Health post building constructed in Nepal with India's aid
Kathmandu: A newly constructed health post building in Naugad Rural Municipality, Darchula, built under the High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) with financial assistance from the Government of India, has been inaugurated.
The Earcoat Health Post built with Government of India's financial assistance at project cost of Nepali Rupees (NRs) 25.36 million under 'Nepal-India Development Cooperation' was inaugurated jointly on Saturday, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu announced.
It was inaugurated by Daljeet Singh Dhami, Chairman, Naugad Rural Municipality, Darchula and Avinash Kumar Singh, Counsellor, Embassy of India, Kathmandu.
"The Government of India's grant under 'Nepal-India Development Cooperation' was utilized for the construction of the health post building and other allied facilities. The project was taken up as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) and was implemented through Naugad Rural Municipality, Darchula," the release states.
Chairman, Naugad Rural Municipality, Darchula and other stakeholders appreciated the continued developmental support of the India in upliftment of the people of Nepal.
"The infrastructure created would be useful in providing health care facilities to locals residing in remote areas. By helping improve the delivery of healthcare services, the Health Post Building will also contribute to the overall development of the health sector in the far-western region of Nepal. This project is expected to benefit over 15,000 people," the release added.
As close neighbours, India and Nepal are engaged in wide-ranging and multi-sectoral cooperation. The implementation of HICDPs reflects the continued support of India in bolstering the efforts of Nepal in upliftment of its people by augmenting infrastructure in priority sectors.
HICDPs, earlier known as Small Development Projects, were launched on 7th November 2003 through bilateral agreement between Government of Nepal and Government of India regarding India's Grant Assistance for Implementation of Small Development Projects through Nepali entities working at local level.
There projects are an innovative and important segment of the Development Partnership with Nepal and are being implemented in the priority sectors of the Government of Nepal for creating infrastructure to enhance the quality of life at the grassroots level for the people of Nepal.

Monsoon arrives 15 days early in Nepal
Kathmandu: The monsoon climatic effects have entered Nepal 15 days earlier than normal timings as the nation is expected to have above-average rainfall this year. According to the weather bulletin of the Meteorological Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, monsoon clouds have spread across most districts of Koshi province and have caused light to moderate rainfall. Usually, the monsoon clouds start entering Nepal from June 13, but this time, they entered a fortnight earlier than usual. They typically last until the end of September. "This year, monsoon clouds entered the country 15 days before the normal onset date," the met office announced in the bulletin issued on Friday. Further adding, "It will take a few days for the monsoon clouds to reach the rest of the places. Impacts of western winds and local winds continued in the rest of the areas." The Met Office has predicted that Nepal is likely to witness above-normal monsoon rainfall this year. Nepal, on an annual basis during the monsoon season, faces disasters such as floods, landslides, and inundation, resulting in loss of lives and properties. Continuous downpour over three days last year resulted in widespread damage to properties as well as loss of about 200 lives due to the monsoon-induced disaster. As the Himalayan Nation is bracing for above average rainfall this year, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has predicted that around two million (19,97,731) people from 4,57145 households could be affected by monsoon-related disasters. According to the projection, the districts of Lumbini province will be affected the most in the monsoon, 5,23,656 people from 119,830 households will be affected. This is followed by the Bagmati--327, 376 people from 74,914 households, Gandaki--287,107 people from 65,699 households, Koshi 275,867 people from 63,127 households, Madhesh--228,687 people from 52,331 households, Sudurpaschim--227,730 people from 52,112 households, and Karnali province--127,308 people from 29,132 households.

India, Nepal strengthen health cooperation at WHA78 bilateral meeting in Geneva
Geneva: Reinforcing the strong health partnership between the two nations, India and Nepal held a significant bilateral meeting in Geneva on Tuesday on the sidelines of the 78th World Health Assembly (WHA78). The meeting, held between India's Health Secretary Punya Salila Srivastava and Nepal's Minister of Health and Population Pradip Paudel, focused on key health issues such as affordable drugs, communicable and non-communicable diseases (NCDs), digital health, and capacity building of the health workforce. "A bilateral meeting took place today on the sidelines of #WHA78 between Health Secretary, Govt of India, Punya Salila Srivastava and Pradip Paudel, Minister of Health and Population, Govt of Nepal. Bilateral issues on health such as ensuring affordable drugs, communicable diseases, NCDs, digital health and capacity building of health workforce were discussed," the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) stated in a post on X. "The meeting also reinforced the strong partnership and support shared by India and Nepal," The MoHFW further noted. Earlier, India was conferred with the certificate of eliminating Trachoma as a public health problem at the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva. Union Health Minister JP Nadda lauded this achievement and said it was a proud moment for the nation. "A proud moment for the nation at WHA78 (World Health Assembly), India has been conferred the Certificate of Elimination of Trachoma as a Public Health Problem by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General at WHO, at the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva," Nadda stated in a post on X. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually addressed the 78th Session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva from New Delhi on Tuesday, highlighting India's contributions to global health initiatives under the unifying theme of "One World for Health". PM Modi mentioned India's Ayushman Bharat scheme, the world's largest health insurance programme, which covers 580 million people and provides free treatment. He outlined three cores for the future of a healthy world - inclusion, integrated vision and collaboration.

Nepal's former PM Dahal sustains injuries in head after falling in bathroom
Kathmandu: Nepal's former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN-Maoist Centre Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' sustained injuries on his head after slipping and falling in the bathroom. "He has sustained injuries on his forehead. He is in normal condition," Secretary and daughter of the former PM, Ganga Dahal, confirmed to ANI over the phone. Following the incident, Prachanda was taken to Mediciti Hospital for treatment. As per the hospital sources, the former guerrilla leader has three stitches on his head. "He was brought to the Emergency at around midnight. He had sustained injuries on his forehead. He told us that he slipped in the bathroom and then got the injuries. A CT Scan also was performed which came out normal," a doctor from the Mediciti hospital where Dahal was taken after the incident told ANI seeking anonymity. Prachanda is currently recupreating at home. (ANI)
