Billy Joel Diagnosed with Brain Disorder, Cancels All Upcoming Tour Dates
The post Billy Joel Diagnosed with Brain Disorder, Cancels All Upcoming Tour Dates appeared first on Consequence.
Billy Joel has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH), a brain disorder that causes fluid to accumulate in the brain's ventricles, leading to issues with hearing, vision, and balance. The condition has been 'exacerbated' by recent live performances, and as a result, the 76-year-old musician has been forced to cancel all upcoming concerts scheduled through 2026.
'Under his doctor's instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period. He is grateful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health,' according to a statement released on Friday.
In his own words, Joel added, 'I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.'
Joel most recently performed in February, during which he notably fell on his back while attempting to throw his microphone to a stagehand. In March, he postponed four months' worth of tour dates for what was then described as an undisclosed medical condition requiring surgery.
The symptoms of NPH are reversible if caught early enough. The condition impacts 0.3% of adults between the age of 70 and 80 years old, with the primary symptoms being cognitive difficulties, trouble walking, and urinary incontinence, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Those diagnosed with the disorder may undergo surgery to implant a device that drains excess fluid.

Trump's Phone Lock Screen Is Going Viral Again — And It's Hilariously On-Brand
Donald Trump still hasn't changed his bizarre phone lock screen, and the internet is poking fun at how 'on-brand' it is for the president. The discourse began after photos of Trump holding his phone while leaving Air Force One on Friday started making the rounds on the internet over the weekend. If you look closely at the snapshots, you can see the president's phone lock screen in question — a picture of Trump himself doing his signature finger-pointing pose. Social media users on X, formerly Twitter, had a lot to say about the 'self-absorbed' power move. Another X user remarked that Trump is the 'G.O.A.T. at trolling' (using the acronym for 'greatest of all time') after the former reality TV star ruffled the internet's feathers with the screen image. This isn't the first time social media users have raised an eyebrow over Trump's phone lock screen, which was spotted displaying this same background in 2023 while he was golfing, BuzzFeed reports. Trump was criticized again for the image in 2024 after eagle-eyed social media users noticed his phone lock screen in a photo that appeared to be taken on Air Force One. 'Of course. Trump's cell phone lock screen background image is a picture of himself. Not his wife, not his children, not his grandchildren … himself,' an X user said at the time. Roy Wood Jr. knocks White House, CNN at Peabody Awards
Comedian Roy Wood Jr. on Sunday went after the White House and CNN at the Peabody Awards, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter. 'Last year's host was Kumail Nanjiani, so that is back-to-back years with a minority host. The Peabodys standing up for diversity, how about that?' Wood said during the event, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 'Which means in a few months, the White House will cut their funding and so they'll have John Mulaney, that's on y'all,' he added, according to the outlet, appearing to reference the Trump administration's recent attempts to target diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts. Back in January, President Trump issued an expansive executive order stating that 'illegal DEI and DEIA policies not only violate the text and spirit of our longstanding Federal civil-rights laws, they also undermine our national unity.' The president added that the policies 'deny, discredit, and undermine the traditional American values of hard work, excellence, and individual achievement in favor of an unlawful, corrosive, and pernicious identity-based spoils system.' According to its website, the Peabody Awards does not have any 'set criteria for judging the winners,' but 'recognize stories that illuminate social issues with depth and complexity as much as stories that entertain and inspire through their art or voice' in fields including streaming, television, digital media and radio. Wood also seemingly referenced the recently released book 'Original Sin: President Biden's Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again,' by his CNN colleague Jake Tapper and Axios's Alex Thompson, according to The Hollywood Reporter. 'It's hard to create stuff about terrible things without knowing all of the terrible things. It's hard — that's why I quit 'The Daily Show,' it was too much stress.' Wood, the host of CNN's 'Have I Got News For You,' said, per the report. 'I work at CNN now, I ain't got to do nothing but plug Jake Tapper's book.' The Hill has reached out to the White House and CNN for comment.
