Lions hooker Sheehan banned over Lynagh incident

British and Irish Lions hooker Dan Sheehan has been suspended for four matches for flattening Wallabies playmaker Tom Lynagh in Saturday's third and final Test, World Rugby announced on Monday. The 26-year-old Irishman -- who captained the side for part of the 22-12 defeat after Maro Itoje suffered a head injury -- had argued his action did not merit a citing nor was it foul play. However, an independent panel disagreed, imposing the ban, although he will miss only three games if he successfully completes a coaching intervention. "The sanction has been accepted by the player," read the judgement. "In determining foul play, the Committee found that Sheehan's actions were reckless. "The Committee found that he made head contact with the Australian player, that his action amounted to a high degree of danger and that no mitigation applied." Sheehan charged into the breakdown during the first half of the clash in Sydney, appearing to elbow Lynagh in the head. It was missed by the referee and television match official (TMO), despite Lynagh leaving the field for a head injury assessment which he failed. Sheehan will miss his province Leinster's pre-season match against Cardiff and two United Rugby Championship games with South African sides the Sharks and Stormers.

'I think he is a top man': Orlando Pirates coach on new signing

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou believes new signing Abdoulaye Mariko has a lot of qualities but still needs to improve. The 23-year-old midfielder was introduced in the second half during Pirates' match against Polokwane City. Despite only featuring for less than 20 minutes, Bucs faithful were impressed with the Malian striker. 'Mariko is a very interesting young player. He was the top goal-scorer in Mali, and he took the best player and top scorer award. He come to a new environment in a big club,' Ouaddou said. 'He has a lot of quality, as you have seen today (Saturday). But we still have to improve him and bring him to the highest level. It's not easy when you are coming to a new country, with a new culture. He has to integrate himself into the team and learn the language,' he added. The Orlando Pirates coach admitted that there was a lot of expectation for the midfielder. 'The expectation for him is like all the other players, to give his best for Orlando Pirates, because there is a lot of expectations inside the country and the continent, and he knows that. I think he is a top man, good personality, and he is a good player,' Ouaddou said. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Kaizer Chiefs new striker: Two main targets revealed

Kaizer Chiefs are in the market for a new striker in a bid to answer their goal-scoring woes. Kaizer Chiefs have struggled in front of goal for several seasons. So, Amakhosi's technical team is actively hunting for a new striker. Let's take a look at their latest targets. Chiefs have identified two main striker targets – Etiosa Ighodaro and Dzenan Zajmovi. Initially, Ighodaro was reportedly spotted in training with Amakhosi. However, he is now training alone due to his current contract situation with Mamelodi Sundowns. 'He is training on his own. It's believed that his head is affected by the interest from Kaizer Chiefs and that he still has a running contract with Sundowns, so he is at a crossroads right now. But because he wants to remain fit, he is training on his own for now,' the insider stated on SNL . Meanwhile, Chippa United striker Zajmovic is the other player on Amakhosi's radar. 'I think if he's on a free, it's a good gamble for me. Whether he will start it will depend on his match fitness and how he is able to gel and I think the coach is the only one who can answer. Zajmovic at Galaxy showed a lot of goal-scoring prowess, he's good in the air, good on the feet, good decision-making. If they can get him as soon as possible and (Tashreeq) Morris and other guys, put them on loan, you can't have a heavy strike force,' he added. 'Chiefs haven't given up on him. They are still working behind the scenes to try and get him for this season. They have a chance of registering him as a local player if they can sign him as he is waiting for his Permanent Residence Permit papers as well. So Chiefs are looking at all those possibilities to sign him,' the second source told the Siya crew. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211.
