AR Murugadoss reflects on Sikandar's failure: 'I couldn't execute it well'

Acclaimed filmmaker A.R. Murugadoss has opened up about the emotional weight of his recent Bollywood project 'Sikandar', admitting the film did not turn out the way he had hoped. In a candid interview with Velaipechu Voice, the director spoke honestly about the challenges he faced and the personal toll it took on him. 'The story was about a king who never truly valued his wife. Only after her death, when her organs are donated to three people, does he try to fulfil what he couldn't do for her. It was deeply emotional, but I couldn't execute it well,' Murugadoss said. Known for his success with 'Ghajini' — the 2008 hit starring Aamir Khan — Murugadoss admitted that making a film from an original script like 'Sikandar' proved far more difficult. 'I could pull off Ghajini because it was a remake. With Sikandar, that wasn't the case,' he reflected. Despite the disappointment, the director is not turning his back on Hindi cinema. He expressed hope for a return under the right circumstances. 'I will definitely return to Hindi cinema if I find my comfort zone. But when audiences don't connect with my thinking, it affects me deeply,' he noted. Murugadoss remains a respected figure in Indian cinema, particularly in the Tamil industry, where he has delivered multiple hits. His honest comments have sparked conversation online, with many praising his openness about failure and creative struggle. The director will next be helming 'Madharaasi'. It is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language psychological action thriller written and directed by A.R. Murugadoss. Backed by Sri Lakshmi Movies, the film marks Murugadoss's first collaboration with actor Sivakarthikeyan. The cast includes Sivakarthikeyan in the lead, joined by Vidyut Jammwal, Biju Menon, Vikranth, Shabeer Kallarakkal, and Rukmini Vasanth. Supporting roles are played by Prem Kumar, Sanjay, and Sachana Namidass. Initially announced in September 2023 under the working titles SKxARM and SK23, the project quickly gained attention as it brought together two major names in Tamil cinema for the first time. The film's music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander, with cinematography by Sudeep Elamon and editing by A. Sreekar Prasad. Madharaasi is set for theatrical release on 5 September 2025.

Pb teacher celebrates linguistic diversity through children's songs

Ludhiana: In a heartwarming initiative that blends education with cultural harmony, a schoolteacher from Punjab has found a unique way to nurture linguistic respect among children. Karamjit Singh Grewal, who teaches at Govt Primary School, Khedi Jhamedi, has composed nearly 10 children's songs in as many Indian languages, an effort aimed at fostering diversity and tolerance. Influenced by his background in scouting and having friends from different parts of the country, Grewal believes language can play a powerful role in building bonds across communities. "The idea struck me that children should learn simple songs in different languages so that they feel connected with people from diverse cultural backgrounds," he says. In an age when urban youth often lean toward learning languages like Spanish or French, Grewal feels there is equal value in embracing vast linguistic richness closer home. "When we hear someone from another state speaking Punjabi, it feels heartwarming. They experience the same joy when we try speaking their language," he says, stressing the emotional connection language creates. So far, Grewal has successfully sung songs for children in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Dogri, Bengali, Bodo, Assamese, Hindi, apart from mother-tongue Punjabi. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Last Chance: 80% Off This Artisan's Retirement Jewelry Sale The Heritage Journal Read More Undo "Languages are not just about words, they are windows to different cultures. That's why the subjects of the songs vary and are rooted in the traditions and stories of the regions they represent," he says. What makes this initiative particularly impactful is the way it creates bridges among children, even when comprehension is limited. "Children might not understand every word, but when they sing these songs, they would appreciate other languages as well," Grewal says. Grewal plans to expand the project further. His goal is to create videos of children's songs in 24 languages, ensuring that young learners across the country can access and enjoy them. "This is my small contribution to nurturing a generation that not only respects but also celebrates the cultural and linguistic differences," he said. Industry insideRs credit Rajinikanth's unmatched charisma and dominance in the South Indian market as the driving force. Meanwhile, War 2 is relying on word-of-mouth to stabilize collections. While it may see a second wind, trade experts suggest it will be difficult for the film to keep pace with Coolie's box office juggernaut. What's next at the box office? With Sunday evening and night collections yet to be counted, Coolie is almost certain to cross the Rs 200 crore India net mark before the weekend closes. If it continues its streak, it could even challenge Leo's lifetime record of Rs 400 crore in India and Rs 605 crore globally. War 2 still has a chance to recover ground, but for now, the Rajinikanth-starrer is firmly leading the Independence Day box office race.
