The Who guitarist Pete Townshend makes cryptic comment about 'the end' after iconic rock band announced their farewell tour
Legendary The Who guitarist Pete Townshend made a cryptic comment about 'the end' after the band announced their farewell tour. After almost 60 years of touring since they rose to prominence in the 1960s, The Who announced their final tour The Song Is Over will be going ahead this summer. The band will play 16 shows in the US - which they hope will be extended to Europe - as a 'thank you to fans' after all of their support. But speaking ahead of the beginning of the tour later this year, guitarist Pete, who just turned 80, hinted it may spell the end for the band entirely. Speaking to This Cultural Life on Radio 4 last week he said: 'Whether it's the end for The Who... it's certainly the end of touring America. We'll have to see (about Europe).' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new Showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop The rocker previously admitted that he is 'not crazy about touring', despite 'not feeling old'. 'I feel like a diamond with a flaw,' he added: 'I'm a dangerous f****. I was a proponent of rock and roll as a philosophy. 'But when I started exploring my inner darkness on stage, my stage persona – smashing guitars and turning it all up – I was very detached and I didn't enjoy doing it.' Pete's interview comes just weeks after he and lead singer Roger Daltrey sacked drummer Zak Stanley from the band for a second time. The son of Ringo Starr, 59, was fired from the band last week, just one month after he was sacked then quickly reinstated. Pete took to Instagram last week to announce that Zak, the Who's drummer since 1996, was no longer part of the band. But Zak quickly took to his own social media to claim that his departure was not a mutual decision and that he was fired from the band. In a second post, Pete and Roger Daltrey added: 'The Who are heading for retirement, whereas Zak is 20yrs younger and has a great future with his new band and other exciting projects. 'He needs to devote all his energy into making it all a success. We both wish him all the luck in the world. 'Scott Devours – Who fans will know him from Roger's solo shows – will be replacing Zak. We hope all our fans will welcome him. Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey'. Resharing The Who's post, Zak hit back: 'I was fired two weeks after reinstatement and asked to make a statement saying I had quit the who to pursue my other musical endevours this would be a lie. 'I love the who and would never had quit. So I didn't make the statement ….quitting The Who would also have let down the countless amazing people who stood up for me (thank you all a million times over and more) thru the weeks of mayhem of me going 'in an out an in an out an in an out like a bleedin squeezebox x. 'To clarify "other projects" yes I do have other projects and always have. The Who have been sporadic or minimalist in touring most years apart from a two extensive tours in 2000 and 2006/7.' Zak continued to list his other previous projects before adding: 'Releasing singles but not touring cos members are so busy. None of this has ever interfered with The Who and was never a problem for them. 'The lie is or would have been that I quit The Who- I didn't. I love the who and everyone in it.' But on Monday, Zak again took to his Instagram account to share that his version of events had been contradicted yet again after a phonecall with The Who singer-guitarist Roger. Zak said Roger told him he hadn't actually been fired and instead 'retired to work on his own projects'. He wrote: 'NOISE&CONFUSION!!!! I had a great phone chat with Roger at the end of last week which truly confused both of us!!! 'Rog said I hadn't been 'fired'…I had been 'retired' to work n my own projects. I explained to Rog that I have just spent nearly 8 weeks at my studio in Jamaica completing these projects, that my group Mantra Of The Cosmos was releasing one single at the beginning of June and after that had run its course ( usually 5/6 weeks ) I was completely available for the foreseeable future…. 'Rog said "Oh!" and we kind of left it there- On good terms and great friends as we have always been. 'Gotta love these guys. As my mum used to say "The mind boggles!!!" XXX.' It comes weeks after The Who shared the shock news that they will be retiring from touring after 60 years, following a final run of shows in the US later this year. The legendary rock band shared the news at a London press conference as they announced their farewell tour, which will kick off in July.

