Three teenagers killed in Queensland crash while attempting to overtake truck
Two 19-year-old men and a 19-year-old woman died at the scene in Mackay, more than 800km north of Brisbane, after a crash involving multiple vehicles late on Friday night.
The teens had attempted to overtake a semi-trailer driving in the same direction while driving south on the Mackay Ring Round near Glenella, in the city's west, police said.
They collided with a Great Wall Cannon ute travelling in the opposite direction, driven by a 29-year-old man, police said.
Emergency services were called to the scene just after 10.40pm on Friday and the man was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
An Isuzu D-Max veered off the road to avoid the crash but its occupants were not injured, police said. The semi-trailer driver, 68, was also uninjured.
Queensland police said Mackay's forensic crash unit was investigating the collision.

Maine officials accused of covering up how adorable chocolate Labrador comfort dog was left to die in hot car
Maine officials still have not offered a full explanation for how an adorable emotional support dog was left to die in a state-owned vehicle back in May. Baxter, a three-year-old chocolate Labrador retriever, died on the afternoon of May 28 after he was found locked inside a Maine Department of Public Safety car. The vehicle was not running and had been parked at the Bangor Regional Communications Center. The temperature in Bangor that day reached a high of 82 degrees Fahrenheit. An independent investigation into Baxter's death started on June 18 and was opened by the Animal Welfare Program of the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry. No conclusion has been reached more than a month later, though the investigation remains active. Daily Mail has approached the department for comment. Baxter was a comfort dog with the Department of Public Safety and frequently helped relieve the stress felt by regional emergency dispatchers. He was also prominently featured on the department's social media pages, leading to the entire state growing extremely fond of him. That's why there's been sustained outrage over his death months after it happened, with Mainers still demanding answers and accountability. He started working as a comfort dog for emergency responders in Maine back in 2022 after he was trained by a nonprofit organization Nearly 7,000 people have signed a petition calling for a 'full, transparent investigation into Baxter's death.' 'We want to know what went wrong, who was responsible, and what's being done to make sure it never happens again. Baxter deserved better, and so do the service animals still working across the state,' the petition read. A separate petition, bearing the names of just over 300 people, has asked the US government to step in a protect all service animals under federal law. It advocates for a change in the law so that if a service animal dies, the person responsible can face 'manslaughter or negligent homicide' charges. The car Baxter was left in stopped running at some point, causing the air conditioning to shut off, spokesperson Shannon Moss has previously said. She added that it wasn't clear why the vehicle shut off. Baxter's handler was Brodie Hinckley, director of the Maine Department of Public Safety Communications, Moss also said previously. She would not confirm if Hinckley was the one who left Baxter in the car the day he died. It also remains unclear if there is or will be a criminal investigation into the dog's death. Daily Mail has approached Moss for further comment. Baxter trained with Hero Pups before beginning his career as the state's first official comfort dog in 2022. Laura Barker, founder of Hero Pups, a nonprofit that provides support dogs to first responders, described Baxter as being 'a great dog with a love for life.' 'During the training process we go through a lot of the obedience, the dogmanship stuff, the handling, the transportation,' she told WABI5. 'We can make recommendations, but once the dog leaves us we don't have any say on that matter anymore.' 'I'm hoping this will get people talking and really be more committed to the care of the dogs on a broader scope, not just doing a job,' she added. She set up the organization to support veterans and first responders after her son was wounded in Afghanistan. Baxter, who came from a litter that needed constant care due to his mother's health issues, was the first comfort dog the organization sent to Maine.

A van has ploughed through a car park wall with falling rubble hitting pedestrians on the ground leaving them in hospital. Five people were rushed to hospital, including two people in the van which smashed through a car park wall in Leeds city centre. The van was left dangling from the second floor of the building as emergency services were called to the scene at around 4.10pm today. Three members of the public were struck by rubble and have been taken to the hospital for their injuries to be assessed. Kane Rawdon, 31, was parked inside the car park, which has been shut off as the fire service assesses the damage to the building. He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: 'I was at work and got a text from a mate who knows I park here. I don't know if I'm going to be allowed through to get my car. 'Three members of the public were also taken to hospital for assessment after being struck by rubble. None of the injuries are thought to be life threatening. 'A police scene has been established and damage to the building is being assessed by colleagues from the fire service and structural engineers 'The vehicle involved will be recovered.' A spokesperson for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: 'Ambulance resources responded to an incident at The Markets car park in central Leeds on Wednesday afternoon and five patients were conveyed to Leeds General Infirmary.'

WWE founder Vince McMahon ‘caused multi-car crash on day Hulk Hogan died'
Vince McMahon, the former WWE chief executive, is accused of causing a multi-car pile-up on the day Hulk Hogan died, according to state police. Mr McMahon destroyed his Bentley in the crash, which took place a few hours before TMZ reported the death of the wrestling star. Hogan, who made his name in Mr McMahon's World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) company, died following a cardiac arrest last Thursday. Mr McMahon, who is separated from his wife, Linda, President Donald Trump's education secretary, was cited for reckless driving and following too closely. The crash took place last Thursday morning on the Merritt Parkway in Westport, Connecticut, state police said. No one was injured. Mr McMahon was released on a $500 bond and ordered to appear in Stamford Superior Court on Aug 26. Representatives for Mr McMahon are yet to comment. Photos taken appear to show heavy damage to the front end of Mr McMahon's 2024 Bentley Continental GT Speed. The police report said Mr McMahon was driving northbound on the parkway, also known as Route 15, when he rear-ended the BMW and crashed into a wooden guardrail. A car travelling in the southbound lanes struck debris from the crash that flew over the guardrail, state police said. There were no passengers in the cars and all three drivers were wearing their seat belts, police said. The air bags in Mr McMahon's car and the BMW deployed. Mr McMahon stepped down as WWE's chief executive in 2022 amid a company investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against him. He also resigned as executive chairman of the board of directors of TKO Group Holdings, the parent company of WWE, last year, a day after a former employee filed a sexual abuse lawsuit against him. Mr McMahon denies the allegations, the lawsuit is still pending. Following Hogan's death, Mr McMahon said in a post on X: 'The world lost a treasure today. Hulk Hogan was the greatest WWE Superstar of ALL TIME, someone who was loved and admired around the world. 'He was a trailblazer, the first performer who transitioned from being a wrestling star into a global phenomenon.'
