Marcus Rashford faces Barcelona registration nightmare as boss Hansi Flick hits out
Marcus Rashford joined Barcelona from Manchester United in a season-long loan deal in July but faces a nervous wait to learn if he can make his La Liga debut this weekend Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has expressed his frustration as Barcelona's financial issues have stood in the way of the club registering Marcus Rashford for the new season. Rashford joined on loan from Manchester United in the summer, but Barca are required to comply with La Liga rules on wage budgets before he is able to feature in the competition. Rashford isn't the only player in the situation, which relates to strict financial rules which all La Liga clubs need to abide by. New goalkeeper Joan Garcia needs to be registered, while the same applies to fellow stopper Wojciech Szczesny after the Polish international signed new terms withh the club. Barca can cover some of the required budget through captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen's medical leave agreement, which frees up 80 percent of the German's wages for new registrations during his period out injured. They used a similar arrangement last summer to register Dani Olmo after Andreas Christensen was ruled out for a lengthy period, and announced plans to formally register Garcia in the light of Ter Stegen's situation. Even so, Flick has been left in a less than ideal situation ahead of Saturday's opener against Mallorca. 'For me, the situation, you can imagine I'm not happy about that. But I know the situation and I believe in the club,' the boss told reporters on Friday. 'We have to wait till tomorrow. It was the same situation last season. We will focus on what we can change and what is in our hands. The other things, I believe in the club.' Ter Stegen's decision came after an initial refusal from the Germany international, which saw him briefly stripped of the captaincy but things now appear to be more rosier between player and club. 'I think the most important thing is that everyone speaks together. Marc and the club, they spoke,' Flick added, 'The most important thing for me, for Marc and the club is that he comes back. He's shown for many years here that he's a fantastic goalkeeper and the important thing is that he comes back and is ready to play. We'll all help him, we're all on his side.' Rashford and Garcia have both played in pre-season despite the uncertainty over the league opener. Both started the Joan Gamper Trophy, Barca's final warm-up game ahead of the new season, with Rashford setting up a goal for Raphinha in a 5-0 victory over Como. The England international has been learning Spanish to help converse with his new team-mates, some of whom also speak Catalan, while those with a good command of English have also helped him settle in quickly. 'There are good people who are like a bridge. Frenkie [de Jong] speaks really good English, Jules [Kounde] speaks very good English, but they also have good Spanish because they've been here a few years," Rashford said on The Rest is Football podcast. 'But on the pitch, honestly it's easier than what I thought it would be. Also football overall, I know a lot of people say it, but it's a language in itself and it's easy to communicate through the general vibe on the pitch.'

easyJet, British Airways, Wizz Air and other passengers warned over severe delays in Spain
A strike is set to hit five airports in Spain between August 16 and August 31. Passengers flying with easyJet, British Airways, Wizz Air and other airlines could be among those affected by a fresh wave of airport strikes. The disruption is set to hit major Spanish holiday hotspots starting this weekend and continue for the next two weekends. Those jetting off to Barcelona, Málaga-Costa del Sol, Alicante-Elche, Palma de Mallorca and Tenerife Sur may face disruption due to industrial action called by the UGT union, which represents ground handling staff employed by the Menzies group. The strike is not a continuous walkout but is planned across the last three weekends of August 2025, timed to coincide with the peak summer travel season over the weekends of Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 August; Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August; and Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 August. The industrial action is targeted at Menzies Aviation Ibérica, the firm responsible for ground services for several international airlines across Spain. Other airlines that could be impacted include Emirates, Norwegian and American Airlines. Passengers travelling with the affected airlines on the strike dates should prepare for potential disruption. The strikes target crucial ground services, including passenger check-in, baggage handling, and aircraft assistance on the tarmac. Travellers may face longer queues and extended waiting times for their luggage, reports Bristol Live. Ivalyo Danailov, CEO of airline compensation specialists SkyRefund, said: "Clearly, travellers booked on flights with easyJet, Emirates, British Airways, or the other impacted carriers should check their flight status directly with the airline before heading to the airport for the most up-to-date information. "As the industrial action is by ground handling staff at Menzies Aviation Ibérica is a strike by by third-party ground handling staff it would generally be considered 'an extraordinary circumstance', meaning airlines may not be required to pay compensation for delays caused by such industrial action. "Nonetheless, passengers remain entitled to essential assistance, including meals, refreshments, communication, and accommodation if necessary during prolonged delays. We strongly advise all travellers to keep themselves informed about potential disruptions during these peak summer weekends."

