Deadline day looms to have your say in shaping the future of Sligo

Home > Regionals > Sligo > News Sligo County Council have issued a reminder to members of the public that the deadline for pre-draft public consultation in relation to a proposed new plan for Sligo town and its environs is this Friday, August 22 The consultation, which has been running since July 9, seeks to answer questions to issues regarding the towns accessibility and how to make it more walkable; what kind of housing Sligo needs; where should community recreation facilities be improved; what are the best ways to tackle vacancy and dereliction in the town centre and how can local businesses and town centre vitality be supported? Urging members of the public to engage with the process, Sligo County Council Cathaoirleach Donal Gilroy said, 'The proposed Urban Area Plan will be more than a planning document—it will be a blueprint for a thriving, inclusive, and sustainable Sligo as our commercial and residential hub. As Cathaoirleach, I believe this is our opportunity to shape a town that reflects the values and ambitions of our people. From climate resilience to heritage protection, from housing to sustainable mobility, this plan will guide how we live, work, and grow together. I urge every resident to take part in this important conversation and help us build the Sligo of tomorrow.' Those sentiments were echoed by Frank Moylan, Senior Planner, who said, 'This is your chance to help shape the future of your town. We want to know what's working, what needs to change, and what kind of town you want Sligo to become.'
