CONSOLE owners risk being locked out of a hit video game forever – with just days left to dodge the closure.
A popular title snapped up by millions of players is due to be deleted from online console stores this week, before being totally shut down on select machines later in the year.

Players of survival game Rust have been warned to check their consoles as soon as possible.
The game came out as an "early access" title back in 2013 before its official release in 2018.
But game-makers say the "old-gen" version of Rust that was created for the PS4 and Xbox one is due to be taken down from online stores imminently
That means from May 29, 2025, the game will no longer be available to download for new players.
And the game will become totally unplayable after "the final wipe", which is scheduled for later this year.
That means even owners of the game will be locked out.
"Starting May 29, 2025, the old-gen version of the game will no longer be available in platform stores," said Rust official Pedro Silva.
"If you already own it, you can keep playing until the final wipe, which will wrap up in October.
"We're planning to make that one something special."
TIME TO UPGRADE?
To keep playing, you'll need to have a next-gen console.

And you'll also need to upgrade to the newer version of the game, which was made for the Xbox Series X/S or the PS5 (recently price-hiked).
Fortunately for owners of newer consoles, you'll be able to get the actual game upgrade for free.
That means you won't need to pay out any extra money (beyond what you've paid for the pricier console).
Sadly game bosses haven't confirmed exactly when the release date for this upgrade will arrive – but it won't be far off.

However, it won't be out in time for the May 29 store shutdown.
"Players will have until the end of October to transition to the new and improved version of Rust Console Edition, which is expected to launch sometime this summer," Silva explained.
"Just to be clear, the release date is not May 29, 2025.
"We still need a bit more time. More will be announced in the future. Thank you for your support!"

This means that new players who want to try the game won't be able to until the next-gen version comes out.
And existing Rust players will need to upgrade before the older-generation title is killed forever.
GONE RUSTY?
Multiplayer survival game Rust first came out on consoles in 2021, just three years after it fully launched on PC.
The title tasks players with surviving in a brutal and unforgiving wilderness – where you need to gather and steal materials, as well as avoiding starvation, death, and other players.

Rust landed to mixed reviews but sold more than 12.5 million copies, many of which are loyal fans of the game.
Gamers keen to keep playing the title on consoles will have to upgrade their versions.
And game-makers at Double Eleven have teased what the new PS5 and Xbox Series X/S releases will look like.
"The game will be available in three editions: Standard, Deluxe, and Ultimate," Double Eleven, a British studio responsible for the console version, said in a statement.

It's the world's first Micro RGB, a new premium TV technology that Samsung says brings "exceptional" colour accuracy. This is made possible thanks to a micro-scale RGB LED backlight with an ultra-fine pattern behind the panel. It also uses AI processing to boost both picture and sound. There's Glare Free technology too, designed to reduce reflections from bright light conditions that can sometimes make it hard to make out the picture. "Micro RGB achieves unprecedented precision in the control of micrometer-sized RGB LEDs, raising the bar for color accuracy and contrast in consumer displays," said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team of the Visual Display (VD) Business at Samsung Electronics. "With this launch, we're setting the standard in the large-sized, ultra-premium TV market and reinforcing our commitment to next-generation display innovation." The TV isn't on sale beyond South Korea yet. But there are plans to release it in the US next. And there will be a global roll out with "a variety of sizes to meet customer needs", Samsung said.

New hot-air balloon that doubles as pub to take flight in UK in days
Scroll down to find out how to get involved SKY HIGH New hot-air balloon that doubles as pub to take flight in UK in days Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THREE in 10 Brits are holding back from doing what they want to do in life due to fear of judgement from others. A study of 2,000 adults found 51 per cent wish their life was more spontaneous while 25 per cent feel 'stuck' in their daily routine. As a result, 67 per cent admit they do the same thing every August Bank Holiday, despite 46 per cent wishing they could be more spontaneous during the extended weekend. The research was commissioned by Beavertown, which is encouraging Brits to do something different this bank holiday weekend, by inviting them to apply to a competition to take a flight in The Skulloon Tavern, a one-of-a-kind hot air balloon that also doubles as a pub. It will take flight on Saturday, August 23, and give Brits a chance to visit the pub in a way that is a little more out there. Tom Rainsford, spokesperson for Beavertown said: 'We are a nation of people holding ourselves back. 'But we believe life gets a lot more interesting when you stick your neck out, embrace spontaneity, and dare to do things differently.' It also emerged nearly two thirds (64 per cent) claimed to have not done the one thing they've always dreamed of ‒ because they always play it safe. With 65 per cent labelling themselves as 'risk-averse'. Other reasons included a fear of failure (30 per cent) or simply not wanting to step out of their comfort zone (21 per cent). Other words respondents used to describe themselves included cautious (57 per cent), reserved (48 per cent), and predictable (25 per cent). As a result, 22 per cent have stuck to the same routine for a long period of time, according to data. And while 36 per cent describe their daily routine as comforting and 16 per cent find it fulfilling, 51 per cent wish they could be more spontaneous. Tom Rainsford added: 'Too often, we stick to what we know out of habit or convenience but exciting things rarely happen when we play it safe.' 'That's why we're shaking things up this bank holiday - with almost a third of the UK listing a trip to the pub as their non-negotiable bank holiday plan, we thought we'd give you the chance to enjoy a pint a bit further north of your usual beer garden.' 'Why settle for ground-level plans when you can take things to a whole new height?'
