WrestleMania 42 location: WWE event returns to Las Vegas for second straight year

WrestleMania is headed back to Sin City. WWE will hold WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas at Allegiant Stadium for the second consecutive year, the company announced. It will be held April 18-19, with WrestleMania weekend events like SmackDown, the Hall of Fame Ceremony, NXT Stand and Deliver, and Raw After WrestleMania also taking place in the city. Advertisement Wrestling's grandest event returns to Las Vegas after WrestleMania 41 took place there this year on April 19-20. This will be the second time in WWE history that WrestleMania will take place at the same venue in back-to-back years. The first instance was in 1988 and 1989 when WrestleMania IV and WrestleMania V was held at the Atlantic City Convention Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The announcement comes weeks after WWE decided to move the host city for the 2026 edition of the event. In February, The Rock revealed during an episode of SmackDown that WrestleMania 42 would take place at the Caesars Superdome April 11-12. However, that changed three months later. In a joint statement with TKO Group Holdings, Inc., owner of WWE, The Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation said WrestleMania 42 wouldn't take place in Louisiana, and instead the city would get the event in the future and New Orleans would get Money in the Bank 2026. No reason was given for why WWE changed plans. Digital screens display WrestleMania logos during the Undisputed WWE Championship match between John Cena and Cody Rhodes during WrestleMania 41 at Allegiant Stadium on April 20, 2025 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Why did WWE choose Las Vegas for WrestleMania 42? WWE did not specify why it opted to run it back in the same arena, but the idea of bringing WrestleMania back to Las Vegas was likely too enticing to pass up. Advertisement Not long after the news about the location being moved, reported Las Vegas was the leading contender to host. While it wasn't an ideal decision for most fans since WrestleMania just took place there and the show has traditionally gone around the U.S., it made sense why the move was made. WrestleMania 42 was a major success for WWE with the largest gate for any event in its history, with more than 124,000 fans for both nights. The event also broke merchandise, sponsorship and hospitality experiences records. WWE also was granted upwards of $4.24 million in tax credits for having the event in the city, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Plus, it can't be forgotten that TKO Group Holdings Inc., owner of WWE, also owns UFC, which is based in Las Vegas. Ownership's familiarity with the location and how to maximize profits from it is an easy move. The Las Vegas Strip was the ideal place to hold multiple events within close proximity of each other, rather than having to jump around different parts of the city. Mix in the fact the city is a top tourist destination, fans will definitely take over, generating millions for Las Vegas. WrestleMania 41 was too big of a success to not try again. WrestleMania Las Vegas history With WrestleMania returning to Allegiant Stadium, it will be the third time the event takes place in Las Vegas. Besides WrestleMania 41 in 2025, the first time it happened in the city was in 1993 when WrestleMania 9 took place at Caesar's Palace. It was a notable event since it was the first time WWE held the event outdoors. Advertisement For most the early years, WrestleMania was held in arenas, but it has taken place in stadiums since WrestleMania 23 in 2007 – with the exception of WrestleMania 36 due to COVID-19. This will mark the third WWE event Allegiant Stadium has hosted in its short history. SummerSlam 2021 took place at the indoor stadium and was the first professional wrestling event to happen there. The attendance of that event was 51,326. While it hasn't been confirmed, T-Mobile Arena is likely to host the shows part of the weekend. SmackDown, NXT Stand and Deliver and Raw After WrestleMania took place at the arena, and the Hall of Fame ceremony was at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas hotel. WrestleMania 41 was headlined as John Cena's final one as 2025 is his final year of in-ring competition. He beat Cody Rhodes in the main event to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship and become a record 17-time champion. WWE Announces WrestleMania 42 For Las Vegas At WWE Money In The Bank

