Kavitha is a 'BJP arrow; Madhuyashki Goud

Hyderabad, June 2 (UNI) Telangana Congress Campaign Committee Chairman and former MP Madhuyashki Goud launched a scathing attack on BRS MLC K. Kavitha, alleging deep-rooted corruption and political collusion with the BJP.
Speaking to reporters at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Monday, Goud alleged that Kavitha acted like a "lady mafia don" and described her as "an arrow dropped by the BJP". He accused her of being involved in various scams, and claimed she was seeking BJP's support to escape legal action in these cases.
He further alleged that Kavitha misused the Bathukamma cultural platform for political mileage and to protect illicit funds. Goud called for a probe into the functioning of her organisation, Telangana Jagruthi, claiming it was used as a front for financial dealings, including collecting money from firms like Phoenix.
He also targeted Kavitha's father, BRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR), calling him 'the ghost of Telangana' and alleging that the KCR family amassed wealth under the guise of the Telangana movement. He questioned the source of Kavitha's personal wealth and claimed Jagruthi was never handed over to BCs, despite her vocal support for backward classes.
Accusing Kavitha of working under the directions of BJP leaders Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, Goud alleged that the so-called "BRS Week" only benefited the BJP. He also claimed that KCR and his family, including Minister K T Rama Rao, held investments abroad and that KTR's foreign trips were meant to manage these assets.
Referring to the Congress party's role in the formation of Telangana, Goud stated that if Sonia Gandhi had not granted statehood, KCR and his family would not have had political relevance today. He further alleged KCR's involvement in the liquor scam, claiming discussions around it took place at Pragathi Bhavan.

Delhi Court permits Tihar jail to file response to Tahawwur Rana's application to speak with family

New Delhi, June 4 (UNI) A Delhi court on Wednesday permitted Tihar Jail authorities to file their response to the application of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana who has sought permission to speak to his family members. Special Judge Chander Jit Singh after the hearing permitted Tihar Jail Authorities to file their response to the application of Rana and adjourned the matter for June 9. National Investigation Agency filed its reply on the application of Rana and also supplied its copy to the Jail Authorities on the direction of the Court. Tahawwur Rana, 64, a Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman, is allegedly a close associate of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks main conspirator David Coleman Headley alias Daood Gilani, a US citizen. The court had earlier also dismissed the application of Rana seeking to talk with his family members. A group of 10 Pakistani terrorists went on a rampage in Mumbai in November 2008, carrying out a coordinated attack on a railway station, two luxury hotels and a Jewish centre, after they sneaked into Mumbai using the sea route in the Arabian Sea. About 166 people were killed due in this assault. Rana is accused of conspiring with Headley and operatives of designated terrorist organisations to carry out the three-day terror siege of India's financial capital. The US Supreme Court last month dismissed the review petition of Rana, a key accused in the 2008 terror attacks, against his extradition and cleared the way for his transfer to Indian custody. Census 2027 is BJP's plan to reduce Tamil Nadu's parliamentary seats: Stalin

After officials of the Union government on Wednesday said that the long-delayed census will be carried out in two phases before March 1, 2027, Tamil Nadu chief minister and DMK president MK Stalin said that the Constitution of India mandates that the delimitation exercise must follow the first census after 2026. 'The BJP has now delayed the census to 2027, making their plan clear to reduce Tamil Nadu's parliamentary representation. I had warned about this. It is now unfolding,' Stalin said. He further said that Tamil Nadu's main opposition AIADMK led by Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS) 'is not just silent but complicit in this betrayal. It's now clear that he has surrendered to Delhi's domination.' He made the remarks while referring to the Dravidian party joining hands with the BJP in April, 19 months after they split, to fight the 2026 assembly elections together. In March, Stalin led a joint action committee (JAC) comprising the chief ministers of four states and political parties from three others calling for a fair delimitation. They said that the delimitation based on exercise would penalise southern states like them that had brought the population under control. The JAC urged the Centre to extend the freeze on the delimitation on parliamentary constituencies by another 25 years, upping the ante on a contentious exercise that can widen the chasm between India's northern and southern regions. The meeting had representatives from seven states, including chief ministers of Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Punjab and Kerala, and the deputy chief minister of Karnataka. Bharat Rashtra Samithi working chief KT Rama Rao also attended the meeting while Biju Janata Dal chief Naveen Patnaik joined virtually. 'The people of Tamil Nadu are united as one in their demand for a fair Delimitation,' Stalin said late on Wednesday. 'We need clear answers from the Union government.' The next meeting of the JAC will be held in Hyderabad. At the heart of the spiralling controversy is the issue of delimitation – originally scheduled for 2026 – which redefines the number of representatives a state sends to the Lok Sabha on the basis of population. A 2019 analysis by Milan Vaishnaw and Jamie Hintson of Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, projected that such an exercise could see the overall strength of the Lok Sabha rising to 848, with Uttar Pradesh alone seeing its tally increase from the current 80 to 143 by 2026. In contrast, Tamil Nadu, which currently sends 39 representatives, could see the number rise to just 49. Kerala, which sends 20, would see no change at all. The 42nd amendment to the Constitution in 1976 froze delimitation based on the 1971 census, to promote family planning and population control. Then, in 2001, the 84th Amendment to the Constitution extended the freeze until 2026. When the delimitation happened in 2008, the total number of seats remained the same but the constituency boundaries were redrawn.

Karnataka home minister denies BJPcharge of police bias in Dakshina Kannada

Bengaluru: Home minister G Parameshwara Wednesday said the state govt will operationalise the Anti-Communal Force (ACF) in coastal districts within the next 10 days, amid escalating political tensions over alleged police action against members of pro-Hindu organisations. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "There may be some resistance to it, but the govt has a responsibility to maintain peace and necessary measures will be taken in this regard," Parameshwara said. The proposed ACF is expected to operate primarily in sensitive districts such as Dakshina Kannada and Udupi, which witnessed frequent communal flare-ups. The initiative forms part of the Congress govt's broader efforts to maintain law and order in the coastal belt. The announcement comes even as BJP accused police in Dakshina Kannada of unfairly targeting those associated with Hindu groups. Dismissing the charges, Parameshwara assured that police were acting within legal boundaries and ordinary citizens had no reason to be alarmed. "There is no reason for anyone to worry. Only those working against the law and people might have to worry. We will not allow anything that will trouble the common people," he stated. BJP had raised concerns over reports that police had identified and visited the homes of Hindu organisation members at night, allegedly as part of a move to extern some of them. The home minister clarified that these operations were part of routine law enforcement based on intelligence inputs. "Police may have information about those involved in communal activities in that region. So they have decided to increase the night rounds, and are visiting houses to instill confidence and also to verify about elements involved in communal activities," Parameshwara added. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "There is no reason for common people to worry and we will ensure that no problem is caused to them. No one will be targeted," he added. On concerns about political influence on policing, the minister reaffirmed the autonomy of law enforcement agencies. "Neither I nor the chief minister will give instructions to police on an hourly or a day-to-day basis. The officials decide. We may inquire about the action taken when any incident happens, but it is officials who decide and take action locally based on the situation," he said.
