The Weeknd's Career-Making Album Returns To Multiple Billboard Charts

Forbes29-03-2025
The Weeknd's grip on the Billboard charts remains as tight as ever, and he even expands his power. This frame, half a dozen of his albums are performing well across a number of rankings in America, and many of them appear on multiple lists at once. Among his current wins, one release stands out, as it's returned unexpectedly – and it's one that even casual pop fans will remember.
Beauty Behind the Madness is once again a hit in America. The full-length that turned The Weeknd from an underground R&B talent into a proper pop superstar is mounting quite the comeback this week. It breaks onto three Billboard charts at once, returning to several tallies after some time away.
The set appears inside the top 40 on just one of those rankings, as it reenters the Top R&B Albums chart at No. 13. It also returns to the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list at No. 42 and sneaks back onto the Billboard 200 at No. 126.
The Weeknd released Beauty Behind the Madness in summer of 2015, so it's nearing its tenth anniversary. The set produced the Hot 100 No. 1s 'The Hills' and 'Can't Feel My Face,' which still rank among the singer-songwriter's most successful tunes. Fellow singles 'Often,' 'In the Night' and 'Acquainted' also performed very well.
This week, Beauty Behind the Madness is in good company. It's one of four albums by The Weeknd that show up on the Billboard 200, the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and the Top R&B Albums tally all at once. Alongside Beauty Behind the Madness, three other titles manage that same showing. Hurry Up Tomorrow, Starboy, and After Hours all sit on those same three rankings this week.
Among the albums charting right now, Hurry Up Tomorrow is far and away The Weeknd's top performer. That's to be expected, since it was only released less than two months ago, and it's still riding the momentum of that launch.
This frame, the new title appears on six different Billboard rankings. While it's beginning to decline on most of them, the exciting project remains a top 40 performer on all half-dozen tallies, holding on inside the top 10 on one-third of all those rosters.

Music spaces can strengthen communities

Live music is booming. According to Goldman Sachs' Music in the Air report, the global live music market is estimate to reach $38.2 billion this year and is projected to nearly double by 2035. People crave real-world experiences and they're willing to pay for them, whether they're close to home or in faraway cities. Forward-thinking municipal governments are taking notice. If they're not already, they should be. For 21 st century cities, music isn't just entertainment—it's civic infrastructure. When designed intentionally, music venues can drive economic growth, foster social connection, boost local culture, and reflect a city's identity. More than a stage: The Orion's civic role Doubling as a premier music venue and vital community hub, The Orion Amphitheater in Huntsville, Alabama was recently named Billboard's 2024 Top East Coast Amphitheater and atop-10 venue in Pollstar's 2025 Midyear Worldwide Amphitheater Rankings in tickets sold and gross sales. Since opening, the city's $55 million investment has yielded an estimated $85 million in annual economic impact. Half the venue's visitors come from outside the region, filling hotels, restaurants, and local shops. The Orion's ripple effect extends well beyond show nights. The City of Huntsville also invested $45 million in infrastructure and public space around the venue, transforming the MidCity District into a thriving place where people live, work, gather, and experience their favorite artists on stage. Civic stagecraft: How programming builds community The Orion's calendar goes far beyond marquee names like Stevie Nicks, Billy Strings, Lil' Wayne, and Luke Bryan. Events include local artist showcases, sourdough-making workshops, Juneteenth and Disability Pride celebrations, art galleries, book clubs, and a variety of other community-driven events throughout the year. These diverse offerings create a space where everyone sees themselves represented on stage. Events like the recently held Trap Democracy Festival blend music with civic education, offering fresh ways to engage the community and reimagine what a music event can be. Local musicians are central to this mission. Each year, 80 to 100 local and regional acts perform across the venue's campus during community events like Pupapalooza, the Cigar Box Guitar Festival, and the Taste of Soul Family Festival. Local artists and bands also regularly perform pre- and post-show sets on major concert nights, encouraging attendees to arrive early and extend their experience. The venue is designed to be a public resource—open and accessible. Apollo Park, adjacent to the amphitheater, remains open year-round as a gathering space where patrons can spend time before or after a concert, or anytime they wish. As a city-owned property, it's important for residents to feel ownership and pride: This is their venue. Public-private partnership as a culture lab The Orion Amphitheater is the result of a visionary partnership between Mayor Tommy Battle, tvg Hospitality CEO Ben Lovett (a founding member of Mumford & Sons), and RCP Properties, developers of MidCity District. Huntsville's collaborative approach exemplifies a new model of artist-informed urban development. Lovett put it plainly when The Orion opened: 'The success of the venue will rely heavily on an open relationship with the people of Huntsville…knowledge, assistance, energy, and passion will drive the venue forward.' So far, that collaborative energy is paying off. Huntsville's broader investment in the creative economy, anchored by The Orion, has helped generate more than 46,000 new jobs and attract over $7 billion in private investment. A playbook for other cities Concert venues are often seen solely as entertainment infrastructure. But when designed with community in mind, they become multifunctional platforms for connection. Cities hoping to replicate Huntsville's success should build spaces that serve both headliners and hometown heroes. When cities and developers cocreate through a culture-first lens as a strategy for place-making, the ROI includes stronger identity, deeper engagement, and talent retention. Huntsville's model is still evolving, but it's already offering a new kind of blueprint for cities seeking inclusive, culture-driven growth. As more communities explore the intersections of space, sound, and story, one truth rings clear. When cities make room for music, they make room for everyone. In Huntsville, the stage isn't just for performance—it's for possibility.

Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new Aug. 9, 2025-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard's website on Aug. 5. For all chart news, follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram. Of I'm the Problem's 143,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending July 31, SEA units comprise 137,000 (up 2%, equaling 180.43 million on-demand official streams of the set's songs — it leads Top Streaming Albums for a 10th nonconsecutive week), album sales comprise 5,000 (down 23% — it falls 15-16 on Top Album Sales) and TEA units comprise 1,000 (up 30%). Cumulatively, Wallen's three No. 1 albums (I'm the Problem, One Thing at a Time and Dangerous: The Double Album) have spent a total of 38 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. That sum solely gives Wallen the fifth-most weeks at No. 1 among male artists in the chart's history, which dates to March 1956, when the chart began publishing on a regular weekly basis. He was previously tied with Harry Belafonte and Drake with 37 weeks each. Among male artists, the leaders are: Elvis Presley (67 weeks), Garth Brooks (52), Michael Jackson (51), Elton John (39), Wallen (38), Belafonte and Drake (37 each). Among all artists, The Beatles have the most weeks at No. 1, with 132 across 19 No. 1 albums. The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack returns to its peak on the Billboard 200, as it climbs 3-2 with 93,000 equivalent album units earned (up 4%) — its best week yet by units earned. TOMORROW X TOGETHER collects its seventh top 10-charted effort as The Star Chapter: TOGETHER debuts at No. 3. The set earned 65,000 equivalent album units in its first week. Album sales comprise 62,000 of that sum (it debuts at No. 1 on Top Album Sales), SEA units comprise 3,000 (equaling 4.23 million on-demand official streams of the set's songs) and TEA units comprise a negligible sum. The album's first-week sales were bolstered by its availability across 24 CD variants (all with collectible ephemera, some randomized, inside its packaging). Tyler, The Creator's DON'T TAP THE GLASS falls 1-4 in its second week on the Billboard 200, with 59,000 equivalent album units earned (down 70%). Justin Bieber's SWAG rises 6-5 (52,000, down 28%). YoungBoy Never Broke Again achieves his 16th top 10-charted album on the Billboard 200, as MASA enters at No. 6. The set earned 49,000 equivalent album units in its first week, with SEA units comprising 48,000 of that sum (equaling 69.15 million on-demand official streams of its songs — it debuts at No. 4 on Top Streaming Albums). Album sales comprise a little under 1,000 (it was only available to purchase as a standard widely available digital download) and TEA units comprise a negligible sum. With a 16th top 10, YoungBoy Never Broke Again ties Jay-Z and Nas for the third-most top 10 albums among hip-hop artists. Only Future (with 18) and Drake (17) have more among hip-hop acts. (Among all artists, of all genres, The Rolling Stones have the most top 10s, with 38.) Tyler Childers scores his highest-charting album, and third top 10, on the Billboard 200 with the No. 7 launch of Snipe Hunter. The set earned 48,000 equivalent album units in its first week. Album sales comprise 27,000 of that sum (it debuts at No. 2 on Top Album Sales), SEA units comprise 20,500 (equaling 26.14 million on-demand official streams of its songs — it debuts at No. 20 on Top Streaming Albums) and TEA units comprise about 500. Snipe Hunter's first-week sales were aided by its availability across seven vinyl variants, along with a widely available standard CD and digital download. The album was preceded by the radio-promoted single 'Nose on the Grindstone,' which climbs to No. 18 — a new peak — on the Adult Alternative Airplay chart. Rounding out the top 10 of the latest Billboard 200 are Alex Warren's You'll Be Alright, Kid (falling 5-8 with 47,000 equivalent album units, down 35%); JACKBOYS and Travis Scott's former No. 1 JACKBOYS 2 (4-9 with 46,000, down 41%); and Ozzy Osbourne's The Essential Ozzy Osbourne (7-10 with nearly 46,000, up 5%).