WWE announced WrestleMania 42 for Las Vegas. At WWE Money in the Bank, WWE announced that WrestleMania 42 will return to Las Vegas, Nev. amid a surprising change in plans after the event was originally planned for New Orleans, La. Fans in the building gave the announcement a loud and mixed reaction in Inglewood, Calif. The event will take place on April 18 and April 19, 2026. WWE shocked the wrestling world on last month as reports surfaced that WrestleMania 42 would not take place in New Orleans, La. as had already been announced by The Rock on the February 21 broadcast of SmackDown. This episode also featured the beginning of Rock's now infamous 'I want your soul' storyline that culminated in a John Cena heel turn. Rock was not seen or heard from again during WrestleMania season, much to the chagrin of WWE's fanbase. 'Despite an announcement earlier this year, WrestleMania will not take place in New Orleans in 2026," read a report on Thursday by Wrestlenomics. New Orleans has hosted two WrestleManias as the Mercedes-Benz SuperDome was the site of WrestleMania 30 and WrestleMania 34. New Orleans is expected to host a future WrestleMania, though it is not known when as of this writing. Triple H made things official by confirming WrestleMania 42 will not be in New Orleans, and as a consolation gift, the city will be hosting next year's WWE Money in the Bank. WWE's Louisiana refund has led to speculation of a Saudi Arabia, London or even Mexico as possible replacements. But in the fallout from WWE's surprising decision, Las Vegas has emerged as the strongest frontrunner after WWE did its largest gate ever in Sin City for this year's WrestleMania 41. 'The new plan, while not officially announced, is to run at Allegiant Stadium and the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas like this year, and move the shows back one week, with WrestleMania on April 18 and 19,' said Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, whose reporting is notoriously hit-or-miss. 'Those in Las Vegas confirmed that they have reserved the stadium for shows on the two days and that the plan is to run the city.' WWE's record-breaking WrestleMania in Las Vegas, featuring some of the highiest ticket prices in WWE history, includes: While no official statement has been made by WWE, the promotion seems to feel there is more money to be made in Las Vegas on its biggest show of the year. If it ain't broke, break a promise with New Orleans Sports Foundation.

Cloudy skies can't dim joy as thousands fill nation's capital for World Pride parade

WASHINGTON -- Gray skies and drizzle gave way to sunshine, multicolored flags and celebrations as the nation's capital held the World Pride parade Saturday. Tens of thousands of people participated in parades and other festivities, in defiance of what activists say is an unprecedented assault on the LGBTQ+ community that challenges the rights many have fought for over the years. A rainbow flag the length of three football fields flowed through the streets, carried by 500 members of the Gay Men's Chorus of Washington, D.C., to kick off the parade. Behind them, people waved Pride flags and flags representing the transgender, asexual and bisexual communities from atop a bus. Singer-songwriter and actor Reneé Rapp laughed and blew kisses from the back of a pickup truck draped with a transgender flag while Laverne Cox, a transgender actress and activist known for her role in Netflix's 'Orange is the New Black,' waved from an open convertible. 'Pride means us looking out for each other no matter what,' she declared to the crowd as the convertible rolled to a stop. 'We know how to be there for each other.' Many LGBTQ+ travelers have expressed concerns or decided to skip World Pride due to anxieties about safety, border policies and a hostile political climate that they say hearkens back to another time. But that did not keep international travelers and other participants away, with groups visible from Iran, Namibia, Kenya and Russia. Along the parade route, hundreds gathered outside the National City Christian Church as rainbow flags and balloons lined its steps and columns. A child with rainbow face paint blew bubbles at the base of the steps while Whitney Houston's 'I Wanna Dance with Somebody' blared from loudspeakers.' 'D.C. is already one of the biggest cities in the country for celebrating Pride,' said Cheo White, 33, from Annapolis, Maryland, 'But we are all collectively more united and turning out more because of what's happening in the White House.' Many have said the gathering has taken on a new meaning amid the Trump administration's aggressive policies against protections for transgender Americans and diversity, equity and inclusion programs. White's partner, Nick Kerver, 26, who was visiting from Toledo, Ohio, said Pride has 'always been a political tool' but has taken on more importance this year amid mounting threats to the LGBTQ+ community, especially transgender and nonbinary Americans.' 'It feels more important than ever,' Kerver said while wearing a rainbow hat, sunglasses and a T-shirt. 'But we also have to get involved in our local communities too.' David Begler, a 58-year-old gay man from Philadelphia, expressed disappointment that many international travelers felt unsafe visiting D.C. for World Pride but said he appreciates its presence in the city during this political climate. 'It's the perfect time to have World Pride in D.C.,' Begler said. 'We need it right now. I want us to send a message to the White House to focus on uplifting each other instead of dividing.' Stay DeRoux, 36, usually plans a day trip to D.C. Pride from her home in Fredericksburg, Virginia. But this year, she and her wife, Deenie DeRoux, planned a full weekend. ''This is a really big year,' Stay DeRoux said. 'There's been a lot of turmoil. So it's an amazing thing to be among allies, among people who love because we've experienced so much hate on a daily basis.' For the day, the idea of threats and opposition took a backseat to the celebration. Streets were closed, but filled with floats, and impromptu parties broke out with music and food in streets adjoining the parade route. Johnny Cervantes Jr., dressed in a black suit and top hat, headed to a grandstand at a church themed float to marry his partner of 28 years, Freddie Lutz, owner of Freddie's Beach Bar and Restaurant in Arlington, Virginia. Events culminate tomorrow with a rally and protest March Sunday and a giant street party and concert covering a multi-block stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue. 'This is World Pride in the best city in the world,' Mayor Muriel Bowser declared as she walked the parade hand-in-hand with her daughter, Miranda.
