Pahalgam terror attack: Meet Kashmiri shawl vendor who carried injured tourists on his back

Mint24-04-2025

Amid the brutal terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's scenic Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam on 22 April, killing 26 people, including both locals and visitors, a viral video is making the rounds on social media where a Kashmiri shawl hawker carried a tourist on his back.
The Kashmiri shawl hawker, identified as Sajad Ahmad Bhat, said: 'Humanity comes before religion."
He mentioned that along with others, he immediately rushed to help those who were stranded after their Pahalgam Poney Association president, Abdul Waheed Wan, dropped a message, saying there was an ongoing terrorist attack.
Speaking to ANI, Sajad Ahmad Bhat said, "The Pahalgam Poney Association president, Abdul Waheed Wan, messaged in our group about the incident in Baisaran Valley. So we went with him and reached the location around 3 PM. We gave water to the injured and lifted those who could not walk.... Humanity comes before religion. It is our duty to help the tourists as they are our guests, and our livelihood depends on them. We brought many of them to the hospital"
He added, 'We did not care about our own lives because when we went there, people were pleading for help... When I saw the tourists crying, tears came to my eyes... Their arrival lights up the lamps in our houses. Our life is incomplete without them...'
Earlier on 22 April, when tourists were enjoying their time in the scenic Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, some terrorists opened fire and killed 26 people, including both locals and visitors.
Among the victims are those from states like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, West Bengal, Bihar, and Tamil Nadu.
Kashmir on 23 April observed a complete shutdown in a show of solidarity and outrage, as protests erupted across the region to condemn the brutal attack.
He made it clear that those behind the Pahalgam terror attack and those part of the conspiracy will be punished beyond their imagination.
PM Modi said that the entire nation is saddened by the brutality with which terrorists killed innocent civilians, mostly tourists, in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22nd April.
'Today, from the soil of Bihar, I say to the whole world India will identify, track, and punish every terrorist and their backers,' Modi said in English.
PM Modi also stated: "Terrorism will not go unpunished. Every effort will be made to ensure that justice is done. The entire nation is firm in this resolve."
The decisions to downgrade diplomatic ties with Pakistan in view of cross-border links to the Pahalgam attack were taken in the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) meeting chaired by PM Modi on April 23.
The Resistance Front (TRF), an offshoot of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, is believed to be behind Tuesday's attack, a claim that Mint has not been able to verify so far. Some reports even suggested that a top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander, Saifullah Kasuri, alias Khalid, is believed to be the 'mastermind' of the attack. There has not been any official word on these claims yet.
Pakistan has, however, denied any involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack. 'Pakistan has nothing to do with it (Pagalgam terror attack)," Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif told a local TV channel on April 23.

12-year-old girl falls 30 feet into gorge after zipline belt breaks mid-air in Manali, chilling video emerges

A Nagpur-based girl spending her summer vacation in Himachal Pradesh's Manali with her family was severely injured in a horrifying ziplining incident. Trisha Bijwe fell 30 feet into a rocky gorge while performing the adventure activity on June 8. The video of the heart-stopping moment has since gone viral on social media, showing the girl falling onto a cluster of boulders as the cable gives way. Midway through the ride, the zipline cable suddenly broke, causing her to plunge nearly 30 feet into a gorge below. Daughter of Prafulla and Bijwe from Nagpur, Trisha sustained multiple fractures in the fall. She underwent surgery a few days later and is currently recovering. Speaking to PTI, her father shared an update on her condition: 'My daughter's condition is now stable.' Sharing the video, an X user Nikhil Saini wrote, 'This is why adventure sports aren't safe in India. In Manali, a young girl fell from a zipline—nearly 30 feet—and is now seriously injured. Anyone without proper experience starts these activities, and there's no one to check. Action is only taken after a fatal accident happens.' 'This is Horrific. There are a number of these unauthorized Ziplines operating all over India. Strict Action is needed against these operators to prevent such accidents,' a user wrote. 'Never, ever do adventure sports in India. You've got zero-experience folks running the show, no guardrails, no safety protocols, no clue about first aid and absolutely no fear of legal consequences,' another user commented. 'Travelling inside India itself is an adventure!' a third user reacted. In January, a tourist from Tamil Nadu died after the paraglider he was on collided with another paraglider. Taiwan export control: Adds Huawei and SMIC to list; Beijing's chip ambitions hit another wall

Taiwan has added Chinese tech giants Huawei Technologies and Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp (SMIC) to its export control list, as tensions over trade and technology continue to rise between China, the US, and the island. The move means Taiwanese firms must now seek special permits before exporting goods to either company. Taiwan's commerce ministry confirmed the updated list on Sunday, placing the two sanctioned Chinese chipmakers alongside groups such as the Taliban and al-Qaeda, as well as other entities from Iran and China. The list, officially titled the 'strategic high-tech commodities' export control list, is part of Taiwan's regulatory framework designed to protect sensitive technologies from falling into the hands of potentially hostile actors, AP reported. Neither Huawei nor SMIC have publicly responded to the latest restrictions. Both firms are already under US sanctions and have been central to Beijing's push for technological self-sufficiency. Despite curbs, they have forged ahead with the production of China's most advanced domestic AI chips, aiming to rival US-based Nvidia and support Chinese tech firms amid an intensifying global chip war. Taiwan's decision further highlights its delicate position in the global tech supply chain. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pinga-Pinga e HBP? (TSMC), the world's largest contract chipmaker and a critical supplier for Nvidia. Last November, US ordered TSMC to stop shipping certain advanced chips to Chinese clients as part of broader efforts to slow China's access to leading-edge semiconductors. US is Taiwan's biggest unofficial ally and arms seller. Though the island country is self-ruled, China claims Taiwan to be its own territory, which it will annex by force, if needed.
