ong sustained second-degree burns across his upper body, both front and back. The injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening. 'Gan suffered 36 per cent, second degree burns but her condition is stable and conscious,' he told Bernama when contacted on Friday. Meanwhile, Superintendent of Lumpini Police Station Pol Col Yingyos Suwanno said the suspect is a 30-year-old man from Sa Kaeo province, who allegedly attacked the victims out of frustration over being unemployed.
