Edinburgh isn't short of brunch spots, and while there are excellent options across the city - not all of them boast incredible views.
The capital's latest spot, Cafe Calton, has opened up on Calton Hill. Offering something for 'every moment of the day', from brunch to cocktail hour, guests can also enjoy views from Arthur's Seat to the Firth of Forth.
On opening weekend, we made our way up the hill to check it out. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't on our side.
While we're absolutely sure the views from Cafe Calton are incredible, the city was enduring a foggy day on our visit - but there was plenty to make up for it. We started with an limoncello spritz and a vanilla matcha latte (different vibes - both equally delicious).
The breakfast menu is served from 8.30am until 12pm, and includes options like raspberry and matcha chia pudding, salmon eggs benedict, a full Scottish, or a morning salad. A trip to Cafe Calton is a bit on the pricier end, though the experience on the whole justifies it.
We opted for the salmon eggs benedict and a full Scottish breakfast (£16 and £15). Both we're perfect, the breakfast even coming with their own homemade brown sauce.

There were little touches throughout that made it an elevated brunch, and if the fog had lifted (no fault of the restaurant) it might have been the perfect morning. If you had the whole day to play with, you could spend hours at Cafe Calton - with their outside tables a nice spot to really soak in the views.
Next time you're looking to impress family, or maybe a birthday brunch, head up the hill - though booking is recommended for obvious reasons.
Speaking about the opening, Stefano Pieraccini, Managing Director of The Rocca Group, said: We sought to create a unique location that combines Edinburgh's past and contemporary, where the vistas are complemented by the ambiance, service, and cuisine. Whether you're joining us after a stroll or meeting friends for brunch, lunch or evening bites, we want you to feel like you're part of something very special".
Speaking about the opening, Sorcha Carey, Director of Collective said: "We're delighted to welcome Cafe Calton to Collective. The response so far has been fantastic – there's a real sense of energy and excitement on the hill. It's a vibrant new addition for our visitors and the wider community."
