Oman, Iraq explore ways to enhance judicial, legal relations

Muscat: Sayyid Mohammed Sultan Al Busaidi, Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Judiciary Council, on Wednesday received at his office Dr. Faiq Zidan, President of the Supreme Judicial Council of Iraq, and his accompanying delegation.
The visit of the Iraqi official aims at strengthening cooperation between the judicial institutions of the two countries.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to develop judicial and legal relations, expand areas of joint cooperation, exchange expertise, and activate training and technical programs—measures that would positively impact the performance of the justice system and enhance its efficiency.
The two sides also reviewed a number of topics of mutual interest, most notably modernising court procedures, developing legal training mechanisms, and improving the quality of judicial services while expediting litigation processes.
The Iraqi delegation was briefed on key aspects of Oman's experience in developing its judicial work environment, particularly in areas related to digital transformation and leveraging technology to serve justice—ensuring improved litigant experiences and higher institutional efficiency.
Al Busaidi emphasised that this visit represents an important step toward strengthening judicial relations between Oman and Iraq, noting that the exchange of knowledge and expertise is a fundamental pillar for advancing judicial work and building effective strategic partnerships.

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik today issued two Royal decrees reading as follows: Royal decree No. 53/2025 ratifies an agreement between the government of the Sultanate of Oman and the government of the Russian Federation on mutual waiving of visas, signed in Moscow on 22 April 2025. Article (1) ratifies the aforementioned agreement in accordance with the version attached to this decree. Article (2) says that this Royal decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and enforced from its date of issue. Royal Decree No. 52/2025 cancels "Oman Centre for Governance and Sustainability". Article (1) states that "Oman Centre for Governance and Sustainability" shall be cancelled. Article (2) stipulates that the allocations, origins, rights, obligations and assets of "Oman Centre for Governance and Sustainability" shall be transferred to the Financial Services Authority. Article (3) states that employees of "Oman Centre for Governance and Sustainability" shall be transferred to the Financial Services Authority, along with their respective financial grades. Article (4) cancels all that contradicts this decree or contravenes its provisions.

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik exchanged greetings over a phone call with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar on the occasion of the advent of Eid Al Adha. During the telephonic call, His Majesty the Sultan expressed his best wishes of good health, welfare and happiness to Sheikh Tamim. His Majesty also wished the people of Qatar further accomplishments and development, wishing all Muslims all over the world constant stability and progress. On his turn, Sheikh Tamim expressed his best wishes of good health and wellbeing to His Majesty the Sultan and for the return of this and similar occasions for many years to come. Meanwhile, His Majesty the Sultan also exchanged greetings over a telephonic call with President Masoud Pezeshkian of the Islamic Republic of Iran. During this call, His Majesty expressed his heartfelt sentiments and best wishes to President Pezeshkian, praying to Allah the Almighty for the return of this blessed occasion on President Pezeshkian and the people of his country while they realize aspirations of further progress and prosperity. On his turn, President Masoud Pezeshkian expressed his sincere greetings to His Majesty the Sultan, wishing His Majesty and the Omani peoples continued happiness, with enduring joy for all Islamic nations.
