How Bravo became NBCUniversal's biggest streaming asset
When Frances Berwick started at Bravo in the 1990s, the cable channel was still positioning itself as a hub for 'film and arts.' Berwick climbed the NBCUniversal ladder, eventually growing her domain to all of the company's entertainment cable channels, including E!, Oxygen True Crime, SYFY, USA, and Universal Kids.
Her rise at NBCUniversal has coincided with cable's decline. Some 46% of households have cut the cord, and many of the networks she once oversaw faced dwindling audiences and profits to send back to parent company Comcast. So, the company amputated the afflicted limbs. All of those entertainment networks, along with news magnets like MSNBC and CNBC, will be overseen by a spinoff company, Versant, which is expected to be spun out by the end of 2025.
But Bravo, the network that houses reality franchises like The Real Housewives, Vanderpump Rules, and Top Chef, is staying in-house. That's due in part to the fan-driven culture of its programming, which can prop up custom advertising, live events, and—the company hopes—their streamer Peacock. Berwick will lead the way: In January, she was named chair of Bravo and Peacock Unscripted, effectively merging the reality network with its streamer.
Bravo isn't the perfect bet for NBCUniversal's television future. Its cable presence is sagging like most of its Versant counterparts, with an expected decline of 5% in subscribers and 6.5% in ad sales in 2025, per market research firm Kagan. (Bravo declined to disclose their financials.) Bravo also remains tied up in some long-tailed legal battles from 2023's Reality Reckoning, when claims of talent mistreatment challenged the network.

Brit Eady of Real Housewives of Atlanta has officially filed a $20,000,000 lawsuit against Bravo, NBCUniversal, and the production companies behind the franchise after she was seemingly exploited on the show for an alleged sex act. The incident dates back to the grand opening of Kenya Moore's hair spa in June 2024, where Moore dramatically revealed posters of a woman performing oral sex during her event. The show framed it as Kenya's clapback amid a feud with Eady, despite Eady not even being present at the party. Viewers and fellow castmates were led to believe that it was Eady in the explicit image. According to Eady's suit, producers allowed that narrative to go on, allegedly refusing to show her the photo even after she requested to see it multiple times. She says Bravo and its partners were either fully aware — or negligent — in allowing the photo to be broadcast with the suggestion that it was her. As a result, she claims she was subjected to 'emotional distress, workplace harassment, and reputational harm' that has gone far beyond the the dramatic reality show. Eady's lawsuit accuses the network of defamation, false light, sexual harassment, and creating a hostile work environment. She's demanding that the episode be taken down immediately from all platforms, and is requesting punitive damages in the amount of no less than $20,000,000. If Bravo and its partners fail to respond, her legal team reportedly wants the court to issue a default judgment. On Instagram Stories, Eady announced she would not be attending the RHOA reunion, and expressed her emotional state. 'The events of this season have devastated me… I do want to set the record straight about one thing: the graphic sexual photo surrounding the events in Episode 5. That photo was not me,' she wrote. She went on to clarify that she reacted based on what she was told, not what she saw, and only recently viewed the image for the first time — confirming it wasn't her. 'I did not see the photo at the time,' she continued. 'Rather, I was made aware of the photo being presented at the event, and based on what I was told, assumed that it was somehow a photo of me — which is why I reacted in the way that I did.' 'I do not know who was in that photo, but upon seeing it for the first time recently, I now know it was not me,' she continued. While Kenya Moore is not named in the lawsuit, her role in the controversy remains relevant. Moore was suspended from filming for the remainder of Season 16 after an internal investigation, and she later issued a public apology via X on Thursday (June 5). 'I'm disappointed to not be a part of the #RHOA 16 reunion taping today,' she wrote. 'Please know I take full accountability for my actions and deeply apologize to all those affected including Brittney, the cast, crew, guests and viewers. I look forward to seeing you all back on Bravo soon.' Both Moore and Eady reportedly opted out of attending the Season 16 reunion taping, which has yet to air. Hoda Kotb reveals top replacements for ‘Today,' addresses Kelly Clarkson rumors
NEW YORK — Hoda Kotb on Thursday revealed the people she thinks would be a perfect replacement for the hour of 'Today' she hosted with Jenna Bush Hager, while also addressing speculation she may be taking over Kelly Clarkson's daytime talk show. Since Kotb's departure in January, Bush Hager has continued to host the show's fourth hour with a series of celebrity guests, including Scarlett Johansson, Taraji P. Henson, Keke Palmer, Amy Poehler and Dwyane Wade. Appearing on Bravo's 'What What Happens Live With Andy Cohen,' Kotb shared her top 'contenders' to take up a more permanent position. 'Anybody would be like so lucky, but to me the contenders are ['Today' co-anchor] Savannah [Guthrie]. I think she would be great,' Kotb said. 'I think Justin Sylvester's amazing. Scarlett Johansson crushed it.' Kotb also praised comedian and podcaster Matt Rogers and 'Today' co-host Sheinelle Jones, who she acknowledged is 'going through a difficult time' following the recent death of Jones' husband, Uche Ojeh. But according to Kotb, the best fit for the show would ultimately be 'whoever clicks great with Jenna. I mean, that's the one.' During her appearance, Kotb also suggested there's no truth to the rumors she'll take over Clarkson's self-titled show, but admitted she'd 'never say never.' 'You don't know what life's gonna bring you,' she told a fan who asked about the possibility. 'At this moment, I'm having such fun with the ride that I'm on. But TV is my first love. So, as I say in life, you don't know.' The NBC mainstay announced in September that she would be leaving 'Today' after 17 years, including five as co-anchor. 'I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60, and to try something new,' Kotb said at the time. The decision was made in no small part so Kotb could spend more time with her two young daughters, Haley Joy, 9, and Hope Catherine, 5, whom she shares with ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman. By the end of the year, Kotb announced that fellow NBC veteran Craig Melvin would take over her role anchoring the 7-9 a.m. block alongside Guthrie.
