Chelsea agree £20m deal to sell forgotten striker Armando Broja to Premier League new boys

The Sun19 hours ago
CHELSEA are set to cash in on striker Armando Broja by selling him to Burnley.
The Blues are said to have reached an agreement with the newly-promoted Clarets on a fee of up to £20million.

The deal would give Chelsea another big boost as they attempt to balance the books after a busy summer of recruitment.
And Broja, 23, would have the chance to revive a career stalled by injury and unsuccessful loan spells.
The Albania international is a product of the Chelsea academy, so any transfer fee would be pure profit for the purposes of financial rules.
The same applied to homegrown Blues defender Bashir Humphreys, who joined Burnley for an initial £12m earlier this summer after spending last season on loan with the Clarets.
Broja is thought to be open to a move to Turf Moor as he seeks a new start.
The centre forward was born in England to Albanian parents and joined the Chelsea academy at under-eight level.
Broja was a star of the Blues' youth team, winning a treble of under-18 Premier League, Premier League Cup and FA Youth Cup in 2017/18.
After making his first-team debut in March 2020, the frontman spent a season on loan at partner club Vitesse Arnhem in Holland.

Broja became the first Albanian to score in the Premier League during his year at Southampton in 2021/22.
But he suffered a serious knee injury in a friendly against Aston Villa during the break for the 2022 winter World Cup in Qatar.
How Nicolas Jackson could make £80m Newcastle switch | Transfers Exposed
Broja slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge as the new owners went on a spending spree.
His last Premier League goal came in October 2023 against Fulham.
He joined the Cottagers on loan for the second half of the 2023/24 season, but did not start a league game.
Broja went to Everton on another temporary deal last season but managed only 11 first-team appearances, and no goals, in a campaign wrecked by Achilles and ankle problems.

Chelsea agree £20m transfer deal to sell forgotten striker

Burnley have agreed a transfer deal with Chelsea to sign Armando Broja, according to reports. Chelsea have set out their stall in the summer transfer market in a bid to close the gap on their Premier League rivals, with Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Joao Pedro all joining to help bolster Enzo Maresca's attack. The Blues are also working on a £60million transfer for RB Leipzig and Netherlands winger Xavi Simons, who is said to be eager to push through a transfer to Stamford Bridge. Joao Felix and Noni Madueke have both moved in the opposite direction, joining Al-Nassr and Arsenal respectively, and Broja is now expected to follow suit as he looks to secure regular playing time away from west London. Broja, 23, struggled to make a significant impact across an injury-hit loan spell with Everton last season, failing to find the net in any of his 11 appearances for the Merseyside outfit in all competitions. But Broja's disappointing campaign at Goodison Park has not put newly promoted Burnley off a potential deal for the striker and talks have been advancing at a pace in recent days. According to The Sun, the Clarets have reached an agreement worth up to £20million for the Albania international, who has been on Chelsea's books since Under-8 level. Given Broja is a product of Chelsea's academy, the proposed sale would represent 'pure profit' as the west London giants look to balance the books to comply with PSR rules. Broja would become the second homegrown Chelsea player to leave for Turf Moor this summer, with Bashir Humphreys completing a £12m switch in May following an initial loan move. More Trending The report claims Broja is 'open' to the prospect of joining Burnley, but the forward is still yet to agree personal terms with Scott Parker's side. Broja would become Burnley's 11th signing of the summer, with the club investing heavily in recruitment to give themselves the best possible chance of survival on their return to Premier League football. The forward, who has also enjoyed loan spells with Vitesse, Southampton and Fulham, has three years remaining on his current contract at Stamford Bridge. A cameo appearance in Chelsea's FA Cup fourth-round tie with Aston Villa back in January 2024 was the last time Broja featured in a competitive match for his boyhood team. 'Stuff of dreams' for Longelo as late equaliser rewards sticking to plan

Emmanuel Longelo admits his late equaliser on his league debut for the club was the "stuff of dreams" as Motherwell produced a stirring second-half display to earn an opening day Premiership point against Rangers. The Ibrox side had taken an early lead through James Tavernier's close range header from a corner with the home team initially struggling to implement the style of play manager Jens Berthel Askou all changed after half-time with Motherwell perhaps unlucky not to earn a long-awaited home league win over Rangers."I feel like it was a deserved outcome," Longelo explained to BBC Scotland."We stuck to the manager's game plan very well, even though at times it wasn't working well for us. I felt like the boys dug in and I we should have had the victory."He [Berthel-Askou] just kept telling us to believe in ourselves and believe in our qualities. He keeps mentioning to us in training that we're top players and we just have to have that self-belief every time we're on the training pitch and we step out here to just keep believing in ourselves.""I felt like if we took our chances, more clinically in the end, we would have had the three points, but it's a stepping stone for us."At half-time, questions were being posed as to whether Motherwell's, at times, risky desire to play out from the back might be costing them against such opposition. It cost them the opening goal but sticking with it paid off as the home side increasingly took the game to Rangers."It will definitely boost the morale, boost the belief, so our fans can buy into it," the striker continued. "Once they buy into it, it will help us each and every time we step out on this pitch or whenever we travel away. "As long as we keep at it and keep doing what the manager wants us to do, then they'll [the fans] get on board and it will all come together."

'A glimmer of light' - fan views on Ramsdale

We asked for your reaction to Aaron Ramsdale's move to Newcastle on a season-long loan from are some of your comments:Richard: What we really need between the sticks is a keeper with decent feet. Pope and Dubravka are very good shot stoppers but if you ever wondered what a stadium full of people sharply intaking their breath sounds like then go to St. James Park when Nick Pope gets a back pass! Modern keepers are expected to be able to distribute with their feet like another defender to break opponents' press. If Ramsdale's up to that then he's got my Ramsdale is a quality keeper, just entering his prime with a great deal of experience. He'll learn a lot at Newcastle and should realise his Well liked by the fans who liked his enthusiasm and drive. Slightly bonkers at times but aren't all goalkeepers? Not good at fast long throws and not naturally two Aaron played for the Blades a few seasons ago. He was brilliant and marked out even then as a future England keeper. He likes being part of a passionate northern club and will fit in very Ramsdale is the pragmatic transfer after Trafford chose Man City. He represents a positive, pragmatic choice in getting a proven English keeper who can replace or provide competition for Pope. A glimmer of light in what is looking like a dismal window for Definitely play Ramsdale. Pope is a calamity. Every time the ball is played back to him we feel trepidation. Ramsdale is so much better. I'd keep Dubravka and try to sell Pope. Move onwards.
