Julie Chrisley's prison life as a ‘card shark' revealed days after freedom bid update

Independent26-03-2025

Even behind bars, Julie Chrisley appears to be making friends and showing off her card-playing skills, at least according to her former fellow inmate, Sharita Mona.
The reality TV star, 52, is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence after she and her husband of nearly 30 years, Todd, 55, were convicted of tax evasion and bank fraud in 2022. Todd was sentenced to 12 years.
Last September, Julie was re-sentenced following an attempt to have her term reduced to no more than five years. A federal judge, however, rejected her bid, and upheld the seven-year sentence.
The couple's youngest daughter, Savannah Chrisley, 27, spoke with Mona about prison life on a new episode of her Unlocked podcast.
Mona, who served eight months at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, with Julie, recalled seeing the reality star for the first time.
'I was sitting in the telephone line ... and I saw her. She was moving quick; your mom walks fast around that camp,' she laughed. 'She had her head down; she wasn't really talking to anybody. She smiled, but you could tell she was in deep thought. She was thinking about getting to where she had to go, and a few people spoke to her, but she was by herself and really quiet.'
It wasn't until later, when Julie started playing cards, that she came into her own. 'She was a little card shark,' Mona teased.
It wasn't until a few weeks into Chrisley's time in prison that the two women started working together and connected, Mona recounted.
She said they would often speak about real estate and entrepreneurship, with Julie encouraging Mona to enter the career field after her release. At one point, Chrisley taught real estate classes in prison, and with her help, Mona flipped a house and earned $60,000 days after she was released.
Mona described her friend's mindset as being heads-down.
'She was like, 'I'm not gonna think about this. I'm just gonna do what I gotta do.' She was worried about y'all. She loves you all. You are her world,' Mona told Savannah.
Savannah responded: 'There was never a time where I was like, 'Where's mom? Is she going to be at school today?' She was always there. Always. Her kids are her number one focus.'
Mona noted: 'That came across from the time that I met her,' and said Julie had pictures of all of her children displayed on the wall of her room.
Besides Savannah, Julie and Todd also share a daughter Lindsie, 35, and sons Kyle, 33; Chase, 28; and Grayson, 18.

Triple Coronation Street exit shock as end of an era is confirmed

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video For 25 years Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver) has been a fixture in Coronation Street. The popular character has been through a huge amount of drama in that time, including raising two sons, being mother hen to numerous lodgers at number 11, enjoying/enduring a rivalry with Gail Platt (Helen Worth) and being married to a killer. But with Sue Cleaver having taken the decision to 'Embrace change, look for new adventures and live fearlessly' by moving on from the soap, Eileen's exit is fast approaching. Her final storyline saw the return of Katy Cavanagh as Eileen's sister Julie Carp. It was soon revealed that Julie was dealing with a terminal illness and didn't have long to live, and viewers have recently seen the sad scenes where Eileen returned to her sister with a cup of tea while they were on a day out to a beauty spot, only to find that Julie had died while she was gone. Julie's funeral brought another returnee in the form of Ryan Thomas as Eileen's son Jason. And in upcoming episodes we'll see Jason make Eileen a tempting offer. He's been living in Thailand since he left Weatherfield, and he suggests that Eileen could come back with him and be his business partner. Eileen's immediate reaction is that her partner, George Shuttleworth (Tony Maudsley), would never want to move to Thailand. Eileen has been struggling with her feelings for George recently, at one moment not sure she loves him but the next moment saying that she wants her future to be with him. Julie certainly thought that Eileen was selling herself short by settling for a relationship with George. But it seems that her decision about whether to accept Jason's offer hinges on George and he surprises her, saying that he's prepared to move his life to the other side of the world to be with her. In fact he's booked them a holiday to Thailand – leaving the very next day – so they can see if life there would suit them. Eileen's other son, Todd (Gareth Pierce) has recently embarked on a relationship with a man called Theo (James Cartwright), who's been struggling with his sexuality. Theo's daughter Millie has been staying at Eileen's briefly, and when she has to go home she tells Theo she wants him to move beck in with her and her mum. More Trending Theo replies that he wants to be with Todd and can't live a lie any more. His words give Eileen cause to reflect again about her feelings for George and whether she's settling for a relationship she's not really feeling. Brainteaser asks players to guess the 'poor man's' song choice -answer leaves them baffled

A brainteaser shared to Reddit asks players to think outside the box when coming up with a solution - and consider the 'simple' option as sometimes this can be the correct answer. A brainteaser that's been dubbed as 'easy to solve but isn't' has left people scratching their heads. The puzzle encourages participants to think creatively and consider the 'simple' solution, which can often be the correct one. The riddle was shared on the Reddit thread titled 'What are some of the best brainteasers in the world?' ‌ It begins: "A poor man walks into a bar and starts talking with a really rich man. The poor man says, 'You know, I know every song in the world. I bet all your fortune and possessions that I can find a song with any name you want'. ‌ "The rich man, chuckling, accepts and challenges him to find a song featuring his daughter's full name, Julie-Monique-Alexandrina. "A few minutes later, the poor man exits the bar, with the rich man's wallet, car(s) key(s), clothes, etc. He won his bet. How?" One user speculated that the answer could be Mambo No. 5 by Lou Bega, given its inclusion of numerous female names such as Angela, Pamela, Sandra, Rita, Monica, Erica, Tina, Sandra, Mary, and Jessica, reports the Mirror. Echoing this guess, another user chimed in: "I was thinking Mambo No 5. That song has quite a few lady names." Meanwhile, others were stumped and pleaded with the original poster to reveal the solution. ‌ The quizmaster eventually shared the correct answer, stating simply: "He sang Happy Birthday." However, this isn't the only mind-boggler that has left people scratching their heads recently. A question once posed by Google to its job applicants has sparked a lively debate on social media. TikTok creator Tanya Zakowich, known as @pinkpencilmath on social media, revealed that Google used to challenge its job candidates with a brainteaser during interviews - and wouldn't hire anyone who couldn't solve it. ‌ Yet, in 2013, Google is thought to have phased out these questions, with the former head of Google human resources telling the New York Times they couldn't "predict anything" and were mainly designed to "make the interviewer feel smart". In her video, she shared: "If you don't know the prisoner hat riddle, you're going to love this one. It's a super classic brainteaser that was commonly asked in job interviews at Google." ‌ She then proceeded to explain the riddle: "There were four prisoners on a staircase all facing the same direction. A brick wall separates prisoner 4 from the rest." She explained that prisoner 1 can see prisoners 2 and 3, while prisoner 2 can only see prisoner 3 and prisoners 3 and 4 cannot see anyone. "All four prisoners are wearing hats. They are told there are only two black hats and white white hats. However, they do not know the colour of the hats they are personally wearing. ‌ "The prisoners were told to shout out the colour of the hat they're wearing as soon as they know what colour it is." With this information, she poses the question: "Who is the first person to shout out correctly - and why?" Laying down the guidelines, the prisoners are not allowed to turn around to see each other, move in any other formation, or remove their own hats. Did you manage to figure it out? Check the correct answer.