DOJ takes major action amid California high school sport controversy after trans athlete crushed female rivals
California 's transgender controversy escalated Wednesday when the US Department of Justice announced it would be launching an investigation into the state's high school sports. California was rocked by controversy this week when high school athlete AB Hernandez of Jurupa Valley, who is a biological male, qualified for three events at the state track and field championships. In the wake of responding outrage, the DOJ announced Wednesday that it would be ramping up an investigation into the state's high school sports amid fears of Title IX violations. The department said that by allowing transgender athletes to compete in girls' sport the state law could violate Title IX - a federal law that prohibits sex discrimination at educational institutions. The DOJ said it had sent legal notices to the state attorney general, state superintendent of public instruction and the California Interscholastic Federation. It also announced that it has joined the US Department of Education's investigation into the CIF and had directed the US attorney's office in Southern California to review the state's policies. 'Title IX exists to protect women and girls in education. It is perverse to allow males to compete against girls, invade their private spaces, and take their trophies,' said Harmeet K. Dhillon, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights. 'This Division will aggressively defend women's hard-fought rights to equal educational opportunities.' 'The law is clear: Discrimination on the basis of sex is illegal and immoral,' said United States Attorney Bill Essayli. 'My office and the rest of the Department of Justice will work tirelessly to protect girls' sports and stop anyone – public officials included – from violating women's civil rights.' The move comes just one day after Donald Trump intervened on the matter, threatening to yank federal funding to California unless the state prohibited Hernandez from competing. Trump blasted Gov. Gavin Newsom , who he called 'Newscum,' and called the results 'not fair and totally demeaning to women and girls.' 'Please be advised that large scale federal funding will be held back, maybe permanently,' Trump threatened on his Truth Social site. He added: 'I am ordering local authorities, if necessary, to not allow the transitioned person to compete in the State Finals. This is a totally ridiculous situation!!!' Hernandez cruised to a number of resounding long jump and triple jump wins over female opponents for their school at last weekend's California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section Masters Meet. The junior student's victories earned them qualification to the state championships, which will be held in the California city of Clovis from May 30-31. The latest example of a trans athlete competing in female sports comes after Trump's bill to ban that from happening fell into the senate earlier this month. Legislation that aimed to bar trans women and girls nationwide from participating in school athletic competitions designated for female athletes failed to advance in a divided Senate as Democrats stood united against an issue that Republicans leveraged in last year's elections. A test vote on the bill failed to gain the 60 votes needed to advance in the chamber as senators stuck to party lines in a 51-45 vote tally. The bill sought to determine Title IX protections 'based solely on a person´s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.' Hernandez was also in the headlines last weekend after a teenage girl they beat to first place at a track-and-field meet waited for her rival to get down from the top of the podium before posing up there herself. And as the controversy surrounding their participation continues, the trans athlete's mom has been confronted by angry parents whose daughters are losing out on gold medals as a result. In a video which has gone viral on TikTok, the mother in question is approached by another mom who questions why she is allowing her male-born child to compete in women's sports. 'What a coward of a woman you are allowing that,' she can be heard shouting. The parent is also heard saying: 'Your mental illness is on your son, coward.'

Young girl gets brutal reaction as she sings Disney tunes to passengers trapped on delayed flight
A young girl got a surprising response after trying to entertain passengers on a delayed flight by singing a popular Disney tune through the plane's intercom. During a 2-hour flight delay, the blond-haired little girl belted out How Far I'll Go from Disney's Moana to frustrated passengers - a gesture some critics online described as their 'worst nightmare.' 'This is actually my worst nightmare and personal hell,' one user commented on a trending clip of the girl belting on a Delta plane to Orlando, Florida. 'As a Moana loving mom, absolutely not,' commented another. Another questioned how the young girl even got the opportunity in the first place. 'How did it even get to this point. Who thought 'oh I know what everyone needs. A girl to sing Moana that'll calm everyone down,"' the confused viewer wrote. 'This would send me over the edge,' wrote another. The viral video of the Disney-inspired airplane performance has surpassed five million views on TikTok. If a two-hour delay wasn't frustrating enough for angered passengers, the plane also circled Orlando for another two hours before eventually arriving at its destination, according to the now viral video's caption. The young girl's in-flight theatrics come after a United Airlines crew member treated passengers to some live music as they disembarked the plane. The talented flier caused a massive divide on the web, with some slamming the violin strumming man for forcing people to listen to him. A traveler posted a video of the moment to Reddit, which showed the unnamed airline staffer playing his violin while passengers waited to disembark the aircraft The one-and-a-half-minute clip saw passengers sitting patiently in their seats on a United Airlines flight, while people further ahead of them in the cabin took their bags down from the overhead compartment. As they did so, the man waltzed up and down the plane's aisle playing his instrument. 'Fiddler and the friendly skies,' the happy passenger wrote alongside the video. 'Just landed in SFO and heard something as we awaited passengers to deplane... It was a definite pleasant surprise and welcome change compared to all the news we hear from airlines these days.' While person who posted the video loved the serenade, not everyone agreed. 'Yeah, this type of s**t would make me pretty upset on a flight… we're trapped in a steel tube, and this MF thinks everyone wants to hear his bullshit,' one Reddit user raged in a comment. 'What a sly move. He has everyone sitting, captivated by his music, while he slowly walks down the aisle with anyone in his way and exiting the plane first,' joked someone else. 'This would be annoying as hell. Can't imagine breaking out into song on any instrument on a flight,' declared another person. One user branded the entire scene as 'unsettling,' with another jokingly suggesting it was reminiscent of the Titanic. However, other people thought it was a sweet way to pass the time. 'Of course super mean people as usual telling him to sit down and shut up,' one wrote. They continued: 'My guess is he actually likes the passengers and is very friendly and kind. 'Not like he's making much with working at one of the lowest paying mainlines. Yet he has a good attitude despite it. How about you stfu? Good day.'
