An Award-Winning, First-of-Its-Kind Honda Motorcycle Is Finally Coming to Market
From cruisers to ADVs, street bikes to touring motos — not to mention tech like e-clutch and DCT — Honda has long been a leader in many corners of the two-wheeled world.
Which is why it's kind of surprising that the red brand has yet to release a true electric motorcycle.
Sure, there was the Wuyang-Honda E-Vo a couple months ago, but that one comes with so many caveats it doesn't really count.
Regardless, it appears Honda is finally getting serious about this growing category.
The brand recently announced not only that its long-simmering EV Fun Concept won a big award but also that it's coming to life.
Awash in accolades
I don't want to say Honda is being coy about the EV Fun Concept, which itself is no secret, having been showcased at EICMA last fall.
However, the press release sandwiched that news between an announcement that the Fastport eQuad micromobility vehicle had won a Red Dot Best of the Best award and that the concept movie for the Honda V3 motorcycle engine had also been honored.
Both of those kudos are notable — as is the scooter-like EV Urban Concept also garnering Red Dot recognition — but for serious two-wheeled enthusiasts, the big news concerns the electric sportbike.
Especially because of this loaded sentence: 'The production model based on this concept model will be a naked sports model equivalent to a mid-sized (ICE) motorcycle and is scheduled to go on sale before the end of the current fiscal year (ending March 31, 2026) as the first Honda electric sports model equipped with a fixed battery.'
Hype(d) machine
Adding fuel to this fire is a teaser video Honda dropped a couple weeks ago, one that appears to show an updated version of the Concept and telling viewers to 'be the wind' — and also to stay tuned for more news on September 2.
What jumps out in the 15-second clip? Among other things, a new TFT display, a revised triple clamp and a busier left-hand switchgear.
Those features round out a great-looking streetfighter Honda itself touts for 'quiet yet overwhelming acceleration,' a 'slim, easy-to-manage chassis package' and 'a new emotional experience that is very different to internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles.'
One downer, as RideApart points out, is a claimed 62 miles of range from the fixed battery.
That's a bummer considering the brand is already deploying its Mobile Power Pack in all sorts of vehicles.
A swappable power source would not only enable more miles but also be appealing to apartment dwellers who may lack a garage in which to charge the bike overnight.
On that front, electric-only brands such as Maven — not to mention, believe it or not, Harley-Davidson — could eat Honda's lunch with removable batteries.
That being said, we're talking about Honda and a bike that just won a major design award.
Given the brand's pedigree, production capability, dealer network and general chutzpah, I'd be shocked if what actually rolls out early next year isn't pretty damn impressive.

The Acura RSX Is Back—But It's No Sports Car
Nearly 25 years ago, the Acura RSX debuted as a successor to the Integra, and it very much continued in that car's vein—a fancier version of the Honda Civic. Now, the RSX is back as something completely different, an electric crossover with a fastback roof. Acura is debuting the new RSX Prototype during Monterey Car Week, and it previews a soon-arriving EV. Unlike the ZDX , which uses GM's Ultium electric-car architecture, the RSX is a homegrown effort. This will be the first production car on Honda's new EV platform—which debuted with the Honda 0 Series concepts —and Acura plans to build it on the same Marysville, Ohio, line as the gas-powered Integra. (Side note: Imagine telling someone 20 years ago that the RSX and Integra would exist alongside each other, and that one would be an SUV.) Acura calls this a "prototype," but typically, Honda's prototypes are very close to the eventual production models. So, this is pretty much what the new RSX will look like, though we're not sure if the yellow paint will be an option. Mechanically, the RSX will have dual-motor all-wheel drive, double wishbone front suspension, and Brembo-branded brakes. The prototype sits on 21-inch wheels, and Acura says the wide rear-end is inspired by the second-generation NSX. Photo by: Acura The RSX will also be the first Honda product to run the automaker's new infotainment system, ASIMO OS, named for its beloved humanoid robot. Acura considers this a "software-defined" vehicle, with an OS that learns user preferences, and a system that can handle over-the-air software updates. The RSX will also get a Tesla-style North American Charging Standard (NACS) charging port, and it has vehicle-to-load capabilities, so you can essentially use it as a generator of sorts. Acura was pretty mum on details, though. We don't know what sort of performance the RSX will have, battery size, range, or anything, really. We also don't know what it will cost, but since it's smaller than the ZDX, we have to assume it'll be cheaper. Acura's RSX prototype is a taste of what's to come with Honda Zero
Acura is bringing back the RSX sedan as a premium, dramatic-looking, all-wheel drive electric crossover that's also the first model engineered in-house on Honda's new global EV Platform. This is the same platform that will eventually underpin the automaker's Zero series, which is expected to go into production next year along with the RSX. So suffice it to say, the resurrected RSX is a big deal for Acura and its parent company. The RSX Prototype is making its global debut this week at two Monterey Car Week events: The Quail Motorsports Gathering and Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. Acura says it will assemble the RSX at Honda's EV Hub in Ohio, on same production line as Acura Integra, starting in the second half of 2026. When it arrives, the all-electric SUV will help kick off what Honda anticipates will be a new era of software-defined vehicles. That's because the RSK will debut the proprietary, in-house-developed Asimo operating system that Honda announced CES earlier this year. Asimo will control the vehicle's core functions and receive updates over the air, so it theoretically can improve over time. Asimo will also