Ex-Hamilton Accies star looks to next chapter after relegation causes exit
Reghan Tumilty admits it was difficult to leave Hamilton Accies, but he's got to do what's best for him and his family.
The defender announced his departure after two-and-a-half seasons on social media, and Tumilty's looking for his next chapter after a holiday in Portugal.
Hamilton would have ended last season seventh in the Championship but for a 15-point deduction for off-field offences, and Tumilty has made the decision to move on.
But he thanked boss John Rankin for rescuing him from a miserable spell at Hartlepool United in 2023
Tumilty said: 'It was bad the way it ended, really, sad, really. Us as players, we felt like we did the best we could, that was all we could really do.
'It was about being professional and finishing it, and whatever happens happens.
'It was frustrating to be relegated, but we did our jobs. We had to be professional about it and do our side.
'We were hopeful that we would get some points back [in an appeal], but we got zero and there was no hope in the end.
'We had to be professional and I think we proved that in the last game against Falkirk.
'I know we got beat in the end, but we put on a good show, considering the amount that was going on in the background, and we were trying to play at the same time.
'I'm proud of my team-mates, to be fair.'
Tumilty added: 'It's not ideal but it's good for me now to move on and start somewhere else.
'There have been ups and downs, and I have enjoyed it.
'I do thank them a lot for bringing me in, the manager bringing me in, because it was at a point where I was hating football, so it made me like it again.
'Winning the SPFL Trust Trophy was a good moment, there have been a few 1-0, Tumilty games in the last couple of seasons, and those are my favourite ones.'
Tumilty doesn't have a club lined up, but hopes he can find a new one ahead of next season.
He said: 'I don't know what comes next, I'm just enjoying my holiday, I'm heading to Portugal.
'It has been good to switch off and enjoy my holidays, because you don't get it very often.
'You get this month a year, but your friends and family are at work, so you're just kind of hanging about.
'It will be good to get away and not really think about it.
'Hopefully I won't be short of offers.
'I've played a lot of games, so it's getting to that stage where hopefully something comes and it's the right fit, because I have things to pay for these days, I have bills to pay for.'

Ross County boss Don Cowie's message for frustrated fans ahead of Partick Thistle clash
Don Cowie insists he shares Ross County fans' frustration – but vowed to help turn their early season slump around. The Staggies manager has seen his side bow out of the Premier Sports Cup group stages, draw 2-2 at Airdrieonians after leading 2-0 and lose 1-0 late on against expected title rivals St Johnstone. On Saturday, they host Partick Thistle in the Championship – just four weeks after the Jags won 3-1 in Dingwall in the League Cup. Mark Wilson's team have also just one point from their first two league games – but their flawless form in the cup has taken them into a quarter-final showdown against holders Celtic next month. Cowie and his players have been under fire from sections of the support due to poor performances and results, and he knows it. Cowie said: 'I share the same frustration, and the players share it as well. 'The frustration is valid, especially for the fans. Like I say, each signing that has come in, it's been like 'that's a good signing'. 'That's what we feel as a football club. We're really happy with what we've taken in. 'But now ultimately it is down to the players. We've all set out our stall, between me, the board and the players, what our goals are going into this season. 'Now it is a case of 'go and show it'. 'They recognise they need to perform a lot better than they have.' *** County's bid, meanwhile, to bring Dundee goalkeeper Trevor Carson to the club on loan has reportedly ended with the 37-year-old opting to remain at Dens Park. The former Hartlepool, Motherwell, Dundee United and St Mirren keeper was wanted as competition for Ross Laidlaw and Brad Foster and the clubs had agreed on the move until January. However, Carson has turned down the switch, preferring to fight for the number one spot with Jon McCracken, who is Steven Pressley's current top pick for the Dark Blues.

Dundee keeper Trevor Carson turns down Ross County loan move
Trevor Carson will not be joining Ross County despite Dundee accepting a loan bid from the Championship title hopefuls. The Staggies are keen to bolster their promotion charge and identified the experienced Dark Blues stopper as a key target. That's after Dens boss Steven Pressley made Jon McCracken his No 1 choice at the start of this season, leaving Carson as understudy in the opening league matches. Courier Sport understands 37-year-old Carson made clear to Pressley his desire to play games rather than sit on the bench in the latter stage of his career. Dundee want the veteran stopper to remain at Dens Park but would not stand in his way. A loan offer then arrived from Championship Ross County and was accepted by the Dark Blues with Dundee starting their search for a replacement. However, after some deliberation, the goalkeeper has decided against the move to the Dingwall outfit. Carson is expected to be part of the matchday squad travelling to Kilmarnock on Saturday.
