Kon Knueppel scores 19 points, leads Hornets to summer league semifinals

Rookie Kon Knueppel stuffed the stat sheet on Thursday, leading the Charlotte Hornets to a spot in the semifinals of the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, Nevada. Knueppel produced 19 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals in a 106-81 victory over the San Antonio Spurs at the Thomas & Mack Center. He went 7 of 13 from the field, including 3 of 8 from 3-point range, and was a plus-26 in 29 minutes on the court. The fourth pick scored 11 points in the first half to help build a 56-34 lead at the intermission for the Hornets (4-0). He was steady for the team as a scorer and facilitator and even had a nifty behind-the-back pass after forcing a turnover in the backcourt. Knueppel is averaging 13.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.3 steals on 41.9% shooting from the field in three appearances. He missed one game on the second night of a back-to-back to manage a prior ankle injury suffered during the predraft process. The soon-to-be 20-year-old has had a productive run this summer, showcasing himself at a high level in each appearance. He is a part of a stacked rookie class for the Hornets and has helped create plenty of anticipation heading into next season. The Hornets qualified for the summer league playoffs as one of the top four teams through the first four games of competition. They will play an opponent to be determined in the semifinals on Saturday at 4 p.m. or 6 p.m. EDT on ESPN.
