Bo Bichette's pinch homer in ninth propels Jays over Rangers
May 29 - Pinch hitter Bo Bichette clubbed a two-run, two-out home run in the ninth inning to lift the Toronto Blue Jays to a 2-0 win over the anemic Texas Rangers on Wednesday in the rubber game of a three-game series in Arlington, Texas.
Bichette's blast scored Ernie Clement, who opened the inning with a single off Jacob Webb (2-3), the fifth Texas pitcher. Clement advanced to second on a bunt by Nathan Lukes and was still there after a popout by pinch hitter Alejandro Kirk.
Bichette's game-winning round-tripper snapped a 22-inning scoreless drought for Toronto and was just the visitors' second hit with a runner in scoring position in 31 opportunities during the series. The Blue Jays won twice in the three-game set despite scoring just four total runs.
Brendon Little (3-0) was the beneficiary of Bichette's home run after striking out both batters he faced in the eighth inning. Jeff Hoffman struck out one in a perfect ninth inning to earn his 12th save of the year and the second in this series.
Toronto outhit the Rangers 8-1, with Addison Barger, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Nathan Lukes each collecting two hits.
Texas' only hit was a leadoff single in the first by Josh Smith. The Rangers have dropped eight of their past 10 games, and they scored just three runs in the series against Toronto.
Tyler Mahle returned to form for Texas, surrendering four hits and three walks over his six-inning stint while striking out five. Luke Jackson entered in the seventh and allowed a leadoff single to Lukes, who stole second but was stranded when Hoby Milner relieved for Texas and struck out Daulton Varsho.
Robert Garcia handled the eighth for the Rangers and allowed one hit while striking out two.
Rookie Paxton Schultz went the first 2 2/3 innings for the Blue Jays in his initial career start, allowing one hit and striking out four before being relieved by Eric Lauer.
Lauer produced 3 1/3 scoreless innings, walking two and fanning four. Braydon Fisher allowed a walk while striking out two for the Blue Jays in a 1 1/3-inning appearance before Little entered in the eighth.
Toronto managed just six runs over its six-game road trip after scoring only two in a three-game series in Tampa Bay last weekend.

The Mariners regained the lead in the top of the fourth after loading the bases with no outs. Rowdy Tellez drove in the first run of the inning with a sacrifice fly to deep right field, with Jorge Soler making the catch just in front of the short fence near the right field foul pole. The second run of the inning scored when Leody Taveres grounded out, bringing in Cal Raleigh from third to give the Mariners a 3-1 lead. The Angels matched it again in the bottom of the fourth on d'Arnaud's two-run homer, tying the game at 3-3. The Mariners again took the lead at 4-3 in the fifth, getting a two-out RBI triple from Julio Rodriguez. Angels center fielder Jo Adell lost his glove over the fence trying to make the catch. The Angels responded again in the bottom of the fifth, getting an RBI double from Taylor and an RBI single from Schanuel for a 5-4 edge. June 7 - Sonny Gray and three relievers combined on a shutout as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the visiting Los Angeles Dodgers 5-0 Friday night. Gray (7-1) worked 6 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits while striking out five and walking none. JoJo Romero, Phil Maton and Steven Matz took it from there, and Los Angeles finished 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position. Pedro Pages hit a two-run homer and Willson Contreras added a solo shot for the Cardinals. Brendan Donovan hit a two-run single, and Nolan Arenado went 3-for-4 with a run. Super regionals roundup: Oregon State rallies late, stuns Florida State in 10
June 7 - After rallying from a three-run deficit in the ninth inning, Oregon State upended Florida State 5-4 on AJ Singer's walk-off RBI single in the 10th inning in the opener of the Corvallis Super Regional on Friday night. With the bases loaded and no outs in the bottom of the 10th, Florida State got a forceout at the plate before Singer stepped up and delivered a single to center, scoring Gavin Turley to win the opener of the best-of-three series. Down to their last strike in the ninth, the Beavers got one run back on a wild pitch by reliever Joe Charles that scored Wilson Weber.
