According to Sacnilk, the film had a modest but steady performance at the box office in its first weekend. It began its box office run with an estimated Rs 30 lakh on Friday and earned an estimated Rs 50 lakh on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, the film saw numbers dip to Rs 15 lakh, and decreased further on Tuesday, to earn Rs 14 lakh. This brings the total five-day collection to about Rs 1.59 crore.
'Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyan', has been facing tough competition at the box office, due to its weak storyline and performances.
Released alongside Rajkummar Rao's 'Maalik' and the Hollywood blockbuster 'Superman', the film struggled the most among the three. 'Superman' drew a large multiplex audience, while 'Maalik' came in a close second. It has also been facing competition from last week's releases.
ETimes gave the film a rating of 3 stars out of 5, and an excerpt from the ETimes review reads, 'Tanveer Mir's cinematography lends stunning visual appeal, capturing both the grandeur of Mussoorie and the charm of Europe. Vishal Mishra's soothing music further elevates the film. Despite narrative shortcomings, what works is the lead couple. Shanaya Kapoor makes an impressive debut, bringing a strong screen presence and handling emotional scenes with ease.
Vikrant Massey once again proves his mettle with a nuanced performance across both light and intense moments. Zain Khan Durrani also delivers a fine act, despite limited screen time.'
