Diksha makes a solid start with 69, lies 17th in Scotland
Agency: Dundonald Links (Scotland), July 25 (PTI) Diksha Dagar rallied on the back nine with three birdies to compile a fine round of 3-under 69 on the first day of the 2025 ISPS HANDA Women's Scottish Open at Dundonald Links. Diksha was tied-17th and the best among the three Indians. Diksha, who has been having a great season in 2025, but is still looking for her first win, was three shots behind Charlotte Laffar, who fired an opening round of 66 (-6). The other two Indians in the field Pranavi Urs (75), who is coming back after a long injury lay-off and Tvesa Malik (77) were way behind. Pranavi was T-107 and Tvesa was T-126. Diksha, starting out on the front nine shot birdied the fourth but gave that shot back on the sixth. She fought back on the back nine with birdies on the 12th, 14th and the 16th for a 69. England's Laffar began her day with a bogey at the first before back-to-back birdies on three and four, she added a further birdie on the seventh to make the turn in two-under. Laffar found some momentum after the turn, rolling in four birdies in five holes between 10 and 14 before another dropped shot on 15. However, she bounced back, rolling in a 20-footer for birdie at the 17th hole to sit alone at the top of the leaderboard on six-under-par. The 32-year-old Laffar only returned to the Ladies European Tour (LET) in May at the Aramco Korea Championship after taking four years off to have her sons Freddie and Oscar. Five players are in a share of second place with Ireland's Leona Maguire, Japan's Rio Takeda, Spain's Nuria Iturrioz, England's Lottie Woad and Thailand's Arpichaya Yubol all on five-under-par. Ireland's Maguire had a bogey-free opening round of 67 (-5), which included an eagle hole-out on her first hole of the day. The 2025 KPMG Women's Irish Open champion Woad, who made her professional debut today, rolled in six birdies and only one bogey on day one in Scotland. Thailand's Yubol had a steady start with two bogeys and two birdies on her front nine before rolling in five birdies on her back nine for her round of 67 (-5). Kelsey Bennett leads on rollercoaster day for the Irish in Belgium
Australia's Kelsey Bennett topped the leaderboard on day one of the Hulencourt Women's Open, with an opening round of 67 (-5) in Belgium. Starting on the 10th tee, Bennett had a strong run of birdies, including multiple back-to-back streaks on both the front and back nine. Despite two bogeys and a double bogey, the 25-year-old still managed an impressive five-under-par round, thanks to a remarkable nine birdies over the opening 18 holes. Despite dropping shots on the 5th, 7th, and 14th, a total of seven birdies ensured she scored low on the first day. India's Avani Prashanth (18) and Germany's Helen Briem (19) sit in a tie for second place, after firing rounds of 68 (-4) for the first 18 holes. One shot back are four players on three-under par including Scotland's Kylie Henry, England's Cara Gainer, France's Nastasia Nadaud, and Wales' Lydia Hall. Anna Foster and Lauren Walsh are best of the Irish on +1. Foster was on course for an under-par round after three birdies on the back nine before a double-bogey on 18. Walsh was -2 at the turn but dropped three shots coming in. Sara Byrne is just inside the current cut mark on +2 but Canice Screene and Olivia Mehaffey (both +3) have work to do tomorrow. Chasing her first LET victory, Bennett has had a solid start of the season, recording three top-10 finishes - including a tie for eighth at both the Joburg Ladies Open and the Aramco Korea Championship, and an impressive T3 at the Investec SA Women's Open. "I'm pretty happy with today", she said. "I can't complain when you hole a few putts, so it's good. My caddie and I really spoke through a lot of the shots today, and it definitely pulled off." "You've got to get in the right position off the tee, especially with that wind. It got up a bit, so just making sure you judge the right distance, especially as there's a fair few run-offs on the sides of the greens."

