Civil Defence Launches Nationwide Summer Safety Campaigns to Protect Lives and Property
As part of its ongoing commitment to public safety, the General Directorate of Civil Defence has launched a series of nationwide awareness campaigns and targeted programmes aimed at promoting a culture of safety during the high-risk summer months.
Brigadier Ali Mohammed Al Kubaisi, Director-General of Civil Defence, announced that the initiative forms a core element of the Directorate's strategic plan to prevent and mitigate incidents linked to extreme heat and the improper use of energy sources. He confirmed that over 65 locations across all governorates of the Kingdom of Bahrain will be covered as part of this year's campaign.
Highlighting the importance of public cooperation, Brig. Al Kubaisi stressed the need to follow safety regulations to protect both lives and property. He noted that, in the past three years, the Directorate has conducted 265 awareness campaigns targeting key risk-prone areas. These include home safety, worker accommodations, fuel stations, factories, warehouses, workshops, and even specific seasonal focuses such as pilgrim safety and safety practices during the Ashura season.
Additional initiatives have been rolled out to address safety in places of worship, commercial warehouses, parking areas, and swimming pools. The Directorate has also implemented self-protection programmes for shop workers and educational campaigns in partnership with local institutions.
With summer temperatures on the rise, Brig. Al Kubaisi warned of the increased risk of fires caused by the overuse or poor maintenance of electrical appliances. He urged the public to conduct regular maintenance checks, inspect wiring and plugs, replace damaged components, and ensure that appliances meet national safety standards. Proper ventilation, particularly for air conditioners, and routine cleaning of filters and fans were also emphasised to reduce the risk of overheating.
The Director-General reaffirmed the Directorate's dedication to raising public awareness through community partnerships involving both government and private sector entities. Al-Sahli emphasised that sustainability is not limited to environmental protection, but also encompasses civic values and public responsibility. Awareness and action The municipality had earlier conducted coordination meetings with representatives of mourning centres and civic partners to launch the campaign. Awareness drives encouraged residents to participate in waste sorting, reduce plastic use, and maintain the cleanliness of religious sites. 'This year, the campaign elevated sustainability beyond just waste management. It became a message about conscious citizenship,' Al-Sahli said. Council Chairman Eng. Saleh Tarada highlighted the strength of community partnerships as a pillar of municipal work, calling the cooperation between the municipality and funeral organisers a model for future initiatives. The Capital Municipality credited the success of this year's Ashura observance to the collective efforts of residents, volunteers, and partner agencies.

The management of Manaeesh Jubran announced that it will continue taking food orders for majlis gatherings and Husseini mourning rituals on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. These services extend its outreach that began at the start of the Ashura season and reflect a commitment to serve during a time of deep cultural and spiritual reflection. Branches Mobilised Teams at the Jannusan and Ras Rumman branches have been working at full capacity to meet the surge in demand. Both branches have reported a rapid pace of operations throughout the week, with logistical teams mobilised to ensure timely readiness for scheduled deliveries. Mr. Hussein Shabib, Deputy Manager of the Jannusan branch, said the public's response has been overwhelming. He announced that its indoor dining halls will remain closed on the 9th and 10th of Muharram, with operations focused solely on food preparation and deliveries to mourning venues. Orders are being coordinated directly with customers, who have been advised to call 17323217 to book slots or confirm requirements for majlis and funeral arrangements. Spirit of Service The 9th and 10th of Muharram are among the most solemn dates in Bahrain's religious calendar. During Muharram, many Bahraini families organise free food distributions known as mawakib, serving thousands of mourners daily at gatherings and processions. Families often organise or support free food drives in honour of Imam Hussein's martyrdom, reinforcing traditions of selflessness and solidarity. Manaeesh Jubran's decision to dedicate its kitchens to the occasion positions the restaurant not just as a business, but as a cultural and community partner. 'We are proud of the high turnout, which reflects the spirit of giving and generosity within the community during this season,' he said. 'We appreciate customers' trust and understanding of the operational conditions associated with the peak period. We continue to work to enhance the level of service and avoid any unintended delays.'

TDT| Manama Bahrain's Jaafari Endowments has launched an upgraded Ashura public transport project offering free bus services across six major routes to Manama - now including early trial access and dedicated support for people with disabilities.
