S. Korean LPGA veteran Kim Hyo-joo defends European Tour title at home
Kim shot seven-under 209 at the 54-hole the Aramco Korea Championship at New Korea Country Club in Goyang, on the northwestern outskirts of Seoul, for a two-shot victory over Chiara Tamburlini of Switzerland. Kim earned $225,000 in the winner's check.
Kim, world No. 8, carded a three-under 69 in the final round to deny Tamburlini, who put up a 68, her fourth LET title.
Kim entered the final round alone at the top at four-under, one ahead of Lee-Anne Pace of South Africa. Kim stumbled a bit with a bogey at the par-3 fourth but responded with a birdie at the par-4 sixth.
After a birdie at the par-3 11th, Kim also made birdies on both of the two par-5 holes on the back nine, the 13th and the 17th.
Tamburlini, who won three LET tournaments in 2024, made her final round charge with five birdies on the front nine but had just one more birdie the rest of the way to settle for second place.
South Korean amateur Park Seo-jin finished in third place at four-under 212 after pouring in eight birdies en route to a 65 on Sunday.
Kim won last year's event in wire-to-wire fashion, as the LET made its South Korea debut.
This was Kim's third LET victory, with her first having come at the 2014 Evian Championship, an LPGA major co-sanctioned by the LET.

Son Heung-min to leave Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur's South Korean captain Son Heung-min said Saturday he has decided to leave his Premier League club this summer. Son made the announcement during a press conference in Seoul prior to Tottenham's preseason match against Newcastle United on Sunday. "This was not an easy decision, but I have decided to leave the club this summer," Son said, after taking a few moments to gather himself. "I will try my best to have a fun match tomorrow." With the start of the new Premier League season only a couple of weeks away, Son, entering the final year of his contract with Tottenham, had been subject to rampant transfer speculation. He has been linked to Los Angeles FC of Major League Soccer in the United States, with clubs in the Saudi Pro League also believed to be targeting the South Korean star. (Yonhap)

K League champions Ulsan HD part ways with head coach Kim Pan-gon
The three-time defending South Korean football champions Ulsan HD FC announced Friday they have terminated their contract with head coach Kim Pan-gon, barely a year after hiring him. Ulsan HD said the decision was reached through a mutual agreement between the club and the departing coach. Kim will coach his final match at 7 p.m. Saturday against Suwon FC at Munsu Football Stadium in Ulsan, some 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul. Ulsan HD brought in Kim on July 28 last year to replace Hong Myung-bo, who had left for the South Korean men's national team after coaching Ulsan HD to back-to-back K League 1 titles in 2022 and 2023. They were in their season-low fourth place when Kim was hired, but won eight of their first 11 matches under the new coach to claim their third consecutive title. Kim had played for Ulsan's championship squad in 1996, making him the first man to win the league title with Ulsan both as player and head coach. This year, Ulsan HD put together an early three-match winning streak, seemingly on their way to another title, before fading away badly. They are winless in their past six league matches, leaving them in seventh place among 12 clubs with 31 points -- 23 behind the league-leading Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors with 15 matches left. Kim had been under pressure to step down for weeks. When he coached Team K League in a friendly match against Newcastle United on Wednesday, some Ulsan HD fans chanted, "Kim Pan-gon, get out!" before the kickoff. Kim said after the match he hadn't heard the chants and said he would try to right the ship in August. Former South Korean national team head coach Shin Tae-yong is believed to be in line to succeed Kim, who claimed he'd found about his dismissal through a media report Thursday before the club had even contacted him. Also Friday, Ulsan HD CEO Kim Gwang-guk resigned after 10 years on the job.

KBO-leading Hanwha Eagles acquire all-time hits king Son Ah-seop
The best team in South Korean baseball this season acquired the league's all-time hits leader Thursday. The Hanwha Eagles said they traded for NC Dinos outfielder Son Ah-seop in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2026 Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) draft and 300 million won ($215,000) in cash. The deal came on the annual trade deadline. The Eagles entered Thursday's action leading the KBO with a win-loss-tie record of 58-37-3, poised for their first postseason trip since 2018. Son, 37, will be asked to strengthen the offense that ranks in the middle of the pack in runs, hits and on-base plus slugging (OPS). Son sits atop the career hits rankings with 2,583 after 2,134 games. He is a lifetime .320 hitter and is batting .300 this season in 76 games, along with 33 RBIs. Son enjoyed a streak of 14 consecutive seasons with at least 100 hits from 2010 to 2023, before the run ended in an injury-plagued 2024 season, when he finished with 95 hits in 84 games. Son had been with the Dinos since 2022, after spending the 14 previous seasons with the Lotte Giants. The Eagles noted that Son has a career postseason OPS of 1.008 and his big-game experience should help the club if they make the postseason. "He has been a consistent force throughout his career with his great work ethic and discipline," the Eagles said. "We expect him to serve as an exemplary role model for our young players." The Dinos are also in the postseason hunt. They ranked eighth at 44-45-5 but were only one game out of the fifth and final postseason spot prior to Thursday's games. Dinos general manager Lim Sun-nam said getting a draft pick in exchange for Son was "a strategic decision" to solidify the team's prospect base. "It was not an easy call to send away Son Ah-seop, who has been a key part of our team," Lim added. "But we wanted to ensure our competitiveness for the future, and this move will help lay foundation for our retooling and sustainable growth." (Yonhap)
