'Just having fun, man': Tom Cruise's extremely awkward answer to Father's Day question goes viral amid estrangement from lookalike daughter Suri Noelle

Sky News AU21-05-2025

Tom Cruise was left visibly rattled when asked a question about Father's Day during a red carpet appearance, prompting renewed speculation about his strained relationship with daughter Suri.
The 62-year-old Hollywood icon appeared taken aback during an interview at the New York premiere of Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning on Monday night.
"Father's Day is just around the corner," an E! News reporter asked the star.
"What would an ideal Father's Day look like for you?"
Cruise hesitated, replying: "You know …" before trailing off and glancing into the distance.
Eventually, he said: "Just having fun, man."
The Top Gun actor then bizarrely added: "Making movies, big adventures, having a great time."
Cruise is a father of three: Isabella 'Bella' Jane, 32, and Connor, 30, whom he adopted with ex-wife Nicole Kidman, and 19-year-old Suri, his daughter with third ex-wife Katie Holmes.
The Hollywood icon has remained notoriously private about his children in recent years, particularly Suri, from whom he has reportedly been estranged since his 2012 split from Holmes.
It's understood Holmes, 46, for divorce in order "to protect Suri from Scientology", as per a 2013 deposition.
Suri, who bears a striking resemblance to Cruise, grew up in New York City with her mother and graduated from LaGuardia High School in June 2024.
At the ceremony, the teen announced her new name in the official program as 'Suri Noelle', which is both hers and Katie's middle name.
"I'm proud of my daughter. Of course, I will miss the close proximity, but I'm really proud of her and I'm happy," Holmes told Town & Country in August 2024.
"I remember being this age, this time of beginnings. It's exciting to learn about yourself, and I loved that time, so it makes me happy to think about it like that."
While Cruise is understood to remain close to his older children, they largely keep out of the spotlight.
Connor, a BBQ enthusiast and avid fisherman, lives in Clearwater, Florida, and has been seen attending events from time to time with his father.
Isabella, meanwhile, is based in South London with her husband Max Parker and works as an artist and graphic designer.
Both also share half-sisters Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 14- Kidman's daughters with her husband, Aussie country singer Keith Urban.
Kidman recently faced backlash online for seemingly excluding Bella and Connor from a Mother's Day Instagram tribute.
The Babygirl actress posted a photo of herself with her late mother Janelle and her two younger daughters during a family visit to Uluru.
"My mother and my daughters in Uluru, beautiful memories… always. Happy Mother's Day," she wrote.
But fans were quick to point out the omission.
"Doesn't she mean 'with 2 of my daughters'… what happened to Bella? (and Connor?)" one user commented.
"@nicolekidman how about the other ones?" another added.
Other fans quickly came to the 56-year-old actress' defence.
"None of your business, this is a celebratory, sincere post, buzz off," one user said, while another claimed Bella and Connor are "disconnected" from their mother due to being "indoctrinated Scientologists".

Sydney Sweeney reacts to her bathwater soap going viral

Sydney Sweeney is having "fun" watching her bathwater soap go viral. The 27-year-old actress - who is known for her roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus - has collaborated with soap brand Dr. Squatch to create a limited-edition bar called Bathwater Bliss and is just enjoying seeing the whole thing going viral. She told E! News: "I think it's more fun to see everyone else talk about it. "I pitched it!" She said in a press release: 'When your fans start asking for your bathwater, you can either ignore it, or turn it into a bar of Dr. Squatch soap,' Sweeney said in a press release. Sydney first partnered with Dr. Squatch for a commercial promoting the brand's Natural Body Wash, where she appeared in a bubble bath. Now, the company has repurposed the suds from that ad into a new product. Sydney's soap bar features exfoliating sand and pine bark extract, combined with a splash of the actress' bathwater. According to the brand's statement, the scent 'channels two of the best places on Earth: the great outdoors and Sydney Sweeney's bathtub'. At the time, the Anyone But You star admitted that the whole project was a "weird" one but insisted that was all in the "best way possible" and that she wanted fans to recognise the "realities" of traditional personal care products as opposed to natural options. 'It's weird in the best way, and I love that we created something that's not just unforgettable, it actually smells incredible and delivers like every other Dr. Squatch product I love. 'Hopefully, this helps guys wake up to the realities of conventional personal care products and pushes them towards natural.' The Bathwater Bliss soap will be available in a very limited run – only 5,000 bars will be produced, going on sale at noon EST on Friday, 6 June, while supplies last.

Robert De Niro shares his ultimate parenting tip

Robert De Niro will always "support" his children, even if he disagrees with their choices. The 81-year-old actor - who has Drena, 57, Raphael, 48, 29-year-old twins Julian and Airyn, Elliot, 27, and Helen Grace, 13, from previous relationships and two-year-old Gia with partner Tiffany Chen - believes the most important thing a parent can do for their kids is to always back their decisions. He told 'Entertainment Tonight': 'The main thing is to support your kids. As long as they're not hurting themselves, doing anything destructive or anything like that, you have to support them - period. 'Even if you don't go with it—you have to support them. And they have to know that you support them. Always.' The 'Goodfellas' star hailed his youngest child as "just pure joy". He added: 'She's two now. It's always wonderful." The 'Meet the Fockers' actor previously told of how he "somehow makes it work" when it comes to juggling his career with raising a toddler. He told E! News: "Yeah, she's great! She came on the 'Zero Day' set a few times, I shot that last year. You make it work, somehow. Sometimes I have her on the set with my girlfriend. I'm lucky, I have a camper." However, Robert admitted he doesn't change the youngster's diapers. Asked if he does, he recently told The Sunday Times magazine: "No, no, but I used to!" But the veteran actor enjoys spending early mornings with his little girl. He said: "I'm an early riser. I spend my mornings watching [YouTuber for toddlers] Ms. Rachel with her, and I give her her bottle." Robert "tries his best" to be a good dad and to meet his children' s different needs. He said: "Oh God, they would all have a different answer. Family is so complex. "I try my best, that's all. I hope they'll be happy." The 'Killers of the Flower Moon' star previously revealed that he loves it when his brood is all together and enjoys going on family vacations with them. He told People: 'The fact that they'd all be together is everything to me." Asked what his favourite thing to do with his children is, he replied: 'Just being together, taking trips to warm places."

How they pulled off that wild ‘Mission: Impossible' plane stunt

Of the many storied stunts that Tom Cruise has performed over eight Mission: Impossible movies – scaling the world's tallest building in Dubai, riding a motorcycle off a Norwegian cliff, retrieving a stolen ledger from an underwater centrifuge – it seems unlikely that one of the most shock-and-awe set pieces in the series' nearly 30-year history would involve two old-timey biplanes that look like they should have Snoopy at the controls. And yet many viewers have emerged from the latest instalment of the franchise, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, astonished by that scene: a 12½-minute sequence in which Cruise, as indefatigable special agent Ethan Hunt, hitches a ride on the undercarriage of a small brightly coloured aircraft, overtakes the pilot, then leaps onto another plane midair to fight the film's grinning villain (Esai Morales) – all while being bashed and batted by the elements like a human windsock.
