NEW DELHI: After
Xiaomi
and RealMe, another top Chinese electronics maker
OnePlus
has decided to outsource production of its audio and internet-of-things (IoT) products to a local Indian contract manufacturer.
The announcement comes as India pushes production of hi-tech electronics products in the country, amid US tariff war with China.
Optiemus Electronics will make the products at its factory in Noida, which aligns with plan of OnePlus to localise production in the country. For Optiemus, this is the third such deal after it inked similar partnerships with other Chinese players Xiaomi and RealMe earlier.
"The strategic partnership aligns with long-term vision of OnePlus for India and the recent Project Starlight commitment to strengthen localisation efforts in the region.
OnePlus is extending efforts towards expanding its local manufacturing capabilities and has now decided to start making its IoT portfolio of products in the Noida-based facility, in addition to its existing smartphones range being made in India," the Chinese company said.
Ashok Gupta, chairman of Optiemus Group, said the collaboration marks a significant step in expanding its electronics manufacturing footprint.

"We specialise in transforming ideas into reality and this partnership empowers us to manufacture high-quality IoT products. Together, we will continue to explore new frontiers and remain committed to playing a pivotal role in shaping the future of electronics manufacturing in India," Gupta said.
Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus India, said the partnership with Optiemus reflects the company's commitment to Project Starlight.
"This collaboration is not just about technology - it's about empowering local communities, creating meaningful innovation, and bringing smarter, more connected experiences to our India community."
OnePlus' key IoT offerings include TWS products and wireless neckbands. In April this year, Chinese RealMe also partnered with Optiemus to manufacture its next-generation AIoT (Artificial Intelligence of Things) products in India, which include earphones, smartwatches, and tablets. The deal saw Optiemus and RealMe manufacture five million AIoT devices annually, while generating over 2,000 new employment opportunities in the country.
Xiaomi had also signed sourcing agreement with Optiemus earlier.

ED freezes ₹110 crore linked to illegal betting platform Parimatch

MUMBAI: The Mumbai unit of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has frozen ₹110 crore lying in mule bank accounts in connection with a money-laundering probe into Cyprus-based illegal betting platform Parimatch. The action followed coordinated searches at 17 locations across the country on Tuesday, including Mumbai, Surat, Delhi, Noida, Kanpur, Madurai and Hyderabad. ED freezes ₹ 110 crore linked to illegal betting platform Parimatch The platform, owned by a Ukrainian national abroad, allegedly amassed nearly ₹3,000 crore from Indian users in 2023-24 alone, luring them with promises of high returns before defrauding them, ED officials said on Thursday. According to investigators, the frozen funds—proceeds of crime—were parked in multiple mule accounts used to layer and divert money to various recipients. Searches also led to the seizure of incriminating documents, digital devices and 1,200 credit cards linked to mule accounts. Complex laundering network The ED's probe, based on a complaint by the cyber police station in Mumbai, has uncovered a multi-layered laundering operation. In south India, user deposits were allegedly funnelled into mule accounts and withdrawn in cash in parts of Tamil Nadu, before being handed to hawala operators. These operators then recharged virtual wallets of a UK-based firm, which were used to buy USDT cryptocurrency in mule accounts run by Parimatch agents. In western India, Parimatch allegedly used Domestic Money Transfer agents to collect betting funds in mule accounts and channel them back through credit card transactions. Investigators have also flagged payment companies whose Payment Aggregator licence applications were rejected by the Reserve Bank of India. These firms allegedly provided backend services to Parimatch disguised as Technology Service Providers (TSPs), offering Application Programming Interface (API) access to integrate mule accounts—often opened in the names of e-commerce and payment service firms—into the platform. The funds were then 'masked' as e-commerce refunds, vendor payments and other routine expenses to obscure their origin and movement, officials said. Aggressive promotion in India To attract customers, Parimatch invested heavily in marketing, sponsoring sports tournaments and tying up with celebrities. Indian-registered entities—'Parimatch Sports' and 'Parimatch News'—were allegedly used for surrogate advertising, funded through foreign remittances. A city - based businessman, who is the complainant in the Mumbai police's case, alleged that he had lost around ₹12.22 crore at the accused illegal platform and its allied applications due to their 'non adherence to fairplay'. The businessman claimed he got attracted to the accused gaming platform's claims related to high returns, sometime in 2021, after noticing its advertisements and celebrity endorsements for it on a social media platform. 'All of us who have lost any money on the accused platform should be compensated,' the complainant told HT.

