Supercars great Scott McLaughlin crashes out of Indy 500 in warm-up lap
The Pennzoil Chevy driver was weaving on the approach to Turn 1 when the car spun from beneath him.
McLaughlin collided with the inside wall and wrecked the car, causing significant damage to the left front suspension.
Disgusted with himself, the former Supercars champion banged angrily on the steering wheel before climbing from his car
After extricating himself from the car, the distraught driver knelt on the ground with his head in his hands before being taken to the trackside medical centre, where he was cleared of any injury.
'I really have no idea what happened,' said New Zealand-born McLaughlin.
'I'm just really upset for my team. They built me a fantastic car again. I'm really sorry to my sponsors, my fans, my family. I don't know what happened.
'I'm still… I can't believe we're out of the race. I just had so much hope today. Yeah, it's by far, the worst moment of my life.
'I know it's probably dramatic and whatever, but I put so much into this race, everyone does, and I didn't even get to see the green flag.'
Moments after McLaughlin crashed, compatriot Scott Dixon's car began to smoke with a rear brake fire. However, he was able to continue without much issue.
The race eventually started but was quickly brought under control of the safety car when Marco Andretti got rear-ended by Jack Harvey into Turn 1.
Meyer Shank Racing's Marcus Armstrong narrowly avoided collecting the Andretti Global car, escaping serious damage despite what appeared to be light contact.
The yellow flew on Lap 18 after a dusting of rain. At the time, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing's Takuma Sato led McLaren's Pato O'Ward and Meyer Shank Racing standout Felix Rosenqvist.
Pole position winner Robert Shwartzman fell to fourth after a frantic start to the race, punctuated by Sato and O'Ward trading places.

'My name is Sha'Carri Richardson … I don't have anything on me. Can you please take these off? I am not a criminal. I had an argument with my boyfriend,' she said. Surveillance footage shows Richardson shoved Coleman multiple times, even once shoving him into a wall as he continued to walk away. Richardson has since apologised for the ugly incident. 'I apologise to Christian. He came into my life & gave me more than a relationship but a greater understanding of unconditional love from what I've experienced in the past,' she wrote. 'Due to my past trauma & pain, I was blind & blocked off to not only receive it but give it. 'I love him & to him I can't apologise enough. 'My apology should be just as loud as my actions honestly louder. 'To Christian I love you & I am so sorry.' Richardson, a two-time medallist in the Olympics with one gold and one silver, said she is actively seeking help on the matter.

‘Awful scenes' as three Dragons knocked out against the Warriors

Bodybuilding champion dead at 37 in ‘unexpected' tragedy
Bodybuilding champion Hayley McNeff died on the weekend, with the news confirmed on Wednesday (Thursday AEST). She was 37, as the New York Post reports. According to an obituary published on the death of the young American was 'unexpected but peaceful.' She had boundless energy and was very determined to achieve whatever she set out to do,' Hayley's dad, Dave, told People in a statement. 'She set her sights on bodybuilding and fitness and achieved the highest success that sector offered. She loved us and we love Hayley very much, we miss her madly.' McNeff's family is set to hold a service on Sunday and has asked for attendees to make a donation to the National Alliance on Mental Illness in McNeff's honour. Per the obituary, McNeff graduated from Concord-Carlisle High School and University of Massachusetts Amherst, and was an accomplished bodybuilder in the 2000s with state titles in Maryland and Delaware. She was also part of the 2005 documentary 'Raising the Bar', which highlights the world of the sport. 'The quest for getting huge will never end,' McNeff said about her career in the documentary. 'There's no limit. I hope there's a day that I'll be able to look in the mirror 100 per cent of the time and be like 'yeah man, I'm huge'.' After retirement from the sport, McNeff decided to pursue a graduate degree in psychology. 'She had a gift for making those around her laugh and feel welcomed,' the obituary reads. 'Her energy and determination was a constant in her life and she always accomplished what she set out to achieve. 'She treasured her friendships and nurtured strong, lasting relationships with those who knew her best. Hayley will be deeply missed by her parents, siblings, extended family and friends.' Upon hearing the news of McNeff's death, bodybuilding coach Dave Palumbo posted a tribute message on Instagram. 'I'm sad to hear of the passing of former woman bodybuilder @hayleysmash (HAYLEY MCNEFF) … she left us way too soon,' he wrote. 'She was a good soul, super intelligent and had tremendous potential as a bodybuilder. She appeared in @dave_pulcinella RAISING THE BAR videos back in the day and I was proud to be able to call her a friend. 'Prayers to her family and friends. R.I.P.' McNeff is one of many bodybuilders who have recently passed away. Zunila Hoyos Mendez died at 43 in June after she was killed in a hammer attack. A month prior, Gui Bull died at 30.
