EU lawmakers demand emergency meeting to sanction Israel
Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) have written to the EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, demanding an emergency meeting to sanction Israel. In the letter signed by over 60 MEPs, the lawmakers also demanded sanctions against the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation and individuals within the organisation. Belgian MEP Marc Botenga shared the letter on X with comments, 'No more silence, no more complicity.' 'We are writing to you today to demand immediate action is taken given the appalling humanitarian situation in Gaza and the continued Israeli attacks on Palestinians at aid distribution sites which have so far resulted in the deaths of over 1,000 people,' the MEPs wrote. They said the recent EU-Israel aid agreement delivered 'no tangible change' in conditions on the ground. The MEPs also demanded that the EU top diplomat lobby member states to implement an arms embargo on Israel.

Israeli soldiers arrested in Belgium after war crimes complaint by rights groups
Belgian federal police have arrested two Israeli soldiers facing accusations of war crimes in Gaza following a complaint by two rights groups. A statement by the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) said the pair were in the country to attend a music festival and that legal proceedings were ongoing. "The suspects were identified and arrested with a clear show of force at the Tomorrowland festival in Boom," HRF said on Monday. "After being taken into custody, they were formally interrogated and released. The Belgian Federal Prosecutor's Office has confirmed that a criminal investigation is now underway." The complaint was filed last week by HRF and the Global Legal Action Network (Glan). "It signals that Belgium has recognised its jurisdiction under international law and is treating the allegations with the seriousness they deserve. "At a time when far too many governments remain silent, this action sends a clear message: credible evidence of international crimes must be met with legal response - not political indifference."