Vizhinjam port to introduce new mooring system for safer and faster ship docking

T hiruvananthapuram: Vizhinjam port is set to introduce a dynamic mooring system known as shore tension system to prevent ships from being caught in surges and sway while docked. A port official stated that the machinery would arrive from the Netherlands in a few days and would be deployed within a month. "The company that brings and installs the machinery will train staff here to handle it," the official said. The system will automatically adjust the tension of the mooring lines used to tie ships to the berth, counteracting the pressure from waves and surges. It also reduces stress on the mooring lines connected to the ships. Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), whose ships predominantly use the port, had recommended the system. This will mark the first installation of such a facility in an Indian port. The shore tension system will also aid in speeding up the loading and unloading of containers and reduce the turnaround time of ships. "As unloading of containers is carried out in a semi-automated manner, the stability of the ships is important," the official added. The port will also be able to accommodate more ships as they can be berthed closer than usual and unloading operations need not be delayed during rough seas or strong winds. The introduction of the modern technology will also facilitate faster movement of containers when exim operations (international trade) commence by the end of the year. Sources said that initially the shore tension system would be trialled for the exim operations. Currently, ships are tied manually using heavy ropes to the mooring points in the berth. The machine-assisted system will maintain the ropes' integrity and prevent snapping under pressure, ensuring safety. As of last month, the port has handled over 392 ships, including 23 ultra-large container vessels and has handled 8.36 lakh containers. ED action on Reliance official, influencer part of ramped-up probe into Rs 20,000-crore loan scam

The searches on Angarai Sethuraman, a key official of the Anil Ambani group, and the arrest of Chandigarh-based influencer Sandeepa Virk come at a time when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is switching to the second phase of its probe into what they now describe as a Rs 20,000 crore loan scam, The Indian Express has learnt. The agency has alleged that Sethuraman and Virk were together trying to 'influence' their probe into the Anil Ambani group in relation to the alleged scam. The ED had, in a statement Wednesday, alleged that Sethuraman had 'siphoned off' Rs 18 crore in loan he took from Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd (RCFL) and that he had been in contact with Virk for 'illegal liaising work'. Sethuraman, Group President (Corporate Affairs), Reliance Group, told The Indian Express that his residence was searched for over 30 hours the past two days and that the allegations were 'baseless'. He emphasised: 'I did meet Sandeepa Virk twice this month but that was for different reasons and at public places. It had nothing to do with the ED's probe. As far as the Rs 18 crore loan from RCFL is concerned, it was for building the house in Delhi where I now live. It is a fully secured loan and has been part paid back by me. It has not been siphoned off.' Sethuraman is also director of six companies, including Thales Reliance Defence Systems Ltd. Days after questioning Anil Ambani at the ED headquarters in New Delhi on August 5, top officials said the 'very complex' nature of transactions involved would take months to analyse. Following scrutiny of the alleged loan scam documents, the officials said, they will turn their attention to the defence companies and offshore entities set up by the Group Chairman. The sleuths pointed out that they have found the 'loan exposure'' of two Reliance companies — RCFL and Reliance Home Finance Limited (RHFL) — to be allegedly too high. A key official said, 'Prima facie, it appears that the loan amounts taken from the 39 lenders (banks and financial institutions) were routed to Reliance Infrastructure and Reliance Power, and that is how these companies were made debt free. But this was done via a complex money trail and through layers and layers of transactions.' Also under investigation is the reason why none of the 39 lenders, except for Yes Bank, filed police complaints against the Anil Ambani company. During his questioning, Anil Ambani is understood to have allegedly clarified that important decisions on loans given by RCFL and RFHL were taken by his employees and members of the credit committees of the two companies. It is learnt that he was then allegedly confronted with internal company decisions that may have been taken by senior officials but were signed off by him as chairman. The agency was now planning to call members of the credit committees for questioning and put Anil Ambani through another round of questioning. The Indian Express sent a set of questions on the allegations of a Rs 20,000 crore loan scam to the Anil Ambani group's corporate office but received only Sethuraman's statement released to the media Wednesday. In that statement, Sethuraman had denied any connection or involvement with Virk or any transactions related to her, and that the home loan he took was granted following due process. Virk, meanwhile, was arrested on August 12 under the provisions of PMLA, 2002 and produced before a court which granted custody to ED till August 14 for further investigation. According to the agency, Virk and her associates are alleged to have 'exerted undue influence through misrepresentation and defrauded individuals by soliciting money under false pretences'. 'Probe conducted by the ED has revealed that Virk has acquired immovable property in her name by making false promises and cheating,' the ED spokesperson alleged in a statement. The agency also said that Virk claimed to 'the owner of a website purportedly selling FDA-approved beauty products'. However, the ED claimed, the 'products listed on the site have been found to be non-existent' and that 'the website serves as a front for laundering funds'. It claimed that Virk was 'in regular touch with' Sethuraman 'with whom she had been communicating regarding illegal liaising work'. In Punjab, Virk has been linked to an FIR filed at the Phase-8 police station in Mohali in November 2016 against a man identified as Amit Gupta, alias Nageshwar Gupta, accusing him of fraud amounting to Rs 6 crore committed under the pretext of investment in a film production company. Following the FIR, based on a complaint from Chandigarh resident Jasneet Kaur, Gupta was arrested in 2017 and a charge sheet was filed against him. During trial, he was declared a Proclaimed Offender under Section 299 CrPC on October 21, 2024. According to police records, Virk's name was mentioned in the initial complaint as an associate of Gupta but she was not listed as an accused in the case. The Mohali police is now ascertaining the status of court proceedings in the original FIR following the ED's action against Virk. – With ENS, New Delhi
