Elden Ring Nightreign passes 2 million sales on its first day, despite a "Mixed" Steam rating and some of FromSoftware's lowest critic scores in years
Elden Ring Nightreign might not have received the same barrage of glowing review scores like Elden Ring did before it, but that's not stopped it from flying off the shelves. In fact, less than 24 hours after launch, FromSoftware's new co-op romp has already sold two million copies.
This was announced over on the official Elden Ring Twitter account, where it proclaims: "Darkness fell over Limveld, and two million Nightfarers rose up against it. Thank you for your support."
Although the post focuses on the number of players rather than copies sold, since Nightreign isn't on any subscription services like Xbox Game Pass or PlayStation Plus, you can be sure that every one of those loyal Nightfarers is someone who's actually paid for the game.
On one hand, this isn't hard to believe. It's a new FromSoftware title, after all, and a spin-off to a phenomenal game that's sold over 30 million copies. But on the other hand, the situation around this one is a bit different. It's a co-op-focused release – one that specifically wants players to set out in groups of three, with pairs not allowed – which, as reflected by the many posts from duos looking for a third player to round out their team, is already proving to be a bit of an issue.
And its reviews haven't exactly been without their criticism, either. When it debuted on Metacritic with an average critic score of 78, it was already FromSoftware's lowest-scored game in seven years, and it's since dropped another point to 77 (at least for its more frequently rated PS5 version).
Nightreign's Steam reviews aren't looking so great, either. The "Mostly Positive" rating it launched with has dropped further throughout the day, and it now has a "Mixed" average score with 65% positive ratings. At least it's bringing in a lot of players, though, with a concurrent player peak of 313,593 hit almost right out of the gate.
Clearly, though, none of those things have proven problematic enough to halt its day-one sales. This is just the start for Nightreign – it already has another new patch on the way next week, which promises to improve the experience for any solo players.

It's not just the internet to fear, either, and a Bark phone, unlike some of the best camera phones out there, can alert parents to any potential risks of bullying or self-harm detected via social media monitoring, and can prevent children from being groomed via messaging apps. I think this is excellent, and allows parents the opportunity to get hands-on in parenting their kids when it comes to tech, instead of relying on the internet to safeguard their children for them (which can be near-impossible as things slip through content filters). The Samsung A16 was released only last year, and the Bark Phone Pro model is a Samsung A36. Both are solid handsets with suitable performance, especially for kids, offering durable quality without any of the pricey flagship design qualities. A recent study found that three in four UK parents are concerned about what their children are seeing on their phones, yet, there's already a petition calling for the repeal of the UK Online Safety Act. It's impossible to keep everyone happy. By using Bark products - there's a phone, watch, app, and internet filter package - Parents can take matters into their own hands and rest easy knowing their child is protected from the internet.

In this survival shooter, you join an elite team of hardened marines as they fight through hordes of xenomorphs from the Alien franchise. You can customize your character and gear as you take on the ever-evolving threat and try to stop it from spreading. 9 Kings (game preview) Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers can play on Aug. 14. This game takes kingdom builders, deck builders and roguelikes and smashes them together to make something new. You'll build your kingdom from a humble village to a huge citadel, but you'll also have to defend your realm from other rulers. You can use knights, warlocks, sentient mushrooms and more in huge battles to fend off others. And you can loot your enemy's deck to grow your empire and become the King of Kings. These games are leaving Game Pass on Aug. 15 While Microsoft is adding those games to Game Pass soon, the company is also removing a few others from the service on Aug. 15. So you still have some time to finish any campaigns or sidequests before you have to buy these games separately. Why The King Of The Hill Revival Is Explicitly Not Trying To Make You Feel Nostalgic

King of the Hill is finally making its big return on the 2025 TV schedule, and I think fans who fire up their Hulu subscription on Monday will quickly be met with one inevitable truth about the new episodes. A lot has changed in Arlen over the decades, and it's not just the viewers who will struggle to cope with that. Hank and Peggy have been overseas for quite some time, and will spend some time playing catch-up with the new Texas and all the changes happening within their friend group. It's certainly not a return that will invoke nostalgia, but as Toby Huss and Mike Judge said when I spoke to the them and the cast at San Diego Comic-Con, that's by design. America as a whole has changed in the decade and a half since King of the Hill left television, and Huss mentioned a comparison creator Judge made about how viewers should see this series: The thing you [Mike] mentioned earlier about it being like Andy Griffith is back and he's pissed off. I think the thing about the show is that it really not nostalgic. Their coming back is not nostalgic, and it doesn't feel like it's a nostalgic thing, like, 'Let's look at the old fun people we had fun with.' It's nothing like that. It's a whole other iteration of their lives,just a few years later. It's charming in its own way, and it's safe and it's inviting because it's, you know, meeting these old people, old friends again, but it never felt nostalgic. Things have changed for every character in King of the Hill, as CinemaBlend wrote about when we pointed out key details in posters and other footage we've seen. Arlen is not the same place it was when Hank and Peggy left, and it takes both a while to find their footing. Fortunately, Mike Judge said that exact premise is what really got the ideas rolling in the King of the Hill writers' room. The creator told me that once they landed on the idea of Hank taking a contract to live on an American base in Saudi Arabia for several years, it began to make sense why they felt like fishes out of water when returning to Texas: Once we got the idea that they've been out of the country for 10 or so years and they're coming back, that felt right. A lot of ideas came out of that because then you get to have Hank be annoyed by all these new things, and also that they were in this Aramco base where they have this kind of fake idyllic American city for Americans. Living on an American base abroad has, as one might guess, made Hank and Peggy a bit out of touch as to how much America has changed in their absence. Not to worry though, as the entire alley gang and Bobby have been there, and are ready to fill them in as I've witnessed across the episodes I received ahead of the premiere. More On King Of The Hill King Of The Hill Struggled To Figure Out What To Do About Bobby's Voice In The Revival The good news is that while the series is not nostalgic in tone, it certainly feels like classic King of the Hill. Despite the tragic deaths of past actors (including the more recent losses of Dale actor Johnny Hardwick and John Redcorn actor Jonathan Joss), the series hasn't lost a step in finding ways to give new adventures on par with some of the greatest episodes of the show's past. I saw the entire series ahead of its arrival, and as a longtime King of the Hill fan, I can confidently say I want a lot more episodes. I particularly like the decision to age up characters like Bobby, Joseph and Connie, as it presents a fresh new storyline that not only is interesting, but incredibly relevant to the lives of young adults today. Readers will get to see for themselves when they watch King of the Hill's return on Hulu on Monday, August 4th. I'm excited to see the world's response to the show returning, and I'm hoping it's big enough that a Season 2 renewal is just around the corner. Solve the daily Crossword
