Elon Musk now goes by ‘Gorklon Rust' on X: Here's what it could mean
Elon Musk - the world's richest man - has once again changed his name on X (the social media platform he owns, formerly known as Twitter). The new name on the billionaire's profile spells 'gorklon rust', leading to speculation about its meaning.
The new username is the third one used by Musk in the last six months after "Kekius Maximus" in December 2024 and "Harry Bolz" in February this year.
While the billionaire didn't give details on why he changed his name again or what it means, one possible reason could be the induction of a lightweight version of Grok to power the X recommendation algorithm.
The first part of the name, "Gorklon Rust", seems to be inspired by xAI's chatbot Grok, while the 'klon' could hint at 'clone', making the whole term mean "Grok clone". Meanwhile, the 'rust' part of the phrase could be hinting towards the Rust programming language that xAI uses in its tech stack.
There's also a meme coin linked to the name Gork on the Solana blockchain, suggesting this could also be a ploy by the billionaire to boost the cryptocurrency's visibility.
Recently, Musk also tagged the handle 'Gork' in one of his posts, which is different from the official handle of the Grok chatbot. The new handle has been around since at least early 2025 and seems to be a more humorous spin on Grok—offering irreverent replies and engaging in banter.
Meanwhile, the word Grok itself is inspired by Musk's fascination with the science fiction book The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In a product announcement earlier this year, Musk explained that Grok means to fully and profoundly understand something. So far, there have been three generations of foundation models powering Grok, and Musk has announced xAI's plans to launch the new Grok 3.5 model this week.

ChatGPT down? What are the other AI chatbots users can turn to? List inside
OpenAI's chatbot ChatGPT has been facing a global outage for more than five hours, with users on social media sharing pictures of error messages and waiting for the issue to be resolved. However, OpenAI, while acknowledging the complaints, has not provided a timeline for the resolution of the issues. Thousands of users, especially in India and the US, have been affected by the outage. As of 5 pm, more than 600 users in India were still facing problems using ChatGPT, according to Down Detector. Of these, 88 per cent problems pertained to the core functionality of the AI chatbot, 8 per cent faced issues on the app and 4 per cent with the API. While the number of complaints has seen a slight decrease, hundreds of users are still affected. Created by big tech heavyweight Google, Gemini can not just perform the primary functions of AI chatbots, but also be of assistance in integrating information with other Google apps on the users' phones. It can facilitate integrations with Google Docs and Gmail, while retrieving information from other applications like Drive, Maps and more. The chatbot has recently added a new feature of scheduling actions to its resources. The chatbot Grok, especially Grok 3, has been developed by Elon Musk's xAI. Grok is different from traditional AI models in that it uses and analyses information from the web as well as social media platform X, also owned by Musk. Grok can smoothly carry out interactions with any form of content on X, like user profiles, posts, uploaded files etc. Apart from generating real-time responses after searching the web and X for a query, Grok can also process images, analyse files uploaded by users and generate visuals. Copilot AI, developed by Microsoft, uses the same models as ChatGPT, given Microsoft's investment in OpenAI. Therefore, the user experience on the chatbot will resemble that of ChatGPT. However, Microsoft could have an added advantage for those who use its products or apps, due to the ease in integration with the chatbot. Copilot is built into Microsoft Edge, implying that the users can also ask the chatbot questions on the webpage they are browsing. Claude, developed by Anthropic, has features similar to ChatGPT and can help professionals in that it can assist in allowing users to code small apps running inside the chatbot. The Washington Post conducted a reading test among five AI bots, with Claude emerging the ultimate winner, and was the only chatbot that did not 'hallucinate'. Claude is also known for its writing style, which tends to be more natural and human than other chatbots. While Perplexity is mostly seen as a replacement for traditional search engines, it provided latest and accurate information. It also provided the users with more sources, while also allowing them to decide where they want their information to come from. The chatbot can be asked to search academic papers, websites, Reddit etc depending on what suits the query.

ChatGPT, the popular AI chatbot by OpenAI, went down for thousands of users across the globe on Tuesday, June 10. Many found themselves unable to access its services due to sudden outages. While the website itself was still opening, users found that the chatbot wasn't responding to their queries and instead showed an error message. The issue didn't just affect ChatGPT, it also impacted Sora, OpenAI's text-to-video platform. OpenAI acknowledged the problem on its official status page, saying, 'Some users are experiencing elevated error rates and latency across the listed service. We are continuing to investigate this issue." But, the company has not yet explained the reason behind the sudden disruption. 'We are continuing to investigate the issue for the listed services," OpenAI added. According to DownDetector, which tracks real-time online outages, the issues began around 2:45 PM IST. Users took to X (formerly Twitter) to share their frustrations, jokes and confusion about the outage. Many posted screenshots of error messages while others joked about being lost without AI assistance. Another joked, 'ChatGPT is down. Productivity is gone LOL. I forgot how to work without AI." A person shared a screenshot of a random query they were asking the chatbot and wrote, 'Y'all, I was using ChatGPT for this stupid question, but apparently, it's down. Switching to Google now." Elon Musk's xAI hiring engineers to build Grok app for Windows and Mac, says ‘Can't live in the browser forever'
Elon Musk-owned artificial intelligence (AI) company xAI is hiring engineers to build Grok app for both Windows and Mac laptops. Igor Babuschkin – co-founder and an engineer at xAI reposted a tweet by Sulaiman Khan Ghori - member of technical staff at the company that says: 'Hiring engineers at @xai to help build our Mac product. If you have a track record of writing high-performance Swift and AppKit applications, would love to chat!'. 'Join us to work on the X/Grok macOS app,' Babuschkin wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter). Elon Musk on hiring engineers at xAI Tesla CEO and xAI owner Elon Musk reshared Babuschkin's post. Grok gets vision capabilities In April, the company released new update to its Grok chatbot, enabling it to 'see' the world around it. This new feature allows the chatbot to process and interpret visual inputs, marking a significant leap in AI-human interaction. The enhanced Grok chatbot uses advanced computer vision technology to analyse images and videos, providing context-aware responses. For instance, users can upload a photo of a product, and Grok can identify it, suggest uses, or even recommend similar items. This capability bridges the gap between text-based AI and real-world applications, making Grok more versatile and intuitive. AI Masterclass for Students. Upskill Young Ones Today!– Join Now