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) UK banks have been ranked from best to worst based on their customer service, with digital providers coming out on top. The large-scale annual survey, published by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), scores banks on a range of services including online banking, overdrafts and in-store experience. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 3 Monzo has come out on top as the bank with the best overall customer service in the UK Credit: PA:Press Association Monzo has been crowned the number one bank for consumers in Britain and Northern Ireland. The popular online challenger, which operates entirely through a mobile app, currently has over 13million customers in the UK. Two other digital banks, Chase and Starling, were ranked in joint second for their customer service. Nationwide and Starling, meanwhile, ranked as the second and third best banks respectively for customer service in Northern Ireland. Royal Bank of Scotland was found to have the worst customer service out of the 17 personal current account providers that were ranked. 3 3 Out of the business current account providers, Monzo again came out on top, while Mettle, a new online bank for sole traders and companies of up to two owners, came in second. The Co-Operative Bank was ranked as Britain's worst business current account provider for customer service. Introduced by the CMA as part of its Retail Banking Order, the banking satisfaction survey is an annual review carried out by research companies Ipsos and BVA-BDRC. The survey asks around 1,000 customers of each of the 17 biggest personal current account providers in Britain and around 500 customers of each of the 12 biggest personal current account providers in Northern Ireland if they would recommend their provider to friends and family. The results represent the view of customers who took part in the survey, which was carried out between July 2024 and 2025. Major British bank with 5million customers could disappear after sale to Spanish rival is approved Banks must display the results of the survey prominently both online and in branches, so customers can see how their branch is faring. CMA director of markets Daniel Turnbull said: 'This data puts power into customers' hands. "Whether it's for a personal or business account, people can see how their bank fares against others – and stay or switch, according to their needs. "It also puts pressure on banks to listen to feedback and think about whether the services they provide are really working for customers.' Karen Tiltman, general manager for UK operations at Monzo, said topping the tables is 'a recognition of the hard work and dedication of everyone at Monzo'. SWITCH AND EARN Banks are always looking for ways to attract new customers, and many offer free cash if you make the switch. Right now, you can get up to £175 in cash and freebies by setting up a new account or switching. Barclays is offering £175 to new customers who switch to a Barclays Bank Account or Premier Current Account. You can apply through the Barclays app, and you must complete a full switch through the Current Account Switch Service (CASS) to get the offer. First Direct is also offering new customers £175 for switching to its 1st Account. NatWest, meanwhile, is offering a £125 switching incentive to new customers, and you can earn an additional £50 by opening a linked savings account. Deals like this come and go regularly so its worth moving quickly if you think it's for you, as they can be pulled at any time. But beware – you'll need to tick off a list of strict requirements before that free cash lands in your new bank account. Check the terms and conditions for the bank you're planning on switching to before moving over. How do I switch bank accounts? SWITCHING bank accounts is a simple process and can usually be done through the Current Account Switch Service (CASS). Dozens of high street banks and building societies are signed up - there's a full list on CASS' website. Under the switching service, swapping banks should take seven working days. You don't have to remember to move direct debits across when moving, as this is done for you. All you have to do is apply for the new account you want, and the new bank will tell your existing one you're moving. There are a few things you can do before switching though, including choosing your switch date and transferring any old bank statements to your new account. You should get in touch with your existing bank for any old statements. When switching current accounts, consider what other perks might come with joining a specific bank or building society. Some banks offer 0% overdrafts up to a certain limit, and others might offer better rates on savings accounts. And some banks offer free travel or mobile phone insurance with their current accounts - but these accounts might come with a monthly fee. Do you have a money problem that needs sorting?