S. Korean LPGA veteran Kim Hyo-joo defends European Tour title at home
South Korean LPGA star Kim Hyo-joo defended her Ladies European Tour (LET) title on home soil Sunday. Kim shot seven-under 209 at the 54-hole the Aramco Korea Championship at New Korea Country Club in Goyang, on the northwestern outskirts of Seoul, for a two-shot victory over Chiara Tamburlini of Switzerland. Kim earned $225,000 in the winner's check. Kim, world No. 8, carded a three-under 69 in the final round to deny Tamburlini, who put up a 68, her fourth LET title. Kim entered the final round alone at the top at four-under, one ahead of Lee-Anne Pace of South Africa. Kim stumbled a bit with a bogey at the par-3 fourth but responded with a birdie at the par-4 sixth. After a birdie at the par-3 11th, Kim also made birdies on both of the two par-5 holes on the back nine, the 13th and the 17th. Tamburlini, who won three LET tournaments in 2024, made her final round charge with five birdies on the front nine but had just one more birdie the rest of the way to settle for second place. South Korean amateur Park Seo-jin finished in third place at four-under 212 after pouring in eight birdies en route to a 65 on Sunday. Kim won last year's event in wire-to-wire fashion, as the LET made its South Korea debut. This was Kim's third LET victory, with her first having come at the 2014 Evian Championship, an LPGA major co-sanctioned by the LET.

Seamus Power struggles in windy conditions as he drops out of contention at Myrtle Beach
The West Waterford man (38) dropped four shots in his first eight holes in 20mph winds at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club and followed his opening 64 with a five-over 76 to slip from joint second to 57th on two-under. He made the cut on the mark but trails leaders Mackenzie Hughes of Canada - his playing partner for the first two days - and Chile's Cristobal del Solar by eight strokes. 'It was blowing significantly harder,' Hughes said after carding a 69 to Del Solar's 67 to share the lead on 10-under, one ahead of five players. 'I mean, yesterday there was virtually no wind, and then today hit some shots where I was playing, you know, 20 yards of help or 20 yards of hurt at times. So, versus playing virtually none yesterday. 'Yeah, again, I thought it was challenging. I'm sure some guys had their way with the course and played well. 'I know there were some good scores in the morning. I would love to know what the low in the afternoon was, but yeah, I thought it was challenging. 'I didn't quite have my stuff, but all in all, kind of pleased with how it ended up.' Power didn't hit a fairway until his seventh hole - the 16th - but by then, he'd hit it in the left trees at the 11th, the water right at the 13th and the left rough at the 14th to drop three shots. He dropped another shot after missing left on the short 17th, and while he birdied the 18th from four feet, he three-putted the fifth from 50 feet and dropped another shot at the eighth following another missed fairway. While he hit seven fairways in the end, he found just eight greens in regulation and didn't make a putt outside four feet. ADVERTISEMENT Learn more If not already eligible, the winner of the event, held as an Additional Event alongside the Truist Championship this week, will earn a spot in the PGA Championship. That's not the case for Hughes or Power, who will be in the field next week at Quail Hollow. Nick Watney (44), who hasn't won in 13 years, shot 67 to lie a shot off the lead alongside Danny Walker (67), Harry Higgs (66), Will Chandler (69) and Davis Shore (66). At the Aramco Korea Championship on the Ladies European Tour, Castlerock's Annabel Wilson goes into tomorrow's final round just four shots off the lead. She made five birdies in a two-under 70 to share 12th place behind Hyo Joo Kim on level par. Kim also shot 70 to lead by a shot from South Africa's Lee-Anne Pace on four-under. Lauren Walsh was 32nd on three over after a 72, with Anna Foster 48th on five over after a 74. In the Epson Tour's Carlisle Arizona Women's Golf Classic in Scottsdale, Sara Byrne is six shots off the lead in joint 27th with a round to play at TPC Scottsdale. She was three under for her second round with eight holes to play, but bogeyed the second (her 11th) and double bogeyed the par-five eighth to shoot a level par 71. Japan's Minori Nagano, Colombia's Valery Plata, and China's Liqi Zeng share the lead on eight-under.
