Foo Fighters‘ tour rider for Jakarta includes special permission to swear, smoke and drink on stage
The band recently announced their first show in the Indonesian capital since 1996 will take place at Carnaval Ancol on October 2 and they have requested and been granted special permission to curse, drink and smoke during the show but won't touch on 'sensitive topics'.
According to Consequence Sound, Ravel Junardy, the promoter of the show and the CEO of Ravel Entertainment said: 'They've asked for the freedom to curse on stage, as well as permission to smoke and drink during the show. As long as it doesn't touch on sensitive topics like race, religion, or Indonesian cultural values, we'll allow it.'
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed that Josh Freese – the drummer who replaced the late Taylor Hawkins after his sudden death in 2022 – had been abruptly fired from the band with no warning.
Josh shared on Instagram earlier this month: 'The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they've decided 'to go in a different direction with their drummer.'
"No reason was given. :( Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band.
'In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I've never been let go from a band, so while I'm not angry – just a bit shocked and disappointed.
'But as most of you know I've always worked freelance and bounced between bands so, I'm fine. Stay tuned for my 'Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters' list.'

Chop chop to cooking classes in Bali
Like a ninja or samurai, Kadek chops with two knives in one hand, mincing snapper meat, shredded coconut, palm sugar, coconut cream, eggs and umpteen herbs and spices until it forms into a paste that he then presses on to a wooden skewer. 'That's one sate lilit,' Kadek says, showing us his work. 'When there is a ceremony in my village, the minimum we make is 500. For a wedding, at least 2000. It takes a lot of time, so everyone turns up at three in the morning and starts chopping together, making a very loud noise. If you hear the chopping and you're not there, it means you haven't been invited or you slept in. We start preparing the food so early because by eight in the morning, the wedding has already started. Later on in the day, it gets too hot.' This is just one of the fascinating anecdotes and cultural insights Kadek, a hospitality veteran, shares with guests at the Will Meyrick Experience, a cooking class held in the Balinese home of Will Meyrick, the owner of Will Street restaurant, an Asian restaurant in Perth. 'Normally I don't teach these classes,' says Will, who has another five restaurants in Bali, including Mamasan, Hujan Locale and Billy Ho. 'I've lived in Bali for 22 years but at the end of the day, my knowledge about Balinese cuisine pales in comparison to what Kadek and many of the other people I work with know. I've just opened up my home for the classes because we have this big pavilion for cooking outside and a garden where we grow all our herbs and spices.' Classes begin with a tour of Will's garden, where participants pick some of the ingredients they will later use: Thai lemongrass, holy basil, turmeric, ginger, star fruit and papaya. They are then washed by staff while participants make a beeline for the pavilion, where the cooking begins. Today we do a condensed version of the class, knocking out fish satay, fluffy white rice and lawar salad. Described by Will as 'the caesar salad of Bali', it's made of curry paste, snake beans, fern tips, jackfruit, shrimp paste and a spice mix. In the full version of the class, which takes three hours including lunch, participants also learn how to make sambal stir-fry prawns and water spinach. Will also offers a street food version of the class where the focus is on popular Indonesian snacks like bakso chicken ball soup and siomay beef dumplings. But the best part of the class isn't the cooking; it's eating it all for lunch, on a large table under the pavilion with a cheeky midday glass or two of white wine with Will and Kadek while listening to more stories — like the time a car rammed through Kadek's garage while he was preparing satay sticks, only narrowly missing him; and how Will had to go back to square one and wash greasy pans at work when he sought refuge for his family in Perth during the pandemic. 'These classes are not about making money. We barely break even,' he says. 'They're about offering people who enjoy our restaurants and our hospitality a behind-the-scenes look at our operations, and the know-how to cook Balinese food like a pro once they return home.'