underpin the automaker's new Honda Zero vehicles, with the first being the Honda 0 SUV. So far, Acura's only EV in the market is the ZDX, which, like Honda's Prologue, is built on GM's Ultium EV platform. The RSX Prototype is based on the Performance EV concept that was revealed at last year's Monterey Car Week. The Prototype retains a lot of the sharp angles that gave the concept an almost boat-like appearance. But while it certainly isn't as wild-looking as the concept, the Prototype's front end is assertive and in your face, with slit-like daytime running lights that offset the Acura logo in the middle. Acura says that the full-width rear taillight are meant as a homage to the second generation NSX, complemented by a new 'ACURA' logo splashed across the tailgate. (In other NSX news, Honda has said to expect a new 'NSX-type' electric sports car in the works for 2027 or 2028.) Acura isn't releasing any of the key specs yet, which makes sense since this is still just a prototype. So we'll have to wait a little longer to learn about the range, battery size, acceleration, and price. The Prototype rides on multi-spoke 21-inch rims, with the bright red calipers of the large front Brembo brakes peaking through. A coupe-like silhouette and a fastback roofline is sure to be an indication of impressive performance capabilities. In another first for Acura and Honda, the RSX Prototype can serve as a mobile energy unit that can power other appliances, including a whole house. Acura Unveils RSX Prototype At Monterey Car Week
Acura is back at Monterey Car Week and as it has several times in recent years it's using the opportunity to show the world where it's going with its next-generation of vehicles. This started in 2022 with the Precision EV concept which previewed the design direction of its first electric vehicle, the ZDX a year later. 2024 brought us the Performance EV concept and now this week we have our first real look at the new RSX prototype. Honda and Acura have a pattern of showing multiple stages of concepts, those that we would more traditionally think of as design concepts and what they like to call prototypes. The concepts are a bit more out there and the public prototypes are for all intents and purposes the production models, sometimes shown without mirrors or with camera mirrors and other slight detail changes. But when they call it a prototype, it's basically what you'll be able to buy within six to 12 months. Such is the case with this week's RSX prototype. Earlier this year, Acura released a teaser rear three-quarter image of the RSX in a camouflage wrap, but we can now see the whole thing. Like last year's concept, this is a so-called SUV coupe, meaning it's a crossover with a fastback roofline. Acura has recently begun reviving old, unused nameplates, starting with the Integra. Since the original Integras of the 1990s were derivatives of the Civic, it made perfect sense to bring back that name on a reworked Civic hatchback. When the fourth-generation Integra arrived in 2001, Acura was well into using alphabetic names exclusively and the model was rebranded as RSX. Acura's first EV, a midsize GM-built crossover wagon launched in 2024 with the name ZDX which had originally been used on an early 2010s crossover coupe. Now we have the new RSX which is nothing like an Integra and this is the vehicle that probably should have been called ZDX. Peculiar naming choices aside, most of the themes we saw last year on the Performance EV concept have been brought forward to production with the usual updates. The concept had a more minimalist greenhouse which looks cool in the design workshop, but would severely limit passenger space. The 'prototype' makes that volume substantially larger while maintaining a similarly sleek profile. The sharply angled side vents also carry over but again, are slightly reduced in scope, no longer extending into the front fenders. The belt-line sweeps up at the rear fenders and the body color wraps over to meet the black roof. There are now of course door handles, but as with many EVs, they retract flush into the surrounding door panels. The rear light bar of the prototype is very similar to the concept and the vertical corner vents are actually even a bit taller than before. The front fascia theme is brought to production mostly intact from the concept apart from having a bit less of a forward leaning shark nose effect. The prototype is a bit more vertical. We haven't yet seen an interior for either the concept or the prototype so that will remain a mystery for a few more weeks or months. The RSX is the first production model built on Honda's new in-house developed EV platform. The platform will be shared with Honda's 0 series models coming in 2026 including the SUV and Saloon and all will be built at the company's Marysville, Ohio assembly plant along with the Honda Accord. While the platform isn't being used for the Afeela 1 EV from the Sony Honda Mobility joint venture, many of the components including the motors and batteries are shared. The Afeela 1 is being built at another nearby Honda plant in East Liberty, Ohio. The cast aluminum battery cases are being produced at Honda's Anna, Ohio engine plant and the cells will come from a Honda-LG Energy Solution joint venture in Jeffersonville, Ohio. Together these four facilities comprise Honda's EV hub in Ohio. The Honda and Acura branded cars use a new zonal electrical/electronic architecture that centralizes much of the compute capability along with a Honda developed software platform called Asimo OS. This makes these EVs, Honda's first software defined vehicles and they will support full over-the-air updates for all systems. Among the features planned to be included in some or all of these models is a so-called level 3 driver assist system that allows the driver to hands-off and eyes-off under certain operating conditions. While drivers won't be able to take a nap, they will be able to read or watch a video when the system is operational. Production of the RSX is due to begin late in the fourth quarter this year with vehicles hitting dealers in early 2026. A full production debut should happen before the end of the year, perhaps at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November with performance and pricing available closer to launch.
