And now they are hoping to test Dortmund's resolve by swooping for Gittens.
But whether they are successful or not, Gittens will be in action at the Club World Cup.

England booed off as Kane (just about) spares blushes against world #173 Andorra
HARRY KANE SPARED woeful England's blushes as his second half strike sealed a lacklustre 1-0 win against minnows Andorra in Saturday's World Cup qualifier in Barcelona. Thomas Tuchel's side were booed off by England fans in the RCDE Stadium after failing to impress against a team ranked 173rd in the world. Kane's 72nd international goal ensured England avoided the ultimate embarrassment of failing to beat such lowly opposition. Tuchel is the first England manager to win his first three competitive games without conceding a goal. But given the paucity of opposition provided by Andorra, Latvia and Albania in the Group K qualifiers, that achievement rings a little hollow after this miserable display. England take the lead 🏴 ⚽ Harry Kane — Virgin Media Sport (@VMSportIE) June 7, 2025 Tuchel had warned that England's tired stars should not be expected to thrash Andorra after gruelling domestic seasons. The German cited the motivational difficulties posed by the summer international break, just before nine of his players jet off to the Club World Cup in the United States. His fears proved prescient as England laboured to establish any rhythm in a soporific match with the feel of a pre-season friendly. Advertisement It was a far cry from the pulsating drama produced by Spain and France in their recent Nations League semi-final, underlining the task facing Tuchel as he builds up to the 2026 World Cup. Tuchel didn't help England's cause by fielding an experimental side. Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones started at right-back and Chelsea right-back Reece James featured at left-back. With Declan Rice rested, Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson, 34, made his first England start since 2023, becoming the Three Lions' oldest player since Frank Lampard 11 years ago. Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka was left out after only completing one training session this week, leaving Noni Madueke, Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer to line up behind striker Harry Kane. Full Time in Barcelona Andorra 0-1 England 🇦🇩 🏴 — Virgin Media Sport (@VMSportIE) June 7, 2025 - Bereft of ideas - Chelsea winger Madueke impressed but Palmer and Rogers were underwhelming. Andorra hadn't scored an international goal for more than two years and they quickly settled into a defensive formation that allowed England to monopolise possession. As Tuchel had predicted, England didn't find it easy to prise open a massed Andorra defence featuring nine men behind the ball at all times. Madueke's drive from the edge of the area was pushed away by Andorra keeper Iker Alvarez. Kane should have broken the deadlock with a close-range chance from Jones' cut-back, but the England captain prodded wastefully wide. Biel Borra fired over from distance in a rare Andorran venture into the England half, which ranked as an improvement on a defeat without mustering a single shot against Albania in March. Given Tuchel's desire to see his player perform in the warm Catalan temperatures ahead of the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, it was instructive to see England struggle to find the energy and purpose required to make Andorra uncomfortable. They moved the ball too slowly, and were reduced them to hopeful efforts from distance, with Jude Bellingham's 25-yard shot comfortably saved by Alvarez. By the time Bellingham's header failed to beat Alvarez on the stroke of half-time, England looked bereft of ideas and the fans were beginning to grumble. Kane eased the mounting pressure when the Bayern Munich striker made the breakthrough five minutes after the interval. After Kane's initial shot was saved, Madueke alertly guided a low cross back into the six-yard box for the England captain to tap into the empty net. It was a modest way to reach a milestone for Kane, who has a remarkable 450 career goals for club and country in 697 games. England still couldn't find any momentum and were nearly punished in the closing stages when Guillaume Lopez's shot was blocked by Ezri Konsa. – © AFP 2025

Cheika to bow out as Leicester boss with Premiership final
MICHAEL CHEIKA'S REIGN as Leicester coach will end with an appearance in next week's Premiership final after two Adam Radwan tries helped seal a 21-16 win at home to Sale. The Tigers will now take on Bath in a Twickenham showpiece on 14 June in a final that sees the two fallen giants of the English game looking to recapture former glories. Leicester will be chasing a record-extending 12th league title against six-time champions Bath, bidding for a trophy treble after already winning the Premiership Rugby Cup and European Challenge Cup this season. Veteran coach Cheika signed a one-year deal with Leicester before the start of the current campaign but the 57-year-old Australian said in January that talks about his future had been pushed back following a humiliating 80-12 defeat by Toulouse in the European Champions Cup. And it was in January that Leicester confirmed the former Wallabies and Argentina coach would not be extending his stay at Welford Road. But he now has the chance to end his time with the Midlands side on a high after an ideal home send off for retiring club greats Dan Cole and Ben Youngs, as well as the departing Handre Pollard and Julian Montoya. Advertisement Radwan struck twice in the first half as Leicester surged into a 13-3 lead. Sale fought back to draw level before replacement Izaia Perese sprinted over to secure Leicester's place in the final against table-toppers Bath, who defeated southwest rivals Bristol 34-20 in Friday's first semi-final. Leicester opened Saturday's scoring Saturday in the 20th minute when Jack van Poortvliet's long pass found dashing right wing Radwan, who stepped inside three covering defenders before sprinting clear and scoring with an acrobatic dive. Eight minutes later, Radwan had his second try when the two-cap England back's speed and agility made amends for a rare over-hit by Springbok star Pollard for a fine score. Sale reduced their 10-point interval deficit thanks to a George Ford penalty before Pollard missed his third shot at goal in four attempts before landing his fifth. Rob du Preez's try and a long-range penalty from England veteran Ford helped Sale level the scores at 16-16 with 14 minutes left. But a powerful driving maul saw the ball released to Perese, whose clever running line and sheer speed swept him over Sale's try-line. Sale, with the Curry twins Tom and Ben impressing before leaving the field, pressed hard for another try but Leicester's defence held firm. – © AFP 2025

England jeered after limping to victory in Andorra
England were booed after limping to a lifeless 1-0 win against Andorra as Thomas Tuchel's first away match in charge ended in forgettable and frustrating fashion. On a sultry afternoon in Barcelona, Harry Kane's scrambled effort shortly after the interval was all that separated Thomas Tuchel's team of Premier League household names with the side sitting 173rd in the world rankings. As expected, England dominated possession but were short of the quality expected with only Chelsea winger Noni Madueke managing to impress in an instantly forgettable match. England secured the win, however, and sit comfortably top of Group K with three wins from three. "It wasn't a great performance and I don't think many people will remember this one," Kane, whose goal was the 450th of his career for club and country, told ITV Sport. "It was a dry pitch, similar to next year at the World Cup so we will go away and analyse it. We weren't good enough on the ball but we take the three points and move on." England are expected to be one of the favourites for next year's World Cup and while it is difficult to read too much in to a turgid display against a defence-minded Andorra, head coach Tuchel will know big improvements must be made. In six previous games against Andorra, England had scored 25 goals without reply. But even after they eventually went ahead on Saturday there was no sense the floodgates would open. If anything, Andorra actually created a couple of chances to heap real embarrassment on their visitors. England's build-up play was pedestrian throughout and only Madueke garnished his reputation. He tested Andorra keeper Iker Alvarez with one curling shot and set up a couple of other chances before halftime, one for Jude Bellingham who looked off the pace. Kane wasted England's best chance in the first half, shooting wide from close range after another dangerous ball across the area by Madueke. If anyone was going to break the stalemate it was likely to be Kane and he finally did so in the 50th minute, stabbing a shot high into the net after his initial effort was saved and Madueke turned the rebound back across goal.
